Furry First Nations

Furry Reddit - Wed 27 May 2015 - 16:41

I thought that some of you might appreciate some traditional stories! Keep in mind there are as many variations on these myths as there are lakes in Canada. It isn't like we have a Bible of this stuff or anything. Almost all of these stories were made before any tribes had written language, so keep that it mind if you've heard a story differently. Edit: Also, if you know a different version or a story not listed here please share!

Coyote: We have a couple stones here that are a Coyote and his son who turned to stone while ogling women swimming/bathing in a river. One of the coyote's primary motivations is to behave badly to be an example to humans of how not to act. The quintessential bad boy.

Raven/Crow: There is a story that Raven used to be the most beautiful creature on earth, but the earth was dark. The raven, upset that it's fabulous rainbow feathers went unappreciated, flew into the sky to seek the sun. In his searching, he pecked holes in the sky which are the stars we see today. Eventually, he found the sun and stole a piece of it in his beak to bring back to earth. When he got back, the piece of sun had burned away his beautiful colors leaving him black. If you look at its feathers in the right light, you can still see remnants of the rainbow in it.

Thunderbird: A creator. When He blinks, storms come, and his wings cause thunder. Whenever there is a storm, bad spirits are driven to high mountains to escape it. He's a generally a pretty chill guy, but has occasional outbursts as you'll see in the duck story.

Beaver: The beaver was a giant that lived in it's lodge on a lake. Master craftsman, whose spears were renowned. One day his magic spears were stolen, and he was mocked when he said he'd made them. So he killed the chief with a spear, and dug tunnels under the village so that their homes would be swallowed up by the earth. Those who survived the attack became members of the Beaver clan. Beaver over reacted a bit.

The Heron/Crane: The Crane could turn into a man at will. One day, it saw a woman and turned into a man to sit with her. She offered him food, but he turned back into a crane, cracked her head open with his beak and ate her brains. The chief heard about this, trapped the crane and burned it alive. Crane is an psycho.

Wolf: One of the more tame stories. Basically, wolf came by a stranger's home and was really sick. They checked him out, and found a bone in his throat. They took it out, became BFFs and that was that. The people were in a famine at the time, so the wolf turned into a man and brought them to where he'd killed a bunch of stuff to share.

Otter: It was believed that all women had, or ought to have, the otter spirit. If a man somehow obtained one, it would be very dangerous and he would seek out a medicine women who would take it from him via a kiss.

Ducks: There was a big party, with fabulous spoons for eating with. The man of the party, a mallard to be married, was asked to entertain the guests. So he told an embarrassing story about the Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was there, heard what was said and wasn't pleased so he kicked the groom into the fire where his chest was burned. The other attending ducks, taking advantage of the commotion, stole the fabulous spoons mentioned above and made them into their beaks. Ducks are shifty and will steal your cutlery.

Not new to furry, but new to here... and very nervous. Introductions, though!

Furry Reddit - Wed 27 May 2015 - 15:36

Well, first off I'm gonna say that I'm only posting this because a number of people from here, including a friend of mine, encouraged me to (you know who you are). Generally speaking, I'm a bit nervous to post on sites at first, especially stuff like this where the posts don't vanish a few minutes later. Dunno why.

ANYWAY. I'm Kirona, and I'm a genderless dragon/gryphon hybrid (dragryph) who generally takes a feral form, roughly the size of a housecat. I can change size though, or use an anthro form that's ~8 feet tall... but really, it's easier to snuggle about everywhere if I'm little x3

Past that, uhm... I like to draw and write, though I've not had any chance to do either in a while. I game a lot to relax, aaaand I'm a rather nervous person lately but I'm working on that .-.;

I'm mostly active over on deviantART, especially their chatrooms, but I can also be found on FurAffinity and a few other sites as well. I'm not entirely sure how active I'll be here, but assuming I don't panic too hard, I may be able to pop up here and there :3

... Despite being an artist and everything, I also don't have a proper ref sheet x.-.x Best I can do is this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8158017/

Furry monsters of the world, what's your favorite?

Furry Reddit - Wed 27 May 2015 - 13:25

Resident monster here, looking for some monsters of the world. I love me monsters and cryptids. Tailypo, nekomata, loch ness monster, things that would be easily turned into furry characters. Yknow the kind

What are some of your favorite monster myths/cryptids that are more animal than human?

I may or may not have my sketchbook in front of me.

Ensnared Vol 1

Furry Reddit - Wed 27 May 2015 - 11:20

welcome to the first edition of ensnared, your apocryphal, misleading and entirely false news round up, covering the weekly events that happend this week on our little corner of reddit. first our disclaimer:

warning: nothing in this post is true. it is full of half remembered events and blatant lies. we apologise if anything in this turns out to be any way correct.

And now, our thought of the day: "you never hear from those who have left /r/furry. this is because they are all dead. do not attempt to escape. post at least one repetitive discussion and one mildly amusing picture of a cat every month, or else."

That was cheerful. now for the weather:

  • Monday: Dank

  • Tuesday: Cyan

  • Wednesday: cats and dogs

  • Thursday: cancelled, due to staffing problems.

  • Friday: Fursuits

  • Saturday: Cloudy, with a chance of meatballs

  • Sunday: who cares?

And now, my erstwhile readers, we come onto the news section.

Perhaps the most startling event over the past week is the assimilation joining of FurryThrowawayaccoun, better known as the scruffy of R/furry. this acquisition sparked a great crusade across the Internets, led by the Glorious Temple of Wololo. we asked one of the main figures of the temple, Ringgar, to attend an interview with us. unfortunately he did not appear, leaving us guessing as to the motives: is it just happiness? an excess of caffeine? or is it a plot by the furluminati to take over the world a harmless and inconsequential action that should be forgotten about.

incidentally, we have been sent 100 letters in the mail today. each one contains the following words written in blood:

dear Amon. do not attempt to contact us again. this is your final warning.

these letters seem to be written on small pieces of white or grey fur. one of these has a blue circle on it. we do not know what this could mean. the colour of the envelopes is persimmon, if that helps.

Recently it seems there has been an abundance of lock screens and wallpapers posted. this publication would like to remind you that your phones, computers and other devices should not be locked, in case you forget the password. if you do need to create a password for something, why not email it to us at amonbotolf@outlook.com , where we can email you the details if you forget them.

in fact, why not give us your bank details, house keys and phone number as well. we provide this service free of charge (although for premium membership, we require either your Firstborn child, a kidney or your soul.)

a few days ago, the ever helpful tinhoneybadger, one of this subreddit's masterminds moderators, released all of the flares used by the users of this damn place. unfortunately they were mistaken for fireworks by passing ships, so most of us drowned.

a study by one of our reporters found that:

  • introinduction made 1/3

  • that guy with the red beret made 2/5

  • the dragon whose name begins with s made 1/4

  • And 1/2 were made by their users. (which is why they are terrible)

its apparent that this reporter is bad at maths.

Finally we leave you with our existential question of the day: Why?

yours journalistically, Amon Blotolf
