I really want to take commissions. What should I do?

Furry Reddit - Mon 14 Dec 2015 - 09:41

Hello /r/furry!

I've been drawing for some years but have only recently been posting my art online. (Here's my art, a lot of it is fat stuff) I've had many people have asked me if I take commissions, and I'd like to open up.

I don't have a credit card, but I was told that I don't need one in order to use Paypal.

As someone who has never done this before, what should I do?

What security precautions should I make before taking commissions (if any)?

How should I set my prices?

Do you have any general advice for a beginner?

Is this even a good idea?

Some troubles making furry friends...advice?

Furry Reddit - Mon 14 Dec 2015 - 07:55

I recently lost my best friend, and thus have been forced to try to make new friends for the first time in a long time. Unfortunately, I've run into some troubles and am getting very sad and frustrated. It might just be that it seems like none of them could ever compare to the friend I've lost and my expectations are too high...but I'll try to list some of my frustrations I have and see if anyone can give advice.

I realize some of these might be unreasonable...if so, hopefully this can help me understand that.

1) Sometimes I come across someone's FA profile who looks nice, someone I'd potentially want to be friends with, but...I'm not really sure how to go about it. Usually I comment on a submission of theirs, then send them a note introducing myself, and inviting them to check out my the profile info on page if they'd like. More often than not, this seems to result in a lukewarm reply, if any.

2) Once communicating with someone through notes or something on FA or reddit...how to suggest adding them to skype? I've had several people "disappear" on me after inviting them to add me to skype perhaps too early...but how can you truly get to know and make friends with someone if you're only corresponding once a day or less? There are even some people who say they "don't have skype," which is incredibly frustrating to me...that just doesn't seem like, in the 2015 furry community, that such a thing should occur.

3) Once I am talking to someone on skype, a lot of times I feel like I'm the one always having to message them first, and keep conversations going. I know that there are generally "lame people" who only give one-word answers and they're not generally worth making friends with...but even some genuinely nice people I've met will sometimes respond to something with just a "Yeah!" or "xD" and the conversation just dies there, unless I bring up a new topic. And most people, I have to message them first all the time, and it generally leads me to feel down and unwanted and makes me wonder if I'm a burden to them, even if they are nice and conversational after I do say hi each time.

4) On the same note, a lot of people seem distracted, 100% of the time, when I'm trying to chat with them. Replies that take 5-15 minutes on average and when I ask "are you up to anything?" they're always watching a show, or something. Sometimes I wish people would just sit down and talk and give you their attention...

There's probably more, but that's a good start...am I doing something wrong? I just wish I had an easier time making some good friends...

The Passion of the Wolf

In-Fur-Nation - Mon 14 Dec 2015 - 02:59

Another one from 2014 that passed us by — but this one definitely not for young readers! Werewolf Nights is the first novel from Mari Hamill. From the official web site, here’s the summary: “Threatened by financial ruin, widowed bakery owner Catherine Mercy leads a solitary life with more interest in reading about werewolf lore than in finding a man. Her one true love disappeared after high school and her now deceased husband kept her trapped in the house claiming that a werewolf might hunt her down one day, just as her grandmother repeatedly warned her. When Hollywood interrupts the town’s monotony by shooting a werewolf movie on location, Catherine decides to audition. Already in her thirties, she feels ridiculous trying to become an actress, but lands the leading role. Catherine’s daily routine turns into a hair-raising adventure as fame begins to monitor her wonderings and she falls for her sexy costar Greg Byron, in spite of the actor’s neon warning sign that flashes conceited womanizer. Just when romance sparkles, a wolf bites Greg. While Greg’s features turn lupine, Cathrine discovers a resemblance between the movie script and her family’s history. Afraid, Catherine recruits werewolf expert Steve to figure out if the film’s werewolf legend is real and Wolfern, the werewolf her grandmother spoke about, has finally come for her. If it is, Greg will turn into a dangerous werewolf. Only finding a way to undo Greg’s curse and destroying Wolfern before the next full moon can save their love and their lives.” Got all that? Werewolf Nights is available in paperback from Dog Ear Publishing. Funny that.

Couple of questions, Very new to the furry scene.

Furry Reddit - Sun 13 Dec 2015 - 23:02

Hello, my name is Tyler. So I just recently figured out that I am a furry but, I just didnt know what I wanted out of it. I do not have any real friends that I hang around with so I just figured I would try to post things here to feel more open about myself. I am not a very good artist at all, so my first question would be, how would I go about getting art done by others? I am fairly sure that a vulpine is going to be my fursona but, I do not know what else I would need in order to have a full picture done. My second question is, how do people react to the whole furry thing? My biggest fear is not being accepted by my family. Mainly because I feel that they can be very judgmental. I fear that they might misunderstand it as "gay". I personaly do not care what or who someone is and, always keep an open mind. I just do not want to be cast out from the family. And lastly, just for something to keep with me in my car and on long trips, who could I talk to to get a stuffed animal that looks like my fursona?

Thanks, Tyler

Taking commissions for the first time!

Furry Reddit - Sun 13 Dec 2015 - 19:09

I've been wanting to do this for months, but I've hardly had any confidence until now. takes a deep breath

So, this is really a test on interest. I really hope it's okay ;w;

http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7241315/

It's two shaded fullbodies for 1USD. There are 3 slots, but I'll definitely open more if demanded. Wanted to start out small. I'm also kind of... unpopular... but hey! We all start out somewhere right?

The examples listed are a little old except this one.
