Any metalhead furs out there? (Art by Neko-Maya)
Posted this as a FA link a while ago and it got buried, but what are your impressions about my OC Verdori? (Art by BlackTalons)
Spent some of my time making a deep Christmas message drawing for everyone here. <3
This fandom is confusing me in a different way...
In the last couple of days, usually after having conversations with my furry friends, I question my sexuality a lot, and honestly it really really worries me. Mostly because I want to be secure in my sexuality right now, being straight, and secondly because I'm an extremely religious person and it'd be against my personal beliefs. I never even thought anything of this until I joined the fandom, especially getting good friends within the fandom. Also I really like one of my friends, and I think he hits on me...? And I don't know how I feel towards him.
I really don't know what to do, but I don't want to change for strongly religious reasons.
Help...?
EDIT - This thread has really broken down to it's barest bones of this discussion, so if you wish to get involved now, just letting you know it gets very philosophical.

Quick Question
How big is the fandom, as far as how many members are a part of it?

Farewell Meet and Greet this Saturday in Saint Louis, Missouri: Our favorite venue closing permanently at the end of the year.
Bad Dog Bar & Grill is closing its doors permanently on January 1st.
The economy had an impact on regulars and the riots scaring everyone else away. The owners floated the place as long as they could out of their own pockets and can no longer do so.
Bad Dog gave me a job when I really needed one and it also welcomed everyone with open arms.
In fact, I was in fursuit one night with Amarok and someone was heckling us. The bartender and bar owner both asked him to leave, telling the guy that this was our home. This really resonated with me as a safe place that we could be ourselves no matter who we were.
We hosted many furry meets here, from eating the tastiest food in Saint Louis to Karaoke to playing Cards Against Humanity and ultimately making new friends in the process.
The bar will be missed greatly and I still can't believe this news even as I type it.
We are having a farewell meet and greet on Saturday, December 27th from 6pm to Midnight. Some of us may be going to their New Years Eve fetish ball on their final night as well.
If interested, here is the address: Bad Dog Bar & Grill 3960 Chouteau Avenue Saint Louis, Missouri
The venue is next door to a White Castle and has plenty of parking as well as a heated patio for smoking.

So i found this willst walking my pup,
Massive transit to Anthrocon 2015
Hello, everyone! Anthocon is getting closer and closer by the day! Many think that they won't be able to make it for several reasons. Money cost, transport/gas, hotel cost, nobody to go with... Well how about this?! I'm setting up a large group from Missouri and Illinois to travel together, split gas, and split the cost of hotel rooms. I'll be planning this until 4 weeks before, at which point we will all get together to finish prep and make sure everything is in order. So if your in the MO/IL area, and are interested in being part of this massive furry armada, leave a message, and a means to contact you.

Hey furries I need your help.
A friend of mine lost his son last year at a very young age and he was going to paint the son's room with foxes so now foxes and the color orange has a lot of meaning to him. I need your help to get together a bunch of fox art so I can give it to him from all of us. (Hope this goes without saying but don't comment anything nsfw)
edit thank you guys so much when i finish the project I will post it here.

It's FAR from finished but I'm drawing the fursona of one of my gf's twitch followers. He's a hunter!
The evolution of the fandom's image
So I can't put a date on the exact day when I suddenly decided I was a furry, but it was definitely some time in 2004, which means that come the end of this year I will most certainly have been a furry for ten years. And I was thinking that a hell of a lot's changed in ten years.
Ten years is, in human terms, a significant span of any person's life - anywhere from a third (for the very unfortunate) to an eighth (for most of us) to a tenth (for the exceptionally long-lived). On the internet, however, ten years is a truly colossal length of time - in the ten years I've been a furry, entire trends, movements and subcultures have been born, faded away and sometimes even risen again. Back when I started, 4chan was a tiny little website on which memes stayed fresh for months. Nowadays, 4chan is one of the most well-known websites on the internet, and something that's funny in the present moment has a humour shelf-life of just about how long it takes for the thread it was invented in to 404.
Back when I started, you essentially had to hide being a furry from everyone else on the internet if you wanted to be able to have even a remotely normal social life. Everyone lived in constant fear of 4chan or Encyclopedia Dramatica discovering them and tearing them apart. If it was mentioned in the mainstream media at all (a fantastically rare event) it was always looked upon as a weird, unhealthy fetish culture that was full of all the people your parents warned you about. Furries were not well-equipped to handle the constant trolling that would inevitably follow being "outed" as a furry, nor did we deal well with the negative media attention.
Everything's changed so much in a decade if you'd told me half of the things that are true of our fandom now ten years ago I'd have said you were completely crazy.
The furry fandom as a whole, I feel, has matured somewhat. We deal much better with trolling in that we just promptly remove it without fanfare on sites which we have power and ignore it on sites which we don't. We don't feel inspired to brashly advertise our interests to the uninterested. Apart from a few reprobates dotted about here and there, we cause a significantly smaller amount of drama nowadays. We're much more canny when it comes to the media, in that we let a few people well-versed in handling the media deal with it for us, and we generally refuse to talk to people who we know have an agenda in their reporting on us.
Mainstream media has been a lot more diligent in covering the non-sexual aspects of the fandom like the art, merchandising, fursuiting etc. at large social gatherings and conventions. After rescuing Fernando's in Pittsburgh, a lot of businesses both there and in other regular convention areas realised that we have tons of disposable income (hey, fursuits don't come cheap!) and a lot of love for people who treat us with respect.
There are also external factors, like the evolution of the brony fandom, which has sort of supplanted us as the designated internet punching bag subculture. I also consider the unfortunate, mushrooming rise of identity politics to be a similar contributing factor to this. "Being a furry" simply isn't as important a factor of your online persona as it used to be.
All of this has led to something I never thought I'd see even five or six years ago - people are just getting bored of trolling furries. Even on 4chan, people don't think it's anywhere near as entertaining as it used to be, and even on /b/, which used to be considered the capital city of hating furries, I've seen people saying "trolling furfags got old." Non-furries will defend furries in internet arguments. Negative media coverage of us is all but dead.
Furry, nowadays, is that thing you can be if you want to be seen as just a touch weird but not too weird.
