<!-- SC_OFF --><div class="md"><p>Before I start I&#39;m sorry if this is jumbled. I have not slept and might be leaving work early because I&#39;m so tired. I just want to write this out while it&#39;s still relatively new in my mind.</p> <hr/> <p>I&#39;ve been part of setting up three queer proms (back when they weren&#39;t accepted), helped plan my local gay pride (a yearly event), and have run two different youth groups in the past, one of them for 10 years. This only means I have experience setting <em>some</em> things up, working on panels, managing groups, and following through. I have never started from scratch.</p> <p>I&#39;m playing with the idea of putting together a furry convention in the Northern California valley between Sacramento and Roseville. This is hypothetical <em>if</em> I can put together a board and <em>if</em> I can afford part of or an entire venue by then (if it&#39;s small I <em>believe</em> I can put aside about 5k, but life throws curveballs so who knows).</p> <p>I&#39;m doing research but I was looking for personal experience as well. </p> <p>Obviously nothing is set in stone so if it&#39;s not doable then it&#39;s not doable and no harm is done. That being said I believe my area has potential. The monthly meet up I go to has about 30 people already and there is only one (non camping related) con in my state that I know of, so this <em>may</em> be a good place to start a <em>small</em> one. I even know of a good venue.</p> <p>Please keep in mind nothing is for sure. This is an idea in the most infantile stage possible. I&#39;m also aware that it&#39;s not exactly easy peasy to set something like this up. It can be stressful and time consuming. </p> <p>I am looking for advice and opinions, even if they are meant to dissuade me. I am researching liability insurance and vendor licencing as of now.</p> </div><!-- SC_ON --> submitted by
