Favorite uncommon mythical creature?

Furry Reddit - Tue 3 Mar 2015 - 18:32

No dragons, werewolves, or unicorns here folks, we see plenty of those.

How about those lesser known cryptids out there, like selkies and kelpies, garuda and naga, worlds of em to look through.

Im personally extremely fond of yatagarasu, the three legged sun crows of eastern mythology. But damn if hindu doesn't have some crazy creatures in its stories.

This was a story I worked on for a forum writing contest. I've decided to share it here as well (I might also post it on Furaffinity soon). Please don't steal. Edit: since some people asked, I will post the site my original entry was from. But before I do, if you plan on taking part in voting for story entries, do so fairly; don't just vote for mine because I posted it here! The story was from here).

It happened so suddenly. There was news of a plague coming from one of the eastern European countries. Maybe it was an old Soviet experiment that finally got loose. Regardless, humanity learned about it too late. The incubation period was almost a month long and consisted of very mild flu-like symptoms. After that, things began to happen. Your teeth and hair fall out first, this takes several days. While that happens your bones begin to change shape, your face elongates and your feet go digitigrade. Hair starts growing all over your body, thicker than normal hair, or what used to be normal. Claws erupt out of your fingers and carnivorous teeth burst out of your gums. Finally, after months of agony, it ends. And where a human patient once was, there is now a monster. I know all this because I am a victim of this disease, as are nine out of every ten other humans. My days no longer feel normal. The physical agony is gone, but the knowledge that I will never go back will haunt me until the day of my death. The face I see in the mirror is not mine.

Don't mean to be frank guys, but...

Furry Reddit - Tue 3 Mar 2015 - 11:29

I know people are excited to get drawing furry, but while /r/furry is a place where you can post practically anything (don't get me wrong, post to your heart's content), keep in mind /r/furryartschool is more specific for first drawings and things you're insecure about. It's often overlooked and it shouldn't be. You'll always get some kind of critique, and it's guaranteed to be constructive. You're not gonna get much karma, and I think this is what turns a lot of people off. Don't worry about karma when you're first learning to draw/write/do furry things, critique from artists and non-artists alike can be more useful than all the karma on reddit. Still, if you're in it for the praise and "reddit money", I suggest posting in /r/furryartschool to test the water before you come here.

Plus the mods work really hard to keep FAschool awake and fresh.
