A Furry's thoughts on: Memories

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 22:39

So first of all, before I begin, I want to say thank you to you all who looked at my last thought post. I know it disagreed with some of you but I appreciate the comments as I learned several lessons from the experience. Lessons I will be using now.

First of all, a disclaimer. I am not an expert on human psychology. These are just some thoughts and advice for you to use to better your life and not make it suck. I'm not saying it does for you but for those whose life does, this is just some general information and advice for you. I am not forcing you to take it. Just a disclaimer.

Memories are what we have of the past. The past is always there, but we can’t touch it. We experienced it though. Some of it happy, some of it sad, some of it angry. Sometimes we have to let go and change, hopefully for the better. Some of us have lives that were dominated by happiness, some of us by sadness, fear, or loneliness. But they’re just memories. If it’s happy, then you could use it to make yourself happy in the current situation. If it’s sad or some other negative emotion, you can use it as a guideline along roads to lead you to better places.

Studies show our brain stops growing at age 18. That may be true in the natural sense but it’s wrong. They grow as we learn about stuff or memorize routes in a new city. Then it must shrink from age eventually. But memories define us and we define memories. Only you can be influenced of your own choice by your memories. We’re all different as we grow up.

My mum just gave away a bunch of baby toys and that made me think, I’m going to college in three years. By that time, I’ll be an adult. And I’m scared, but I’m excited too. A new part of my life. New memories and new ways to define myself. The furry fandom has started memories and has helped me grow up more. We’re never the same person through our lives. And that’s good. You gotta keep moving. So long as you remember who you used to be.

Memories are a way to guide us, and define us, at least in terms of personality. But don’t let memories define all of you. The future is still there, waiting for you to take it and craft it into whatever you want it to be. I guess all I’m trying to say is that even if your life sucked to this point and you’re broken because of it, don’t let it get to you. Memories can’t hurt you. They may emotionally but it usually doesn’t last too long until it starts depression. Then you’re sad and broken. How can you move on if you center yourself around your sad broken memories? You can’t. So leave those and make new ones. Better ones.

Feel free to give negative comments.

How/why/when did you realize and/or become a Furry?

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 20:56

This question isn't original but yet its still thought provoking! So fuzzy-butts why are we here now?

I originally started liking anthros when i was 11 I thought werewolves were pretty cool but didn't think anymore on it until later, when I was a freshman in highschool, a friend of mine who was a brony (im not one. but its fine if you are) called me out after seeing one or two photos on my ipod. I continued to refuse at which he kept calling me a a closet furry. Eventually after a month or two i decided, "eh well werewolves are cool, why not check out this 'fandom.'" That right then and there is when i decided it. Years have passed and i've been a furry from that point on! But I guess you could say i'm in the closet about it because only a few of my closest friends know about this...

Openly Furry and no longer afraid.

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 19:03

So I had first discovered the fandom back this past October. Since then, its felt, right. Every furry I encountered at the con I was at (it was an anime convention) was very friendly and welcoming. I didn't feel judged or looked down upon.

Since then, I have been openly furry. I have been wearing my tail, ears, and fluffy leg warmers out into public. Sure I get some weird looks adn even some comments but I feel comfortable in my own skin. Since my grandmother passed away its been hard for me to come out of my shell. Being furry has given me a chance to step away from my usual life and dive into my imagination and be a different character. I cannot say enough how glad I am to have joined into the fandom. I'm even getting my first suit this January (found it on furbuy). Thank you my fellow furs for changing my life and giving me something to belong to again.

Looking for some friends!

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 18:13

Hey. So, I was a long term "closet furry". I always denied and rejected the idea that I, myself, was a furry and always harassed furries on social media and such. I didn't want to be "accused" of being a furry for the longest time, but here I am. I'm a furry, just like the rest of you. I'm really looking forward to my time in this community. I think furries are just a fun and happy group in general and I need some of that in my life. I love mascotting too and the whole fursuiting idea just speaks to me. I plan on going to FWA 2016. I've always loved animals and anthros as long as I can remember, but I'm not into the fetish side of it at all. I'd like to meet some new people and hopefully start some new furiendships with you guys!

What is the difference between furries and otherkin?

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 17:53

Stumbled across the terms Otherkin and Therian earlier. How is this different from being a furry?

Furry Reddit - Sun 15 Nov 2015 - 17:07

And I have no freaking idea what to do :P My first though was "I should do an AMA", but then I realised I'm not interesting enough to do an AMA. I have no more ideas.

AND THEN I HAD THE MOST ORIGINAL THOUGHT EVER: I'll just make a post about it! Maybe someone'll help me :3
