Furfunding Week in Review: 12-28-14
This week’s illustration is the reverse side of Pelted Primacy, now funding on Kickstarter.
This week, DJKyota’s “Pelted Primacy” makes its return to Kickstarter. I’ve been watching this project for a few years, and it’s been an interesting exercise in adaptation. In its latest incarnation DJ has developed the artwork and is using Kickstarter for a preorder system. “Pelted Primacy” was one of the first projects I covered, in my second post. I’ve got my fingers crossed, here’s hoping this is the evolution of the project that springboards it to success!
This week saw a lot of really, really first-time projects that were a bit on the rough side. Uncertain of why–I don’t plan to bother following the astonishingly missable “Thundercats” fan film ($1mil goal, no business plan…), but some of them were so undeniably furry that I have to at least give them a nod. In particular, “Redemption” stands out for having most of a chapter in the in-line text of its Kickstarter story, as well as having only one paragraph of business content. “Isles of Eventide,” is a nice-looking little non-anthro RPG, also suffering a bit from “first time out.” I think we may see this one again in the vague future.
For a “complete” list of furry/fur-friendly crowdfunding projects, check out the Project Page and Patreon Page! New Projects ArtMeimei and Po Calendar (Ends: 1/11/2015)
Japanese-style fantasy animal and human art–lots of foxes!–in a lovely art calendar.
Engineers with Puppies: A Swimsuit Calendar (Ends: 1/14/2015)
Images, please? Use that gallery function, guys! A largely self-explanatory project raising money for the Champaign County Humane Society and Techbridge, a campaign supporting women in engineering and science.
Argh, they’re using two different crowdfunding platforms. Dumb, dumb, dumb…
Redemption: A Fantasy Novel (Ends: 1/22/2015)
First-time novel project in an anthro fantasy universe.
I suspect including “noooooo” in the sample page was a mistake.
Powerful Plants (Ends: 2/16/2014)
Okay, not strictly FURRY but nutrition education loaded with anthro plants and veggies!
RABBIT (Ends: 1/22/2014)
A graphic novel of a rabbit working as a bar-bouncer in a city of carnivores. Strange, rough, and abstract indie goodness.
Tabby (Ends: 2/8/2015)
It’s a sweet rom-com with a crazy cat lady as the main character! Great cats and nice art.
Lots of art and sketchwork on the artist’s process blog.
Pelted Primacy (Ends: 1/16/2015)
Anthro card deck by DJKyota, with character art for the court cards and unique paw-print suit designs.
It’s been interesting watching this deck evolve over time, it was one of the first project I covered here.
Squatting Dog (Ends: 1/30/2015)
If you really, really needed a miniature figurine of a shiba caught in mid-poop, the internet will provide.
Second Chance: The Game (Ends: 1/25/2015)
Eliana-Asato‘s furry dating sim project.
Language in project page is kind of off (artist speaks Russian natively). Think that’s hurting her business case.
Isles of Eventide (Ends: 1/30/2015)
A fascinating fantasy world MMORPG with non-anthro characters and monsters.
More at the Bloodstream Studios DA page.

A couple of screenshots from a custom 3D engine I've been working on for rendering furry characters in VR. This actually does run at the requisite 75 FPS to drive a Rift DK2 with a couple of characters in the scene, though only on a fairly new video card. Characters are animated with skeletal deformation and the long fur is dynamically simulated -- bounces and moves in response to motion and scene physics. All lighting and shadowing is dynamic, with the fur both casting and receiving shadows.
I'm a developer, not an artist, so I apologize for the quality of the sculpt; it's more of a tech demo than an art showcase. (oh god don't look at the paws)

I am so sorry for this pun. I am deeply ashamed.
Any furries up for some Minecraft?
Edit 2: Server down due to some issues regarding the host and Windows deciding it needed to restart for some pointless update. I'll try again tomorrow with something hosted from home. Sorry everyone and have a good evening ;~;

Conventions in the Midwest?
So I've been in the fandom for at least 6 years now but I've never been to an actual event and I suppose I'd like to.
I'm in Minnesota though, and from what I've gathered most events are on the east coast or at least 500+ miles away.
Anyone know of any good conventions in general or who had a schedule of events so I could plan to attend one? : 3

Since I've been using this to explain to people what furries are, I figured that I should probably run it by you guys by now :)
Here's a rundown I gave to another commentor:
Basically, the furry fandom is a group of people who like anthropomorphic animals, animals with human characteristics. Kinda like, for example, Bugs Bunny.
The furry fandom is similar to most other fandoms: we have art, we write, we cosplay (more on that in a sec), we have cons, etc. the primary difference between the furry fandom and, say, the anime fandom, is that we don't have a central show or book the fandom revolves around. We make what we enjoy.
Now, the cosplay is a bit complicated. Most furries (I saw a survey somewhere that quoted 98%, but I'm not sure of reliability) have 'fursonas'. Fursonas are representations of these people in the community as anthropomorphic animals. Generally, they're used as a basis for art, in role play, and to create the costumes, called fursuits.
As with any other fandom, there's a sexual side to it. It's called 'yiff'. One survey I found online stated that, of the furry fandom:
About 33% are majorly interested in the sexual aspect of the fandom
38% are minorly sexually interested
The remainder has no sexual interest in the fandom
So, the furry fandom is a lot more sexualized than other fandoms are. Tends to make us easier to pick on and harder to defend. Public media perception used to be (talking 90's and early 00's) extremely negative. Shows like CSI showed furries as basically sex-crazed animal-fuckers. No, that's not us. That's not us at all. MTV also had a show that had an episode featuring furries. Same result. I think the first major good media coverage of furries was in 2006, when a reporter snuck into a convention (they weren't handing out media passes at that point because of the negative press) and wrote an overwhelmingly positive report. Since then, it's been a slow, steady uphill battle, particularly fought on the Internet.
The history of the furry fandom is claimed by some to go all the way back to early human history, with specific cave paintings cited as the source. I don't believe his myself. The modern furry fandom sprung off of a group of sci fi fans. The fact that it timed into the creation and spread of the Internet (90's) allowed it to grow.
If I missed anything, or you're wondering anything, don't be afraid to ask. Also, I feel I should mention the 19 people who were hospitalized in a chemical attack on a furry convention a short while ago. You can easily Google it. It was pretty big news.
Anyways, any questions?

