What A Long, Strange Yip It’s Been

In-Fur-Nation - Thu 10 Dec 2015 - 02:57

And yet another new animal fantasy series for young readers, this one starring (let’s face it) one of Furry Fandom’s favorite animals. Here’s what the publisher says: “The first book in a thrilling fantasy trilogy starring one of the animal kingdom’s most hunted heroes. Foxcraft is full of excitement and heart, and a touch of magic. Isla and her brother are two young foxes living just outside the lands of the furless — humans. The life of a fox is filled with dangers, but Isla has begun to learn mysterious skills meant to help her survive. Then the unthinkable happens. Returning to her den, Isla finds it set ablaze and surrounded by strange foxes, and her family is nowhere in sight. Forced to flee, she escapes into the cold, gray world of the furless. Now Isla must navigate this bewildering and deadly terrain, all while being hunted by a ruthless enemy. In order to survive, she will need to master the ancient arts of her kind — magical gifts of cunning known only to foxes. She must unravel the secrets of foxcraft.” Created by Inbali Iserles (also the author of The Tygrine Cat), Foxcraft: The Taken is available now at Amazon.

The significance of a fursona.

Furry Reddit - Thu 10 Dec 2015 - 02:03

There are many things that a fursona can be and mean to and for a person, and I would love to hear about you if you would. Like to write.

But first I thought I could take a moment to reflect upon what it means to me.

For me, my fursona is a husky with animated green sound waves on it. What it looks like is not important too much. But what I realised, is that when I described my character, its personality and hobbies, it is most definitely a representation of me.

My fursona is a representation of me, yeah, we have all heard that. But it is not everything about me. When describing my character, I made my character to be the best version of me. Not best in terms of the world and society, but my fursona is essentially the version of me I love the most. All of the traits I admire in myself and the hobbies I wish to keep forever.

So the other day, I was confused, and didn't know what to do when presented with conflict. Often times you will hear people talking about how at times like these, they think "what would Jesus do" or something like that. After think for a moment, I asked myself, what would I do?

Now I know I am not my fursona, we all have flaws. But at the same time, I am. Of course even my fursona has flaws. It has my flaws. But in defining myself, even as a husky, I have come to admire myself, and there should be nothing wrong with that.

A little help: seeking answers from furries

Furry Reddit - Wed 9 Dec 2015 - 21:31

Hi there. I do not consider myself a furry, but I feel some sort of connection to furries and I was wondering if anyone would help me to identify what this connection I am feeling is.

So lets kind of get started. Fisrt, I want to tell you a little bit about what I like and dislike or dont care about just so that you would have an idea of where I am coming from when I ask my question.

I do like the idea of anthropomorphic animals. I like the more feral side of it though. And I think that some art of furrysonas are cool. I like the cute pictures and stuff. I'm sure that you've seen the "Zootopia" teaser by now, I did quite enjoy that. (Although I generally enjoy animation.) I love pokemon a ton.

I don't really like role play and I've noticed that a lot of furries do that. (Or so, it seems that way to me. I'm more of an outsider and don't really keep tabs on furries and what you all do all the time.) I do not really like the really muscular looking animals and that kind of thing. I don't really enjoy really humanized looking animals I guess.

Ok, so, here is what I am struggling with. I almost kind of feel like a furry, but at the same time, I really don't. I am just unsure if I really am or not. I do not associate myself with an animal and do not think of myself as any animal. I am not too interested in fur suits or anything. And deep down, I find it hard to accept that. I would have a hard time calling myself a furry. It would feel like I am stepping against a strong current of water to call myself a furry. Part of me wants to kind of just jump in and join the ranks. But the other part of me is holding me back, just allowing myself to watch at a distance.

I'm not sure if I am just rambling, but I guess, has anyone else experienced this and how did you deal with it? (I mean, not like, what was the end result, but also how did you get to that end-result?)

What would your Daemon be?

Furry Reddit - Wed 9 Dec 2015 - 18:32

If you had a daemon, the animal-shaped companion souls in Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series...

  • What do you think it would be?
  • What would you want it to be?
  • What kind of personality would it have?

If the first two would be the same thing for you (not a given), that's OK.

Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%A6mon_%28His_Dark_Materials%29

Dæmons are the external physical manifestation of a person's 'inner-self' that takes the form of an animal. Dæmons have human intelligence, are capable of human speech—regardless of the form they take—and usually behave as though they are independent of their humans. Pre-pubescent children's dæmons can change form voluntarily, almost instantaneously, to become any creature, real or imaginary. During their adolescence a person's dæmon undergoes "settling", an event in which that person's dæmon permanently and involuntarily assumes the form of the animal which the person most resembles in character.

Lyra's daemon Pantalaimon is most often an ermine, a wildcat, or a mouse... and when he settles he becomes a pine marten. Other characters daemons I recall are a monkey, a rabbits, and a dolphin (which has to be inconvenient, since separating a human and a daemon is painful... the human in that case must have to stay on a boat or within a short distance of the shore).
