Speak the Sergal Language

Furry Reddit - Sun 11 Oct 2015 - 13:37

Hello everyone! I don't use this often, but I figured I'd try and reach out to whoever's interested for input and help. I'm a polyglot srgl, and I've studied linguistics for many years, and regardless of how hard I search for it, all I can't find an actual sergal language (asides from Japanese or a faux language). So, because I couldn't find such an important part of culture for sergals, I've been on and off designing a language/languages for Vilous as a hobby

So far, this is what I have:

-An alphabet of 18 characters (subject to change). I've been keeping in mind the limitations of speech because of the structure of the mouth and the slender tongue.

-A writing style similar to old Mongolian (top down) that can be written with either a reed pen-esq device, or a brush.

-4 forms of punctuation (again, subject to change).

-Ideas for syntax, grammar, and lexicon, though nothing seriously in practice.

If anyone has any ideas or help, please don't be shy to shout something out. I have plans to add things such as dialects, linguistic evolution (from pictographs and ideographs), styles of writing, and more. But all in due time. Images of the design so far

Why did you choose your username, fursona name, et cetera?

For me, I have no idea. I literally just came up with it on the spot. Possibly a corruption of katsu?

Furry Alphabet?

Furry Reddit - Sun 11 Oct 2015 - 02:18

I was laying in bed this morning and I had one of my 'laying around ideas'. It went a little like this; "Hmmm, I wonder if there is a furry alphabet." Spends the next ten minuets searching various sub-reddits for various things and comes up with nothing "I wonder if we could make one"

Because of my lack in creativity I wondered if other people had any ideas of what each letter in the furry alphabet would stand for.

For Example: F - Furry

I am looking forward to see if we can get a whole alphabet :D

(I apologise if there already is one)

Finally Free!

Furry Reddit - Sun 11 Oct 2015 - 00:28

I know this likely does not belong here, but I just want to share with you guys the great news.

For years, I've felt very miserable and downright depressed at home. I always felt unsupported by my parents and always pressured to perform and act in the way they wanted without consideration of what I wanted or felt. There were times where I had mental breakdowns and felt like choosing to "end" it all, because of a feeling that I was going to be forever trapped in a life filled with misery and gloom. As much as they wanted me to feel like I had a "choice" in what I wanted to study, they would always "advise" me of what I should pursue, which of course usually was a demand, although sometimes it was just ambiguous. I made many mistakes of wanting to please them and trying to see if I can please myself through what they wanted. Of course, that failed miserably, but I couldn't pinpoint why. I was rushed into university, without having enough time to think what I wanted to pursue as from Grade 10 to 12, I was trying to survive doing the International Baccalaureate (it's like an international version of the AP). I wanted to take time off to find work, learn to live independently and to figure out my future career. But my parents wouldn't allow that and sent me off three months after graduation to university. It went smoothly at first, than it just started becoming disastrous. I moved from one degree to another, because I had no clue of what I wanted. To make it worse, I'm on government loan, which means I am the one paying for my education. After thinking a lot, along with getting into arguments with my family, my sister told me that as long as I live under their roof, I must follow their rules, including what they wanted me to study. I agree of course that I will follow the rules of the house, but the last part I can never agree with. I can and will not let them choose my future for me. To do that, will only lead me to a road of misery and unhappiness, with dreams and aspirations left unfinished.

As such, I have left the household out of my own choice and am going to struggle for a few weeks as I begin a life of independence. I'm currently staying with a friend for a bit, while I find permanent accommodation. I've got cash with me, but that won't last long. So I need to find a job quickly and register myself at the Welfare office to get a student allowance. I know it's going to be difficult, but as long as I look forward and keep myself motivated and do what is required of me, I believe that I still have a bright future ahead of me, with the shackles now lifted over my head. Wish me luck everyone, because I wouldn't have mustered up the courage to do this without the love and support I got from all of you here. :)
