Furries sought to appear on 'Dr. Phil'
Posted by Equivamp on Sat 11 Jan 2014 - 17:20Okay, so an anon here totally called it, but CBS Television Distribution is calling for stories from people who are "Furry And Proud":
Are you interested in fictional animal characters with human personalities and proud of it? Do you like to dress up as your favorite animal character and go to Anthrocon, Further Confusion, or the ConFurence conventions? Do you have other friends in the furry world? Are there people in your life who don’t accept your furry side? Do you feel society should have a better understanding on what the furry world is all about? ONLY SUBMIT YOUR STORY IF YOU'RE WILLING TO APPEAR ON TV WITH DR. PHIL. Thanks for contacting the show!
My guess is that this will go the way of other such shows to feature furries.
Missing fur: Darraby
Posted by Draconis on Fri 7 Jun 2013 - 23:41Daryn Collie (aka Darraby) had just dropped off a relative on the way back from the airport. He let them know he was heading straight to his Oklahoma home, as he had to work the next day. He never made it.
Local furs made calls, but his cell phone was not receiving them. Family gained access to his email and contacted the email addresses on that list. As of this date no-one has heard anything of him.
Daryn's orange 2007 Dodge Nitro with Oklahoma plates 038KCM was found in the Mount Hood National Forest in Oregon. He may have planned this, but police are treating it as an abduction.
Artist spotlight: Jeremy Bernal; a retrospective
Posted by Isiah Jacobs on Mon 14 Jan 2013 - 06:43In honor of the ten-year existence of SexyFur, and the recent publication from FurPlanet, Isiah interviews Jeremy Bernal about his career as a furry artist. Some mature topics are covered.
Isiah Jacobs: Hello, Mr. Bernal, thank you so much for joining me today! It's a great pleasure to have you on the show!
Jeremy Bernal: Thanks for the opportunity of the interview.
Isiah Jacobs: For the very few furries out there who have never heard of you before, you are the owner of two of the most well know furry porn pay sites, SexyFur and Tail Heat. SexyFur has been around for pretty much ten years now, and you just recently came out with your first official publication; a decade's worth of retrospective pin ups.
Jeremy Bernal: I'm not sure if it's the first official publication. We've done some other artist books and comics before the retrospective book. But it's probably the first "new book-like thing" I've put together in a few years.
Library director calls for fursuit-related policy review
Posted by GreenReaper on Thu 13 Sep 2012 - 22:13Library director Janet Nocek of Portland, Connecticut had her work cut out explaining furries to board members tonight after calling a meeting to review the library's behaviour policy, reportedly after fursuited visits to other local libraries raised fears of child enticement.
The piece in the Hartford Courant highlighted concerns about those visiting in disguise, and in particular non-religious use of hoods or masks (forbidden by the library's rules of conduct), which in this case might cause families to mistake fursuiters as official mascot characters.
Update (14 Sep): The issue was raised in a discussion thread started late last month by Henry Dutcher of Enfield. Initial replies were humorous, but the talk got more serious when he mentioned a child took a fursuiter's paw and was "led away by them" (within the library).
Update 2 (17 Sep): Television stations WFSB and NECN have also covered this story.
ARP survey: Furries vs. fursonas, therians, non-furs & artists
Posted by GreenReaper on Tue 29 May 2012 - 01:45Fursonas get furs "closer to norms"; unlike therians, most furs don't want to be "0% human".
The results are out for the ARP's Winter 2012 survey, held online and at Furry Fiesta 2012.
Researchers confirmed past survey results, while investigating:
- personality differences between non-furs, furs and fursonas
- furries' impressions of non-furry perceptions of the fandom
- whether furs felt their fandom was distinct from anime
- whether furries felt entitled towards content creators
- whether certain fan activities were healthy or unhealthy
- levels of pet ownership, vegetarianism, and association with animal rights causes
- reasons for male-domination of and stigma towards the fandom
- other differences between furries, non-furries and therians
The 32-country survey covered 1,098 adults (951 furs, 104 non-furs); 152 were therians.
Review: 'Solatorobo: Red the Hunter'
Posted by crossaffliction on Wed 9 Nov 2011 - 01:19Solatorobo: Red the Hunter is a story-based role-playing game for the Nintendo DS, featuring character design that should more than appeal to furries. If anything, it's as furry as any Star Fox game, and the characters’ animal nature has more effect on the story than just punny names.
The game is some sort of prequel/sequel/something to a game called Tail Concerto. I missed that one, so this was my first introduction to the setting.

Analysis: Fur Affinity's staff revamped; dev team still lacking
Posted by Rakuen Growlithe on Wed 24 Aug 2011 - 21:52Fur Affinity recently announced a restructuring and increase in staffing. On the main site, staff acknowledged "administrator inaction, bias, and a lack of accountability" but assured users that they "truly want to fix the issues, and [are] working toward a better Fur Affinity."
To see whether this change is going to be enough to improve Fur Affinity, I want to compare the administration structures of the three main furry art sites – Fur Affinity (FA), SoFurry (SF) and Inkbunny (IB) – plus a few details from commercial alternative deviantART (DA).

2011 Recommended Anthropomorphics List: August update
Posted by Fred on Sun 7 Aug 2011 - 16:12The Anthropomorphic Literature and Arts Association, which administers the annual Ursa Major Awards, has updated the 2011 Anthropomorphic Reading List to include all of the titles recommended by furry fans through the beginning of August. This list is often used by fans to nominate in the next year's Awards.
All fans are invited to recommend worthwhile anthropomorphic works in ten categories (motion pictures, dramatic short films or broadcasts, novels, short fiction, other literary works, graphic stories, comic strips, magazines, published illustrations, and games) first published during 2011, if they are not already on the list.
Furries on Youtube
Posted by chance on Thu 17 Dec 2009 - 08:27Many furries as of late, have reported being "Trolled" on the popular media site, youtube.com. While many furries are choosing to ignore comments left by trolls on their YT channels, as well as in video comments, and personal messages, some furries are taking a stand.
Many small groups have appeared across YouTube, all seemingly linked to one main group, the New*Furry*Military or the N*F*M. This leads to the questions, what happened to the OLD Furry Military, and why does the leader, MrDisambiguation, want to post this group all over the internet? What does he hope to gain? Perhaps he wants to be a famous fur? Or maybe he just wants to make a point.
I'll be keeping tabs on this subject until I dig up these and many other answers.
