Furry News Network - Fri 8 Nov 2013 - 07:56
Author: Dear Papabear, First of all, I’d like to say thanks for creating such a great avenue for people to ask questions. To be quite honest, I’m not really sure if I’m a furry myself. Ever since I was little, I’ve gotten aroused at the site of people being transformed into animals or anthropomorphic animals […]

Dust: An Elysian Tail Heads to GoG

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 19:57

Given that you are a viewer of this site, you probably are interested in both gaming and the furry fandom. With that in mind, it's fairly safe to assume that you've at least heard of Dust: An Elysian Tail. Originally released on the 360, Dean Dodrill's first release has been making waves. In order to allow more people to play it, the game was eventually ported to the PC and has been available on Steam for quite some time.

But let's say that you have an vehement anti-DRM stance and don't want to support Steam as a result. Well, you're in luck. It has recently been announced that Dust: An Elysian Tail is now on GoG. GoG has a hardline stance against all forms of DRM. All that you need to do is purchase a game and download it from their servers. Those who act now will receive it at 50% off it's $14.99 price point.

I must say that this is a very well-made game. Mr. Dodrill also went to great lengths to ensure that the PC port is solid. As a furry gamer, you owe it to yourself to check this out if you haven't already. There aren't any more excuses.

New to the Fandom!

Furry Reddit - Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 18:38

Hi! I'm Christian, but i go by Kit (Don't say Chris or else), and I'm 17. I'm from a suburb area near Portland. I've been looking at anthro art for a bit now, not really creating accounts or fursonas, but by god was I interested. It seemed kind of weird, and still does, but I thought it was the right time. It's been interesting me for quite a bit so decided to come to /r/furry to come out.

First things first, my fursona. I don't really know anyone, nor have I really talked to anyone furry so far. I see you guys do a lot of great art, and I've been lurking for a bit! I'm not into super anime stuff, but i do like art kind of this style:(http://i.imgur.com/HBHuy8p.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/B3hMhco.png) (http://i.imgur.com/vMeWkJ5.jpg). but I can't draw for shit. If anybody would be kind enough to do a quick sketch for me, that'd be great!

Here's my basic idea for my fursona: German Shepherd- about 6 feet tall- average build, not super muscular, not string bean!- tan and black (obviously)-Hazel eyes - wearing a green zip up hoodie, moccasins, and gray jeans- a bit scruffy/fluffy around the head - no human hair-

If anybody could help me out with tips or anything as to furry ediquette, i would appreciate it! Ninja edit: fixed links to ideas

John Lewis Christmas advertisement

Fursday - Watch List - Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 18:29

British retail department store John Lewis has developed a reputation in the last few years for incredibly emotional tear jerking advertisements around the holiday season.

This year they've got the British furry fandom going all starry eyed.

The animation of the hare in particular is reminiscent of Watership Down.

Click here to continue the story http://bit.ly/1c4u55G Watch the new John Lewis Christmas TV advert and see Hare give his best friend Bear a Christmas he'll never forget. Set in a beautiful forest, poor Bear is the only animal that never gets to celebrate Christmas because he has to hibernate every year.

Just what does a fox say anyway?

Fursday - Reading List - Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 18:04

if you ever wanted to give an intelligent answer to the meme, this article provides all the answers, plus some facts you may never had considered before.

I will also leave you with the conclusion which asks a more pressing question, why don't we know what the fox says?

That's what sound the fox makes! But equally interesting is why most people don't know what sound the fox makes. It's a widespread, enormously successful and adaptive species, living worldwide, in all sorts of climates, in forests, on mountains, in suburbs and sometimes even cities. Americans and Europeans are very familiar with the red fox. And unlike, say, a raccoon, it's a highly vocal animal. So how come we have no idea what it sounds like?[...]

Foxes are common and cute, they feature in myths and we have gone to extreme lengths to make them our pets, but the noises they make are sort of...awful. The red fox does not have a mellifluous voice; even when it's happy, it mostly sounds like it's being strangled. It would be awkward to teach your young child that the cow goes moo, the frog goes croak, and the fox goes YAAGGAGHHGHHHHHHAHHHH!!!!!

About fursuit snark blogs

Fursday - Reading List - Thu 7 Nov 2013 - 04:44

A fortnight ago the team behind Fuck Yeah Fursuiting were asked about their opinions on 'fursuit snark' blogs.

My favourite response come from Growly:

Once in a while a suit will pop up that will make me giggle… I chuckle and move on, I think it’s tacky to leave rude comments in the open and I really try not to. I admit I’ve struggled with this and have occasionally let my opinions loose. It’s too easy to forget these costumes were made by real people who tried really really hard and put their heart into their work. While I think some costumes are pretty funny looking, it’s still really cool that they made something from nothing with their own two hands. Making Things is pretty much my reason for living, so it is cool to see other people discovering that love too. I wanna be a better, nicer person and find something good about everybody’s work :)

I like Growly's take because it goes beyond the usual victimisation responses you might read on an FA journal, instead opting to takes a balanced and reasoned approach. Instead of moaning Growly writes with reasons and balance, explaining why cheap snarks are detrimental to the learning development of fursuit makers and risk discouraging the future Mixed Candies from emerging.

I think fursuit critique blogs have their right to exist and can be enjoyable or informative. I wouldn't be afraid to add one to the link directory. Just that too often the tone is less about being a critique and instead being snarky (especially tumblr ones) and frankly they think too highly of themselves and aren't as funny as they believe they are.
