Rocky Mountain Fur Con Masterpost and Visitor's Guide
Where: Denver Tech Center Mariott
When: August 7-9
Hey all, we've had a few posts about this in the past couple weeks. We're on the final countdown so master post it is as now's about the time to make those final plans. /u/ito if you would sticky this if even for a couple days, that would be awesome.
This is my first RMFC, but I actually work across the street (rather familiar with the area) so I wanted to make a master post not just to find the other furries here who are going, but to inform new visitors to this con of food places and more. The area is actually really swell for a con.
Otherwise, post here if you're going!
...
Map of the area, with the following spots marked
...
Places to get food:
Across the street is a Wendy's, like..literally across the street. Everyone goes there. Also in the area is a Mexican restaurant called Garcia's. Hit and miss with people, I love it a lot ok.
On Belleview Avenue (the major street next to the con) is a shopping center (primarily food) called Belleview Promenade. Starbucks, chipotle, noodles and company, pancake house among some other, more expensive locations.
Ulster Rd has a Panera. Chinese restaurant Blue Ocean is alright (pretty sure they deliver on con events?), other than that I haven't eaten much around there.
Opposite side of the highway is a mcdonalds and a taco bell for easy eats.
Also on opposite side of highway, on other side of Belleview is a large shopping center. Mostly pricey food, there's a sushi place called Hapa Sushi (their logo is a mech im not joking). It's also hit or miss, seems to be popular during con season.
Need con snacks? Take belleview east, you'll run into the local King Soopers (your average grocery store chain). It's a 5 minute drive tops. If you want to go the extra mile in con preparation, there's a Costco 15 minutes south on the highway.
...
Non-con activities:
But who cares about that right?
No but seriously. The hotel is right next to Belleview Station, a light rail station. Denver's light rail will get you just about anywhere. One stop north is Southmoor station, where you have easy access to a Regal movie theater, and food such as coldstone, smash burger, etc.
Getting downtown is super easy on light rail and fairly cheap.
If you have Wells Fargo, you're in luck, the bank is on the other side of the block.
...
What to wear? (Weather)
Honestly? No one even knows. Colorado weather is a crap shot. It's summer, dress for uncomfortable heat, but know it'll probably rain/thunder in the afternoon at least one of those days.
If you're not from the high altitudes, please drink your water before flying out, and please bring chapstick. Your lips will dry out stupid fast.
...
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are planning on walking to the other side of the highway for food (such as mcdonalds/taco bell), PLEASE take Union Ave. It runs right next to the con hotel.
Belleview Ave has a highway turnoff that is very heavy traffic, with a near-blind turn with no stop sign. I regularly see pedestrians jump to get out of the way of speeding drivers.
Please avoid this intersection, especially if you are suiting and have impaired vision.
Another note: thank you ringgar for reminding me, DTC is a business park, very clean and, uh...businessy. The area is fairly familiar with cons (we have a furry and anime con here) so the chain restaurants, ESPECIALLY McDonald's and Wendy's, are used to this. But it would probably be worth a check if they'll allow suits, just in case
