A great guest from afar joins us for an otherwise small crew this week to discuss various shenanigans. A good round of emails as well! Really it was. I mean it’s not like I’m writing this episode description while currently half asleep on a computer at work pulling subjective terms to describe how it went out of my ass or anything… No seriously though the guest was pretty good, we got to have a nice short interview with our friend Mishka from the first article and uh yeah, emails were good too. Looking for input on a fursuit decision.
(Note: I know this MAY be more apt for /r/fursuit, but the community here seems extremely helpful and active. Hope this post isn't an issue)
Hi all,
So I've basically been kicking around the possibility of buying a fursuit for a while now. I was hoping that I could get a bit of advice from the community here over whether that's actually a sound decision, though, basically due to the time investment of production as well as the cost.
Basically my particular situation is like this: I don't consider myself a furry per se (though I'm also not hostile or something), but have been aware of the community for quite a while. The art has never really been of interest to me, but I've been fascinated with costumes (mascots and character performance in particular) for some time. I spent my four years of college as my university's mascot, and it was everything I'd expected as far as the fun of performing and entertaining people, and now feel that having a fursuit (especially meaning a suit would actually fit me) would give me a chance to continue that now that I'm out of school.
On the other hand, though, I'm concerned about the fact that, since I'm not really involved in the scene, don't have a FA account or a fursona in the traditional sense, etc., I would not be able to find outlets or places to make use of my suit.
As far as makers, I love the aesthetic of DHC's suits (especially their foxes, which is what I'm leaning towards), but am also considering Mischief Makers, among others. Money is not a significantly limiting factor but can't truly be ignored.
So basically my questions are these:
-Is it probably unusual/not worthwhile for someone basically not involved in the community to just go out and get a fursuit?
-Does anyone here have experience with DHC and their timescale/price range/ease of working with?
-Are there any other pieces of advice/things to know you guys could give as far as a fursuit as an investment for something of an outsider?
