Even in a room full of people wearing animal costumes, a guy lugging a box of old vinyl to his table is going to stand out, especially when he starts drawing and painting on them. This is what caught my eye the first time I saw Eryshé Falafe, also known as Joe Meyer, at Pittsburgh’s Anthrocon around 2011. I ended up getting one myself that still takes up pride of place in my office, and eventually ended up carting a not insubstantial pile of vinyl across the pond for him to deface on my pilgrimage to Pittsburgh. One of them was the bawdily British  “Sinful Rugby Songs” which was quickly snapped up by a commissioner who also saw it’s parody potential.

Alternating between his three fursonas, cat-bunny hybrid Eryshé Falafe, red roo Divvy and rabbitdeer Galahad he has been producing comics since he was a kid, discovering furry around 2001, with a number of published works including. Slammin Buneez, the autobiographical In the Meantime and his scathing, satirical and unrelenting look at the fandom, Furry Nuuze Teevee. The strips feature Twiggy, a dumb overly enthusiastic canine TV reporter and host of his own show who diligently reports on the fandom. As a character reserved for lambasting and commenting on internal politics and drama that flair up in the fandom with alarming regularity he usually ends up reflecting the positive side of the fandom while making fun of the negative elements and people.

Running since 2006 and the flip side of the coin to FNTV, Destroying the Illusion is Meyer’s series of diary comics about his daily exploits, conventions and the absurdity of everyday life. Instead of the general drama and negativity this series is more introspective autobiographical comics about Joe’s time in the fandom and goings on in his life. Almost always overwhelmingly positive they often reiterate what anyone will say about the furry fandom and tell you makes for a great con experience: the people. Befitting the immediacy of the travel, diary comic Joe’s art on the strips, mostly in black and white have a cartoony look to them and a sketchy quality.

My favourite of his work though has to be his defaced vinyl’s. Maybe it’s the same feeling that comes from graffiti, that thrill of doing something you’re not supposed too. Don’t worry for the most part the ones he uses are some truly awful records. Inspired in part by a tumblr group featuring vinyl that had been found defaced in simple and random ways. Scribbles, scrawls and misplaced labels from the original owners, the majority of them are ‘found art’ curiosities discovered in charity shops and yard sales. Taking the idea one step further and with more care and attention Joe has altered and tinkered with  them in various ways, reinterpreting them as unique pieces of artwork. Painting over aspects of the cover, usually the figures with a commissioner’s fusona. I love how fun they are and how even within the confines of what’s already on the sleeve he can capture the personalities of the people behind the characters he paints onto them.

The site hosting the older comics is currently down but newer Destroying the Illusion comics (fondly dubbed DTI2.0) are currently hosted on his own site.

I've been forgetting to say it the past several times I've posted this story, but I welcome any and all feedback. The harsher, the better. I'm never going to improve if I don't get some critique.

If there's something you like, let me know. If there's something you don't like, definitely let me know. Not only am I writing because I have a story to tell, I'm writing because I want people to enjoy this stuff. If you aren't enjoying it, I'm doing a terrible job, aren't I?

Anyway, I have a bonus for you guys this time. It's the prologue to a new story I'm going to be writing alongside Quiet Falls whenever I need a break. There's probably going to be more of these parallel stories, because it makes my writing block less intense. If I can't right one story, I'll just move on and write a different one instead.

First of all, an upfront apology if I am using this sub-reddit in the wrong way, I never really used reddit before (I made an account just to post this).....

So recently, a really good friend of mine has stated in our friend group that he is a furry. I didn't really know anything about furries, other than that i've heard the term here and there. It looked like he was really relieved to tell us this, I already noticed that he was absent-minded lately so I figured something was bothering him.

Since he told us it seems like he is a bit worked up about it, so I just really want to talk and comfort him. The problem is however, that I don't really know what to talk about! I tried to find more info about furries online, but it seems like I can't find a source that isn't riddled with bias.

I did find this sub-reddit however, so I thought this would be the perfect way to learn a bit more about furries. Maybe you guys and gals also have some conversation starters for me? I hate to see him unhappy, since he's my best friend and I just want to let him know that I will always support him!

Also, sorry if my english falls short here and there, since it isn't my native language. Thanks in advance!

In case you missed it, Paul Jenkin’s Fiction Squad comic book mini-series was a continuation of his Fablewood concept: A place where all fairy tales and bedtime stories live side by side. Now Boom! Studios have collected the entire 6-issue series in a new Fiction Squad trade paperback. “Fablewood is a pretty dangerous place, but no area is more dangerous than the City of Rimes, deep in the heart of the Children’s Realm. I'm batman... nah...

DJ (my mate) is currently in the military while I am a commission artist and we are both car and music people. Car parts will be bought/collected as we are also in the process of building a racecar. :3 We enjoy playing music through the house whenever, but we are respectful of other's sleeping schedules. We don't usually wake up until around 12pm - 4pm central time, and we normally go to sleep anywhere between 2am and 6am. We tend to be active furs as in just being silly around the house, cracking jokes and just having a good time~

Currently we are looking at possibly moving into a smaller apt. for just ourselves, but if enough people show interest in rooming with us (2 or 3 perhaps) and we found them to meet our criteria, then we will get a pretty sizable house (3/4BD 2/3BA). Due to my job, we are NOT looking to move out of town. We are located in North Central Texas (4 hours west of Dallas). You are not required to attend college or schooling, but you are required to have a reliable source of income. We'll also consider those who work off commissions and try to work with you to come to an agreement. We are looking for anyone within the age of 18 - 26 to fill that slot~

At two extra roommates, the estimated rent would be roughly $400-$600 a month depending on the size of the house, and consumption of electricity. :3

///What if things go wrong? D:///

The only reason things would go wrong, is if you prove to be an unfit roommate. The only way to be an unfit roommate is if you do not hold up your end of the contract. (Rent due by a certain date, clean up after yourself, good hygiene, etc~ ) The personality comparability would be worked out beforehand, so that should not be an issue in the least bit. If for some reason we wanted you to leave the premises, we would give you a 30-60 day notice. We want you to have a safe place to go if anything like that were to happen.

///Whats in it for you?///

We want you to be as comfortable as possible :3 You will have a bedroom of your own. Internet access. Anything that is out for entertainment in the livingroom may be used. You will have kitchen access. Food should be labelled if you would like something specific, otherwise everything else is free game. I may usually make dinner for everyone, however if you wanted to make something for yourself, feel free to! Basically, if you need anything that you can not provide yourself, feel free to ask us. I (Darachi) am sort of a motherly type and would like to make sure everyone is comfortable and has everything that need.

So, whenever i try to talk to someone through a mic, i listen to a playback and think i sound like utter crap.

So, i need to record for a voice acting thing, but i can't bring myself to do it because i'm worried it will be horrid.

What can I do to increase my confidence? :/

Look, I just watched a video about this community, and I kinda was into it... I'm just a little confused on what it would be like of I joined, etc. I was hoping a nice furry could message me (I just joined reddit so I could post thus, not sure how it really works yet) and answer my questions.
