Mammoth versus… Pirates?

In-Fur-Nation - Sat 7 Jan 2012 - 02:33

We swear, we can not make this stuff up on our own… Here’s the basic description of Ice Age: Continental Drift, coming this July from Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox: “Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.” Pirates. Okay.  Well, if they can do Santa Claus B.C., why not pirates? Of course Ray Romano, Denis Leary, and John Leguizamo return as mammoth, sabertooth, and sloth respectively, along with new voices including Peter Dinklage, Jennifer Lopez, and Aziz Ansari. The fourth Ice Age go-round is directed by Mike Thurmeier (co-director of Ice Age 3) and Steve Martino (Horton Hears A Who!). If you go to the film’s web site there’s a short Scrat cartoon that also serves as a trailer for the new movie.

Furries for Nat. Geo.

DailyFurBlog - Fri 6 Jan 2012 - 21:48

Yeh like most said, “That was only a matter of time.” . Well the National Geographic Channel did a special with their show “Taboo” about furries …. it’s hummmm interesting . I think they should do a more normal show like following furries in the wild, see how they act, see how they eat and see how they mate. Erhummm maybeeeee not… so this is best probably.

Outed as a furry at work

Furry Reddit - Fri 6 Jan 2012 - 17:45

At work today my superviser was talking about his new star wars game and that in a live party they someone said "what would you rather have sex with, jabba or an ewok?" I said "if you chose the ewok there wouldnt be much of it to do" then his resonse was "if you fucked an ewok you'd be a furry. Do you know what they are? Perverted freaks that fuck animals and make animal porn pictures and wear horrible suits" and i got a bit defensive and said that furries arent all like that and theyre normal people that just like to have fun etc... to which he responded "omg you're one of them!" Then proceeded to text half my coworkers... what can i say to explain to them that there is noting wrong with furries, or at least wind them up about it?

Thanks for all the replies everyone, read all your comments. He doesnt seem as bothered by it now, just makes a few jokes about it now. I wore my collar at work to wind him up. Thanks guys <3

Unique Suits 2 – The Videographers

[adjective][species] - Thu 5 Jan 2012 - 19:00

It’s hard to get a fursuit and not show it off.

Very hard.

When I first got my suit, I didn’t even wait until I had the whole thing all set up.  I picked my suit up from the maker at FC2011, stuffed the body suit and my shoes in the duffel I had brought along with, put on the rest, and headed back to the lobby.  I figured there was no reason for me to even bother dropping stuff back in the room; I had someone watch the duffel and wandered around as a partial otterman, making a fool of myself.  So it’s no surprise that furries and video get along like chocolate and coffee.

Several people have wondered aloud how to dance to dubstep.  It’s slow, it’s full of extraneous noise, and it’s difficult to find the beat some times.  Well, now you can thank the user NekoFluff on YouTube for an instructional video!  With special guest star: his dad!

Furries are all about dancing.   It’s one of the prime things we do at conventions, where the dance is one of the more popular activities to partake in.  So it’s no surprise that two of the videos I found to feature involve dancing.  Of course, this one has the added bonus of being put together from a series of still images to make the suiters float.  Pretty neat, I’d say.

Of course, not everyone is quite as interested in simply dancing in suit. Why, there’s all sorts of things you could do, like, say, review old electronics! Well, to be honest, I’d never thought of doing such a thing, but at least two people have: EmmersonCollie and SpatsBear2 on YouTube both have a few reviews of old appliances and electronics conducted in suit.

What’s life without poopjokes?  Well… I’m sure it’s just fine, actually, but anyway, here’s a fursuit poopjoke.  I…don’t have much else to add to this video.  That’s about it.

This is just four videos out of the countless ones available on YouTube, Vimeo, and any number of other video sharing sites out there. I picked these simply to get a good variety, and I know I only just scratched the surface. If you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments!

After a recent article about suiting, it has been brought to my attention by several folks that I spent most of my time talking about suiting at cons and interacting only with other furries.  Of course, that’s not the only context in which fursuiters don their garb!  In the spirit of providing a more inclusive look into the costuming side of the fandom, I’m going to be pulling together a few of these vignettes on different aspects of fursuiting.  If you have any suggestions* to make regarding some unique use of suiting outside of the con scene, please feel free to either leave comments on this post, or email them to submit@adjectivespecies.com.  You can also send them to our Twitter, Google+, or FA accounts!

Invasion of the Super-Pets

In-Fur-Nation - Thu 5 Jan 2012 - 02:49

Capstone Publishing is starting 2012 off in a big way with their DC Super-Pets series of full-color graphic novels, which start to hit the shelves this month. Here’s part of their promo advertisement: “The DC Super-Pets series features the crime-fighting adventures of the pets of favorite super heroes from beloved DC Comics: Superman, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and Green Lantern. These intrepid Super-Pets—Krypto the Super-Dog, Ace the Bat-Hound, Streaky the Super-Cat, Beppo the Super-Monkey, Jumpa the Super-Kangaroo, and their friends—save the day and foil the evil plans of the universe’s most dastardly super villains.  The books have been specially designed for children just learning to read independently. Included in the endpapers are illustrations of all the Super-Pets in the series (both heroes and villains), jokes, and a guide to the meaning and pronunciation for each book’s most challenging words.” Look at this series and you’ll realize you never knew there were so many super pets! Each of these 56-page trade paperbacks features the art of Eisner Award-winning DC Comics artist Art Baltazar, with scripts by Scott Sonneborn, Sarah Stephens, Jane B. Mason, John Sazaklis, and Donald Lemke. Capstone also has an interactive web site for the entire series.

Furry + Daww?

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Jan 2012 - 01:05

I noticed that /r/mylittlepony got a sub reddit called /r/mylittledaww which displayed adorable pony art. I was wondering if anyone could make a sub reddit for adorable (non-nsfw) furry art?
