Like Rocket Raccoon? Want to get into the comics? Here's where to start!
I don't know about you guys, but as soon as I saw Guardians of the Galaxy in theaters, I wanted to know more about the team - and especially Rocket! But most of the advice out there has you buying $300+ worth of comics to get all manner of back story, and most of it doesn't even include Rocket.
I've pieced together which issues to read to get the most Rocket for your buck. Now I'm sharing it with all of you.
The links below go to the digital versions of the comics. If you have a local comic book store, I think it would be great if you supported that local business by getting the paper versions from them. Otherwise, I've linked to Comixology, who runs Marvel's online store. You can buy individual issues, or trades / collections (generally 5-8 issues in one book), or bundle deals. Check pricing to see what the best deal is.
The best way to save money is with Marvel Unlimited. For $10/month, or $70/year, you get access to pretty much everything Marvel makes that's more than 6 months old. So you won't get the 2014 Rocket Raccoon series listed below, but they should have everything else. There's $87 worth of comics listed below, so it's a deal. The only caveat is the mobile app is really bad. Not unusable, but a bit frustrating.
Finally, there are (as with anything else digital) a torrent of other ways to obtain these comics. If you want to send a message to Marvel that we want more Rocket, please obtain them legitimately.
Now on with the reading list!
Single Issues: Rocket Raccoon
These are self contained, single-issue stories about Rocket. Two are being given away for free. You can read these independent of anything else.
- FREE! FCBD: Rocket Raccoon
- FREE! Guardians of the Galaxy Infinite #2
- Guardians of the Galaxy: Galaxy's Most Wanted #1
Rocket Raccoon and Groot Ultimate Collection
Chronologically, this is where to start. This contains a bunch of different comics, including Groot's first appearance in Tales to Astonish from 1959, and Rocket's cameo in an Incredible Hulk issue in 1968. There's also his first dedicated Rocket Raccoon comic run from 1985, and his appearances in Annihilators (which takes place after the 2008 GotG above).
Stop reading this when you get to Annihilators, if you plan on reading the 2008 GotG run. Pick it back up afterwards.
Annihilation: Conquest (Optional)
These two story lines add some very useful back story for the Guardians. You'll have a better idea of what's happening at the start of the 2008 GotG run if you read these first, but they aren't essential for understanding the story. Rocket is in both of the series below.
Besides these two, there is also a prologue issue, and character series for Quasar and Wraith which you can read before the plain A:C, if you want.
- Annihilation: Conquest - Star Lord - 4 issues
- Annihilation: Conquest - 6 issues
Guardians of the Galaxy 2008
This series is generally regarded as the best Guardians run. It's written by Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning who are a well-respected team (though unfortunately they've just split up).
After reading this, go back to the Ultimate Collection and read the Annihilators stories.
Annihilators and Annihilators: Earthfall
If you're going to read these, just buy the Rocket and Groot Ultimate Collection. These will cost you about $16, the Ultimate Collection includes way more stuff and costs $15.
Rocket Raccoon (2014)
This series just started. If you like Rocket in the movie, you'll probably like this comic. Currently on issue #2, next one is due beginning of September.
You can probably save money by waiting for a trade, but I wouldn't expect a trade to come out for another 4-5 months.

Reddit exclusive!
I promised I'd do requests as soon as I'd get my laptop fixed new laptop (not paying 600$ for laptop life support, nice try Staples). Turns out it takes longer than expected to deliver so fukkit...
Might as well try traditional in the meantime.
Boredom-inspired enthusiasm! :D
I promise to do at least 4 (No first come first serve, literally Hitler), but consider this thread dead in 2 weeks. When I receive my computer I'll upload scans instead of pictures if not already done and start a digital request thread unless uni is actually time consuming.

No funny business unless it's funny.

Will not do refs (grab your lunch money and commission a real artist bro, cuz these are hard as rock-hard tits to do) and pls have low expectations so I can make you happier more easily.

Review: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ is in the top five TMNT movies
Pups and Petrol
Author Tonton Jim appeared on the scene recently with a new series of books called Hound’s Glenn. The titular neighborhood is a place where families of dogs and wolves live and work — evidently, families of other species live in other neighborhoods — and the stories feature the daily adventures of a group of young canines growing up. Aimed at young readers and adults alike, each book features watercolor illustrations by the artist E. Felix Lyon. The first book, Max and the Lowrider Car, introduces us to Max. He’s a fifth-grader wolf cub with a simple-sounding assignment from school: Find something amazing in town to write about. He finds it in the local auto customizing shop, and soon Max and his friends (and family) are off on an adventure seeking old boring cars to bring back to shiny new life. The book is available on Amazon now, published by Dayton. The second book in the series, Harold and the Hot Rod, is coming soon. Hmm, are we sensing a theme here?

So I finished the prologue to my story. Feedback is welcome!!
((Also, I know there's elements in their are a bit cliche, but it's somewhat a generic fantasy story with a little twist. It kind of has a video game vibe to it in a way as well. XD))
