Weird wasp dude - AMA

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 13:05

I've seen a few people doing these, so I figured that since I've been an on-off, mostly commenter on /r/furry for a good while now, I'd do one of these, because why not?

A few points about me to get you started:

  • I'm from Liverpool, in the UK, and I grew up in the same neighbourhood as most of the Beatles. This probably helps to explain a few other things about me
  • I'm an invertebrate zoology student
  • I turn 26 next month, and I've been in the fandom since 2003-2004
  • My fursona is a wasp
  • I keep a few hives of bees as a hobby
  • I'm a Buddhist

So yeah, use the above as a basis to ask me whatever or just think of your own thing to ask. :D

Yet Another Late Introduction Thread

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 11:10

Hey guys, been around a while now since I stopped lurking. A few months ago I joined this subreddit and started participating, but I never actually really introduced myself and I'm trying to end the year strong so this is just one more thing I wanted to do.

So about me, currently junior in college, Geophysics major. Always been a big fan of Earth Sciences and fancy myself a bit of an explorer (Hiking and discovering cool places in nature), but after passing Calculus 2 with just barely above a C- (literally had the lowest passing score in the class) I realized Meteorology was not for me, and dropped into a less calculus intensive major which unfortunately means an extra 2 semesters. I don't know what I want to do with my life (does anyone?), but I do know that at some point I want to become a science teacher. People like Vsauce, Bill Nye, and the guys at Crash course are my heroes and I hope I can be as cool as they are if I ever get to teach.

I've always been a big fan of anthropomorphism. Games like Sly Cooper, Spyro, and Pokemon made up most of my gaming childhood. I generally say though that the game that brought me over to the fluffy side was Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2.

I struggle a lot with depression, mostly being emotionally numb (I'm actually lucky that it somehow doesn't seriously affect my productivity like it does a lot of other people). I often have trouble connecting with other people, my childhood was a bit unstable which made long-term friends a luxury I couldn't have. But I'm getting help, and I'm hoping finally taking up drawing classes at college will give me somewhat of an outlet, because college is a lot of delayed gratification and most of the classes don't give you anything tangible to look at after a hard day of work to point at and say "Look at that, I made that." Besides, if I could spend 3000 hours over 3 years in Dota 2 I could certainly learn to draw in the same time period.

Once my drawing skills are good enough to the point where I feel I can do content submission, I think I'm going to do a lot of video game and music themed stuff. I want to draw a lot of music (if that makes sense) and my sona-in-progress is probably going to have a music theme. Like the old saying goes, the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago, the second best time is now.

Anyways, to wrap it up. I seem negative a lot (hence the name) because I kind of am. It seems a bit out of place in the community a lot, but I don't feel like I don't belong. You sometimes see me joke around that you guys are so sweet you give me diabetes, but to be honest no matter if I say it annoys me, I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

Ugh. All my idols are going to start to die, I think...

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 09:57

With the death of Lemmy, I kinda started thinking. Ozzy Osbourne is only a few years younger, and he's had a life similar, with the same huge amounts of drugs and alcohol...

My grandparents are already older, they are going to die soon.

David Bowie is freaking 68 years old, I don't want that beautiful man to die. D: Samuel L Jackson. Sure, Gordon Ramsay is only about 50... But that's still freaking old. x_x

I just don't like this, at all. Thank you for listening.

What is your fursona's breaking sentence?

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 09:03

A breaking sentence is a sentence, that when a character hears it being told to him, it will utterly break him emotionally. Think of the intensity of breaking as in breaking the internet. In other words, what upon-told sentence is your sona's ultimate weakness?

And if it's in a different language, translate it.

[Advice Needed] Furry Dating Sites?

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 07:40

I've found FurFling, but free members don't get to message people on there, and that isn't convenient for me even remotely? Is this normal? Are there any that don't do that?

You can probably tell that I'm new to the whole dating site thing. I need some help with this.

Grassland Dragon AMA

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 05:55

Since it seems Grassland isn't as common as I thought, I'll answer your questions. Anything lewd won't get a straight answer though.

Down votes away!

I have five years since I became a furry [story]

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 03:59

First of all... MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Or just, happy holidays!

Short story! On December 27th of 2010, I used my brand new minilaptop to surf the internet... I was into The Simpsons back then, so during a web search for content of the show, I stumbled upon a site with some interesting imagery of animals with human characteristics, and it immediately fell in love with the concept! 14-year old me was intrigued and also captivated by these animals with human qualities! So I spent my whole night looking up what that thing was, to learn that it was called "furry"

That same night, I discovered DeviantArt, and really good artists there too.

By December 28th, during the daytime, I was already thinking about drawing, and creating a fursona! That night, at 7:28PM, I finished my first furry drawing... A fan art piece for the artist that made me decide to become a furry thanks to her beautiful drawings. My first step to become a furry artist.

Five years later, I've met lots of wonderful people. Developed a skill that definitely helped me during hard times and that I'm glad I picked up (drawing). Discovered a great community that I'm happy to be part of.

Happy fifth furry birthday to me, and wishing for many more!

  • if interested, you can see my kinda outdated Imgur gallery (beware nsfw content though), or my tumblr. I'd link my DeviantArt if I weren't so embarrassed of its old content haha

Mysteries for Kids… with Rodents.

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 02:58

Furries have been teaching children to read for generations. Carrying on that tradition is a new series of second-level easy-readers for kids called Hamster Holmes. “Hamster Holmes and his firefly sidekick, Dr. Watt, solve mysteries together in this start to a Level 2 Ready-to-Read series! Hamster Holmes and Dr. Watt are the best sleuths in town! So when their friend Corny O’Squirrel has a mystery he needs help solving, he knows just who to turn to. Every night, Corny is woken up by someone knocking on his door—but when he goes to answer, no one is there! Can Hamster Holmes and Dr. Watt catch the culprit?” The series was created by Albin Sadar, who also co-wrote and produced a video for kids called The Chartreuse Goose. It’s illustrated by Valerio Fabbretti, who has illustrated children books and comic books in the US and in Italy. Hamster Holmes: A Mystery Comes Knocking and other books in the series are published by Simon & Schuster — and of course you can find out more at their web site.

Need help finding a web comic

Furry Reddit - Tue 29 Dec 2015 - 01:24

I've been searching for this specific web comic for a long time now and its caused annoyance. Basically I don't have much information on it except that it was like a slice of life/paranormal comic about this female fur who moved into a new apartment that was haunted by two friendly ghosts (one was just a floating canine skull). It was in a black and white (inked?) style, does anyone have any ideas?
