I'm Taking a Break and Here's Why

Dear Readers:

I recently got trolled. Some guy in Costa Rica wrote me two letters: one posing as a father of furries in America who needed some help and the other posing as an Orthodox Christian Serbian who hates furries. He later wrote and said I had been fooled and that I was basically a fraud and a lousy writer.

I try very very very very hard to help people on my website and I do it for no pay, taking time out of my busy schedule to do this. To give my heart to people, to reveal to them my innermost personal life and try to share the love of being furry and then to be emotionally manipulated like this doesn't make me angry. It makes me feel like I shouldn't even bother.

I've blocked this guy's emails, but there's no guarantee he won't disguise himself again and try to waste my time.

Therefore, the letter form on my site has new fields. One requires your real address and the other a phone number. These will not be posted on the site or shared with advertisers, but I WILL be calling people and checking this information to verify you are who you say you are.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Sadly, we live in a world where some people get their jollies out of wasting people's time and trying to make them look like fools.

I appreciate your cooperation. I had to to this or risk the site becoming a useless den for trolls and shutting it down.

As it is, this guy's prank is going to make the process much slower and will probably result in some people who could use my help to not write to me. For this, I am very sorry.

I am also taking a hiatus. Writing "Ask Papabear" for three years has proven emotionally exhausting for me. I've written before how helping people gives my life purpose. Now it seems that my life's purpose is just garbage to some people.

I am going to focus on the Furry Book for a while. I don't honestly know when I will be back. The letters I have in the queue will be answered privately and not posted here.

Looking for an artist to commission to draw my fursona.

Hello everyone,

I've decided that I really want a visual representation of my fursona. I spent the past hours looking for an artist to commission, sadly I was unable to find one with examples that really stood out to me. There were a few but they were not taking requests. I think I just really suck at searching but I am very unfamiliar with this and have never done it before. The fact that I am a little picky makes it even worse.

Hopefully I'll be able to find someone here.

I am looking for a mid to high tier full digital drawing, with one SFW anthro character, detailed background, several details, based on an actual .. photo of myself? I think it would be neat if I (and hopefully others) would be able to recognize that it's me when they see it. This would really make it feel like it's 'my' fursona. :) I will send a photo and I want an anthropomorphized(SPELLING?!) version of it with some improvised features, details and background.

Here are some examples of images I do like, added some descriptions for context, hopefully this gives you an idea if things I like and if you are able to do or out-do any of these you are probably a match. (Note: my terminology sucks for art, I will just overuse the word 'Like' a lot. :p)

I will pay you up front, I will not pressure you and I'll try to be as clear as possible up front so you won't have to make too many changes, never will I ask you to re-do too much.

What is this sudden drop in /r/furry I am hearing about?

It has recently been brought to my attention that apparently this sub is going through a "down period". People leaving because of the lack of discussion, unintersting text posts or just uninterested all together...

And I'm wonder when did this happen?

I visit the sub everyday and wish I could post something each day but I just don't have anything to post right now...but others do. There is a post here everyday, and almost all of them are quality ones.

Now when I first joined this sub I only knew it for the art, no fur suits, no discussions, no streams, just a bunch of pictures of cute or interesting furry pictures. Then as time went on the discussions began to appear, questions of the day, interesting facts or just,problems people were having that the amazing people of this sub would be more than happy to help with.

Then came a group of regular posters, peole who would post and comment on eveything, being the /r/furry "celebreties" . Then the stream posts, the mass AMA posts and the multiple NSFW events...this sub has evolved over time...until where we are now.

The "celebrities" disappearing, the art posts going up, the discussions going down...it's kind of like the sub has done a bit of a loop back to the sub I first knew...and I know that the next "phase" this sub goes through will bring another group of posters.

Long story short I still love this sub, will visit it everyday like I have for the pat year, and am curious to see where the sub heads to next.

Anyone going to Ohayocon in a few months?

Ohayocon will be the first con I'll be going to and fursuiting. I was wondering if anyone else was going because none of my friends are able to and I have neither a handler or a group to go with which kinda frightens me as a first timer and at such a big con.

I wouldn't really have to have a handler but it'd be nice to at least know some people I could pal around with! I am very excited to be suiting for the first time though!

More Stop-Motion Canines from Wes

The animation community has been a-buzz following the announcement on several sites that Wes Anderson, direction of the Oscar and Ursa Major nominated Fantastic Mr. Fox, is developing another stop-motion animated feature film. About dogs. According to Cartoon Brew, “Details about his new canine cartoon are unavailable at this point. All we know is that it will be stop motion, and like Fantastic Mr. Fox, the production will take place in the UK. The Playlist pointed out the irony that Anderson would choose dogs as subject matter considering his fraught cinematic history with pooches. Dogs have been harmed so frequently in Anderson’s movies that the New Yorker once published a tongue-in-cheek commentary asking, ‘Does Wes Anderson hate dogs?’ Audiences may find out the answer soon.” We’ll have to hope that in this case he treats dogs more like he treated their foxy cousins.
