When fursuits cross with sports, ‘Stupid Costume Enthusiasts’ go big – Part 2 of mascot series.

Dogpatch Press - Tue 1 Dec 2015 - 10:45
Edmonton Oil Kings hockey halftime show, January 2015. A three part series: 1) The beginning of mascots and fursuiting. 2) Fursuiting crossover with pro sports. 3) The National Mascot Hall of Fame. Some good examples of fursuiting crossover with pro sports. First, I have to admit not knowing a lot about commercial mascotting.  But here’s some quick comparison.  You can […]

Looking for an Xmas commission, First time buyer, what's a reasonable price

Furry Reddit - Tue 1 Dec 2015 - 08:13

For Xmas I want to buy my boyfriend and Girlfriend a peice of art of all 3 of our sonas together, only one character has a reference sheet so the other 2 would pretty much be artists choice outside of a couple size details, (species, weight and bust size pretty much) I am looking for color and i know that comes at a premium, but I am wondering what a decent artist would charge for it, both lineart and color

“Fashion is for fashion people Get out there now and break the rules”-Leon Rozelaar’s “Sick Threads”

Marfed - Furry Comics - Tue 1 Dec 2015 - 07:27

tumblr_nyf899tqJS1tz1a5yo1_1280

Sick Threads is a delightful little eight page, done in one comic by Leon Rozelaar. Described as “a short comic about aesthetics”, I was lucky enough to pick one up at Thought Bubble earlier this month. Part comic, part fashion spread it stars a style tribe of hip young animal characters in adorable and stylish outfits out shopping as they trawl the racks, hunting down the perfect ensemble.

It’s a really cute, clever little comic and Rozelaar conveys entirely through images the importance that clothing can have, what they say about a person and the importance of finding something that’s just right for many people to either express their individuality or declare their alliance with a certain subculture. His figures move between clothing displays, the rails running along the panels as he deftly incorporates them into the layout. He has an eye for detail in both the items of clothing, detailed with patches, buckles and spikes as well as the way they are shown in close ups on high end shop displays. Later, our fashionistas are shown customising their finds and wearing them in distinct ways. Cutting up jeans and rolling up sleeves for unique details, rather than sticking to the generic off the peg look. As with the comic itself, little touches say a lot.

Rozelaar has a style that instantly reminded me of two other artists who use both use anthropomorphic characters and street fashion into their comic work, Jim Medway with his story of bored inner city kids, Playing Out and Louis Roskosch, creator of the aimless duo Leeroy and Popo. The full comic is still available to view in it’s entirety online for free, but its well worth your time and money to contact the artist to check if he has any copies of the wonderful printed version he produced for Thought Bubble.

More of Leon Rozelaar’s work can be found over on his art blog and he is currently available for commission work.

First Time Opening Commissions, Also, any suggestions?

Furry Reddit - Tue 1 Dec 2015 - 04:25

I don't know if it's ok to just post this here, but i felt like finally opening commissions, and since i don't really have any gallery (fa, weasyl) this was the only place i could think of.

Prices, im still not really sure about, but i felt like going with these:

Ref sheet: 40$ (two drawings + extra thing you can ask for, eg: expressions)
Fully shaded: 30$ Fully shaded with detailed background: 50$
Inked: 20$ Sketch: 10$
(sooo, do you guys think these prices are fair? are they too high/ too low?) :O

For examples, here's an album of some of the stuff i posted here: http://imgur.com/a/Z1Cf0

Anyways, if you feel like commissioning me, just throw me an pm and we can talk about the details.
And thanks! C:

I’m Bat Pat!

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 1 Dec 2015 - 02:59

Woo! And one more more MIPCOM entry. Bat Pat is a production of Atlantyca Entertainment in Italy. According to Animation Magazine, “The 2D series follows the spooky and comical adventures of a talking bat, Bat Pat, and the [human] Silver siblings… as they unravel mysteries and cross paths with supernatural creatures of the night in the quirky town of Fogville.” According to Atlantyca, “Bat Pat grew up in a dark library in a different town, so he has an encyclopedic knowledge of the various creatures of the night. Bat Pat is like a kid full of wide-eyed wonder, he truly appreciates the little thing daytime offer but nighttime is where Bat Pat really thrives. Despite his initial fears, he’s equally driven to help supernatural creatures in need because Bat Pat shares a common link with them…they’re both creatures of the night and usually misunderstood by ‘normal’ people! Bat Pat is very loyal to the kids and they love him, they consider Bat Pat ‘the flying Silver’.” The show is based on the popular series of young reader books by Roberto Pavanello. Atlantyca has a production web site for the show that includes lots of background notes and a video trailer.