My traumatic experience coming out as a furry.
Do any of you fluffbutts play Warframe?
I used to play a good bit, but now that the guys I played with got uninterested and whatnot, I'm pugging. And don't get me wrong, pugging isn't bad, but waiting 15 - 30 minutes for some missions sucks, and soloing stuff is a drag. Besides, making new friends is always awesome! I'm not too far into the game, but I have most planets unlocked and I kinda know what I'm doing. Sorta.
Anyway, anyone wanna team up and do crap sometime?

Sex in the Marriage Should Be 50/50
Okay, be prepared to read a wild tale.
I am a female Brony (or Pegasister, if you rather) who married a furry 6 months ago. I appreciated the furry culture before, and since I met my furry mate, I have been trying to create roleplays and the like that I think he would enjoy. My problem is that he doesn't like ponies (which I respect) -- unless it's vore. I don't know your feelings on vore, but I want to be able to please him. It's just difficult to simulate in real life and I'm having trouble coming up with things to say and do that will help his fetish. It's also difficult to truly immerse ourselves into the fantasy because we can't afford props or suits to play in. I call him my puppy and have taken the dominant role in our relationship, which is great for his submissive personality and for daily life, but I have trouble being the predator when it comes to our bedroom. How can I accommodate him? Do you have any advice on how I could gain enough confidence to be what he needs me to be? I've always been submissive before I met him, so I'm having trouble being on the other side of the whip. Please help!
Brofists and hugs,
Cupric Crystal

Dear Cupric,
The specific fetishes etc. that you’re talking about here are irrelevant. It is also irrelevant whether or not you have the necessary props to perform a fantasy, since good role players can perform fantasies with or without such physical objects (remember, 90% of sex is in the brain, leaving only 10% for your poor genitals).
The real issue has to do with compatibility. I have to wonder how long you knew this furry before you married. Be that as it may, what makes a marriage or other partnership work is the give-and-take. That is, ideally, everything should be 50/50, including finances, housework, child rearing, and sex.
There are times when the 50/50 split has to be put on hold, such as when a partner is sick or out of work. When something like that happens, it is unfair to demand the one at a disadvantage to perform. An interesting example: I just watched The Theory of Everything last night, which is the story of Stephen Hawking. It focuses more on his personal relationships and struggle with ALS than on his academic achievements. Hawking (played brilliantly by Eddie Redmayne) meets and falls in love with Jane (also superbly played by Felicity Jones) while he’s at Cambridge. Even though they learn he has ALS and is expected to live only a couple of years (this is in 1963; Hawking is a testimony to the triumph of human will over medical “knowledge”), she sticks by him through thick and thicker. A funny scene occurs between Hawking and one of his school day chums when he is asked how ALS affects his sexual performance and Hawking replies that it is one reflex he hasn’t lost (he fathered 3 children while paralyzed). Anyway, the point is that Jane stuck by Stephen because she loved him and it wasn’t his fault he had ALS. However (spoiler alert) their marriage falls apart because of infidelity (on both of their parts, but—not properly emphasized in the movie—mostly on his part).
While you’re not talking about infidelity, what I mean here is that there is a time to compromise and there is a time to insist on your fair share. Your husband has no physical infirmity that you mention, so I assume he is in good health and there is no reason for you to compromise.
Therefore, you are asking me the wrong question. The question isn’t “How can I compromise even further to accommodate his needs?” The question, rather, should be “Why isn’t he doing anything to please me in return?”
You see, Cupric, if your husband returned the favor and stimulated you with your sexual fantasies, it would boost your libido significantly, and this would then make it much easier to play the dom role on occasion because you will have been sexually satisfied. The key ingredient here, therefore, is passion. You are having trouble satisfying him because you are not turned on, and you are not turned on because he has done nothing to show that he is sexually passionate for you as a person.
You need to make clear your needs in the bedroom, and if he is not okay with that then I foresee rough waters ahead for you and your marriage. Hopefully, he will see the light.
Good luck!

For today's CaH game... let's make some custom cards!
Edit: Link to details of today/night's game!
NO POST EDITS! I CANNOT NOTICE THOSE! Double post instead.
We can use a nifty feature of pretend you are xyzzy which allows you to use cardcast decks so why not make a deck of cards just for this sub (and /r/yiff, of course).
Suggest your cards and remember that being offensive is part of the game.
Nothing is sacred, nothing is too soon.
If you don't like it, the door is to the left.
Suggesting a black card. Make a post like this:
BLACK
Once again, FA bot crashed because _______

**BLACK** *Once again, FA bot crashed because _______*You can use multiple "___________" for multiple gaps.
Suggesting a white card. Make a post like this:
