What do you think is the biggest downside with the fandom?

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 17:50

What's the worst thing about furry? I'm just curious, wanting to see people's opinions.

Beginner art trades

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 14:16

Hi all! I've been doing some drawing over the last few months, trying to get better (though I still have a ways to go), and one of the most enjoyable things I've done in that time was an art trade. I've been wondering if anyone else would like to do one? Like I said, I'm not too skilled, but any and all skill levels for a trade are welcome :)

Vegas furs (and others if interested) I am trying to sell my head base.

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 13:54

Aloha! So I was trying to make a fur suit, and I'll be honest. I screwed up a bit, but if anyone thinks they can resurrect this I'm offering it up for $80. If you are not in Vegas, you will have to pay shipping. No bullshit: Some of the duct tape is hot glued on. I can remove the fur currently on. The balaclava underneath is slightly torn The eyes are in permanently, unless you can figure out a way to get them out. If anyone is interested, please pm me.

Review: ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ is a bit literal

Furry News Network - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 11:38
Author: crossaffliction What is it with cartoon dinosaur movies and migrating? Ever since The Land Before Time1 featured a group of dinosaurs migrating through a barren wasteland, animated prehistoric animals have been moving en-mass just ahead of some sort of astronomical, geological or climactic cataclysm – all three at once, if they’re unlucky – that […]

To Nova...

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 11:04

It's Josh, my skype is acting a fool and I have no idea how to get a hold of you outside of there. Please upvote for visibility, I know he browses this sub and I had a really good conversation with him last night.

Edit: It should be obvious his name isn't really Nova, and while I have no problem giving out my real name, I doubt he wants me to give out his. But I'd like to thank you guys who have upvoted this so far and for the funny people in the comments.

New furry fanzines turn to online distribution

Furry News Network - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 08:38
Author: GreenReaper The cost of printing and distribution combined with minimal or non-existent sales always made fanzines a marginal proposition. But the format, if not the medium, is still popular with those seeking to try their paws at publishing. Tag by Felix Greypaw and Hashiko Whitepaw offers an example of what you can do in […]

Zoo animals and their discontent

Fursday - Reading List - Thu 17 Jul 2014 - 06:09

Alex Halberstadt writing for the New York Times:

The notion that animals think and feel may be rampant among pet owners, but it makes all kinds of scientific types uncomfortable. “If you ask my colleagues whether animals have emotions and thoughts,” says Philip Low, a prominent computational neuroscientist, “many will drop their voices to a whisper or simply change the subject. They don’t want to touch it.” Jaak Panksepp, a professor at Washington State University, has studied the emotional responses of rats. “Once, not very long ago,” he said, “you couldn’t even talk about these things with colleagues.”That may be changing. A profusion of recent studies has shown animals to be far closer to us than we previously believed — it turns out that common shore crabs feel and remember pain, zebra finches experience REM sleep, fruit-fly brothers cooperate, dolphins and elephants recognize themselves in mirrors, chimpanzees assist one another without expecting favors in return and dogs really do feel elation in their owners’ presence. In the summer of 2012, an unprecedented document, masterminded by Low — “The Cambridge Declaration on Consciousness in Human and Nonhuman Animals” — was signed by a group of leading animal researchers in the presence of Stephen Hawking. It asserted that mammals, birds and other creatures like octopuses possess consciousness and, in all likelihood, emotions and self-awareness.
