/r/furry and AMAgeddon.

Furry Reddit - Fri 3 Jul 2015 - 02:57

You probably know about the whole IAMA/Victoria thing going on right now. If you're not and you want to be caught up, read this. The tl;dr version is that an admin essential to /r/IAmA had been fired for unknown reasons and now a good number of subreddits are going dark/private in protest.

We've gotten a few modmail asking if /r/furry is going to be joining in on the protest and going dark as well. We are not. Why? Because one, it seems like many of the users here would prefer that we did not participate, seeing as how we aren't really involved with what's going on between /r/IAmA and the reddit administration. We also don't know why she was fired in the first place. And two, the point of the subs going private was to bring awareness to what had happened. There's really no point in us going private anymore now that pretty much everyone knows about it.

That being said, if you would like to help support the protest, you can do so by not purchasing reddit gold anymore or by just using adblock.

Edit: In case you looking for the weekly art prompt.

So... sergals. Are they like... aliens?

Furry Reddit - Fri 3 Jul 2015 - 00:43

I read they're from some non-earth planet. So, would they very considered aliens?

Bonus question: is there anything I should know about sergals? Customs, fur patterns, name style, etcetera?

Southpaws - Thu 2 Jul 2015 - 23:48
We're back with lots to talk about after a monumental week for all of us here on the show. We've got gay marriage- now just 'marriage', Oklacon news, Maltese Furcon's demise, shilling for audiobooks and new Furplanet stuff at Anthrocon in a week, and news on a GoFundMe to help out a fur who got royally messed up in a freak accident in Taiwan. And we even got some emails! It's a good week here on KnotCast. GoFundMe for Alex Haas http://www.gofundme.com/y2qpd5s Got some spare $? Love the show? Support us on Patreon! Just $4 a month helps keep us going. www.patreon.com/knotcast Episode 285 - Oklahomos

Don't go dark!

Furry Reddit - Thu 2 Jul 2015 - 23:43

Guys, we don't want or need to set the sub to private! This entire thing is a protest against admin and mod communication, along with practically every ama for the next few days being dropped because no one is handling them anymore. We are not affected by it at all! We are already pretty much a private community with little to no communication to anyone outside this sub.

That being, support the protest by not buying gold and respecting that the front page will be empty in the morning. If anything, block new submissions as a sign of support, but we don't need to go fully private at all. Even blocking submissions is ridiculous in my opinion.

It's not the end of reddit, it'll blow over soon enough and hopefully the site as a whole will improve for it.

Edit: Context

TL;DR/too lazy to click: reddit fired the only person on staff that organized and ran AMA's without any warning at all and without having a replacement ready or plan for the next week of AMA's across multiple subs. Reddit users are PISSED because it's a slap in the face to the community. Subreddits involved are going private to make a point, and other large subs are going down as well to join the protest. We aren't affected at all, and I see no reason to go 100% dark.
