Pittsburgh playwrights pen furry musical, invite Anthrocon attendees to observe reading

Your rating: None Average: 5 (2 votes)

Pittsburgh, PA – When Pittsburgh lyricist Bill Medica and musician JC Carter saw the influx of furries for the first Anthrocon in Pittsburgh, they were mystified. But as they observed Anthrocon 2006, their thoughts on furries changed.

"They're not afraid to be themselves," said Carter. "When they left, the magic left."
"They were such a force," added Medica.

Inspired by their experience, they decided to write a play entitled Furry Tales. The first staged reading will occur on July 5, 2007, on the first day of festivities for Anthrocon 2007, at the CLO Cabaret.

Frozen Oasis returns to Anthrocon

The Frozen Oasis XI poster

The Frozen Oasis is planning to make a splash at Anthrocon 2007 this Friday, with a three-room suite reserved for the late-night rave.[1][2] The party specializes in drum and bass music, but has also featured synthpop and electronic body music.[3]

Whatever's playing, it's certainly popular. At least 200 furs attended on Frozen Oasis' first night at Further Confusion 2007, and more than 150 on the second, with estimates ranging to over double these figures.[4] More recently, the party drew 94 at Morphicon 2007 - over a third of the convention's 245 attendees.[5]

Part of the attraction may be the booze, though the party also offers multi-coloured lei and glow sticks to lighten the mood. Most conventions have their own official dances, but alcohol is rarely available - definitely not the case here, where alcohol consumption is measured in tens of gallons.

"Furry Tales" proves popular with furs; Anthrocon board still has reservations

The new musical Furry Tales was presented as a staged reading this Thursday night, at the CLO Caberet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ten musical numbers were included within the ninety-minute show, which was performed in one act.[1][2]

The board of Anthrocon, Inc. had been invited and was there in force, including chairman Uncle Kage, art show director PeterCat, and director of publications Xydexx. They weren't the only ones. Advance promotion in local press and the Anthrocon forums and LiveJournal led to significant demand for tickets, and almost every seat in the house was filled.

Anthrocon 2007 starts with a bang

Anthrocon 2007 got off to a cracking start this Wednesday, as fireworks celebrating Independence Day broke the night sky with rivers of red flame. The fireworks could be seen clearly from the convention hotel's upper floors, reaching several hundred feet up into the air, in patterns of stars, interlocking circles, and what appeared to be mushrooms.

For many, though, the party started hours or even days ago. Furry fans started arriving in the hotel last weekend, and were reported to be filling the convention hotel lobby by Tuesday.[1] Many more seem to have taken Wednesday, Thursday and Friday off to attend the convention.

Lots of stuff this month, though nothing I find really exciting. Take a look at *Mice Templar*. The big furry news at the moment is *Ratatouille*, but there’s only a cine-manga comic in the current issue. And I hope everyone enjoyed AnthroCon!

Fur Affinity access disrupted amid owner dispute

Popular furry art community Fur Affinity was temporarily inaccessible early this morning due to a dispute over the ownership of the site.

The controversy began after Alkora Husky (previously known as Jheryn Lightfoot), founder of Fur Affinity and owner of the domain name furaffinity.net, was removed from adminship in response to a dispute over financial issues.

Both Alkora and Preyfar (also known as The Dragoneer) have reportedly said that Alkora offered to sell Preyfar the site.
