Conifur hotel deadline extended!

Your rating: None Average: 5 (1 vote)

The Conifur convention hotel has been gracious enough to extend the deadline to reserve a room for the convention at the discounted rate of only $99 (that's less than half the regular price!). They've extended the deadline one week to Sept. 11. If you thought you had missed your chance, there is still a little more time. Don't delay!

Also, the Dealer's Den pre-reg coordinator has asked me to assure people that there are still some tables available. Also, some people who have reserved their table haven't yet paid for it. If you've reserved a table, you must pay for it by the pre-registration deadline (Sept. 12), or you may lose it. You can register and/or pay on-line at the dealer's page.

Phoenix Phurmeet 2005

Your rating: None Average: 5 (1 vote)

Ok, this isn't exactly an official announcement, but more a plea for help. The short form is that we'll be starting a mini-con April 2005 with the exact days to be determined in the future, but we need some help and advice.

1) What events should we offer, keeping in mind that this is a first year and small con?
2) What do you expect to see at a con(artists alley, art show, dealer room, lounge, etc)?
3) Where should we hold it(ie hotel event space or the likely cheaper VFW Hall or similar)?

Aside from that, any advice, suggestions, volunteering and ideas are welcome and can be sent to phurmeet@furworld.org(if it bounces, wait twelve hours and resend, since I just set it up).

Whitewolf, Author sues Sony over Underworld

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Cinescape has a report on WhiteWolf and horror novelist Nancy A. Collins suing Sony. They're upset over 60 similarities in WhiteWolf's games and Collins' short story. Isn't the concept of vampires and werewolves common, and isn't Romeo and Juliet copied enough?

And You Thought Navy Dolphins Were Bad?

Fifteen people were injured and eight killed in the town of Chita, Columbia when a bomb strapped to a horse exploded.

The "horse bomb" went off in a crowded market area, and is believed to be the work of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), who have used donkeys and horses in past attacks.

Furries on TV

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Like ER a couple of years ago, another popular TV series appears to be planning on using furries in an upcoming episode. CSI is planning an episode involving a murder victim found in a racoon suit who turns out to be 'part of a group of people called "Furries" who dress up for sexual pleasure.'

In addition, it appears that a southern California furry fan by the name of Dark Fox is advising on the script.
