Dead by Daylight Introduces "Cursed Cats" Collection of Outfits

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Fri 13 Oct 2023 - 07:19

The team over at Behaviour Interactive brings something a little feline over to their asymetric horror game Dead by Daylight this Halloween season with their "Cursed Cats" Collection of outfits for The Hillbilly, The Clown, The Blight, and The Trickster. There's also a set of clothing items featuring dogs and cats for Jake Park, Haddie Kaur, Vittorio Toscano, Jonah Vasquez, Yun-Jin Lee, and Kate Denson.

“The latest additions to our Collection featuring some of our favourite animal friends!” says Kirby Taylor, Dead by Daylight’s Live Operations Specialist. “These designs are always enjoyable to work on, and we have many meetings admiring the cute patterns for these Cosmetics. And yes -- we still do track whether Cats or Dogs sell better... One of the most requested styles of horror we’ve seen over the past year has been for monster horror, so we cooked up something truly cat-astrophic for you. The team had a lot of fun designing these, especially all the little details on the weapons. If the player reception is positive, we’ve already got a few ideas for more monster horror in the future.”

That’s Some Great Pumpkins

In-Fur-Nation - Thu 12 Oct 2023 - 01:59

As we noted before, filmmaker John Carpenter’s Storm Kids comic imprint has some good Furry stuff now and then — and Halloween seems to be a favorite time for it. Well here’s a new one we came across thanks to Previews: The Yard Gang Halloween Special. “Lucy the kitten loves Halloween almost as much as her stuffed Woof-Woof or her little brother Yob. But as she and her very eccentric animal family prepare to celebrate their favorite holiday, they discover this is no ordinary Halloween. A full moon is coming, bringing something completely unexpected to the desert ranch where they all live. On this All Hallows’ Eve, Lucy, Yob, and the entire Yard Gang must go in search of their Halloween Spirit!” It’s written by Steve Niles and Monica Richards, illustrated by Sian Mandrake and Kelly Williams, and available now from Storm King.

Gotta See ’em All

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 10 Oct 2023 - 00:52

We came across an article at The Nerdist about the artist Joshua Dunlop. He’s been working on a project he calls Pokemon Zoology, trying to create realistic portrayals of what various well-known pokemon might look like out here in this world. To that end he’s set up a Kickstarter campaign — which has already surpassed its goal, even though it’s running through the end of this month. “My name is Joshua Dunlop; I’m a Senior Freelance Concept Artist from the UK. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing companies such as Disney and Netflix, and I’ve had amazing success over the last 7 years with my personal project, Pokemon Zoology! And now I’m thrilled to present this unofficial collection of 151 realistic digital concept art pieces depicting the iconic original Pokemon from Generation 1.” Looks like it’ll be available in hardcover real soon.

Article Content Introduction

Even if you are new to the furry fandom you are likely super aware of the number of LGBTQ+ members of the community there are. Part of what makes the furry community so appealing to LGBTQ+ people is how accepting and generally left-leaning they are. Irrespective of gender, race, sexuality, or neurodivergence, the furry fandom accepts everyone with open arms, just as they would like to be accepted. So with that, it’s not too surprising that there is a very large gay furry art sub-community that is constantly buzzing, considering how much furry art content is out there

What Is Bara?

BARA was an image board specifically designed for users to post images of muscular men. So, as you can imagine, BARA furry art is pictures of muscular male fursonas and furry characters. The board was originally a small but active community with four different categories that users could post under: Real, Drawn, Furry, and Alternate. As well as this the board contained what is known as an Oekaki board which was essentially a place for users to chat. Most conversations revolved around gay culture, anime, video games, and other general non-porn interests.

    Example of Normal Bara Art

Where Does The Word Come From?

However, despite the word Bara being popularised by the image board, its use predates the site. The word bara became a colloquialism in Japan around the 1960s for a genre of Japanese art that depicted same-sex love. It would go on to become known in Japan as gay manga. It was made primarily by gay men for gay men. It would usually depict very big, masculine men as the protagonists of its stories, and while the subject material is more often than not pornographic there are romantic and autobiographical exceptions

Despite all of this, the use of the word Bara (which directly translates to rose in Japanese) to describe all gay Japanese manga is something that was coined more by the Western world. In non-Japanese contexts, it’s used to describe any sort of Japanese media depicting homo-erotic relationships but Japanese gay manga artists would argue that bara is characterized by the masculinity of its characters as well as the nature of the art. The popularization of its use outside of Japan likely came from the image board of the same name that was created in the 90s.

From fursuit commissions to art commissions, Fursonafy has your back "They where extremely understanding and patient. They provided fast response times and amazing communication" Edward

Those of you eagle-eyed readers may have noticed that we made no mention at all of furries at all in the etymology of the word bara so what gives? Well, this is because bara furry art, or gay furry art that depicts masculine characters, likely gained a lot of traction around the same time that the internet was picking up speed. So, the term actually pre-dates the internet era of the furry fandom by about 30 years. However, once the BARA image board was created the two worlds collided and almost became synonymous with each other ever since.

How Is It Different To Yaoi?

For those of you that are deep in the gay manga rabbit hole though, you might be wondering what the difference is between bara and yaoi as they seem to both be terms for gay manga. While the difference is a little subtle there is a difference. Bara is traditionally made by gay men for gay men, using the aforementioned masculine, muscular characters. Yaoi on the other hand was traditionally made for women, depicting more effeminate and skinny men. While it may not sound like a huge difference there are entire communities dedicated to each sub-genre respectively. Floating around in the same circle of Yaoi you will often hear terms like “femboy” or “twink” used to describe the character they portray which are typically more feminine presenting men. ts, and feelings of all those belonging to these communities, especially if you wish to find quality content.

Where Can I Find Bara Furry Art?

There is no shortage of bara furry art in the Wild West that is the internet so we’ve compiled a list of a few of the best places you can find some of it.

Deviant Art: Like any sort of digital art, one of the best places you can find it out there is Deviant Art. This site is already home to thousands upon thousands of furry artists let alone the millions of artists outside of the furry fandom that upload to it. Artists like Smuggles and Muscular Fox Man seem to specialize in bara furry art, so you should have no trouble finding any of it here.

Pinterest: Pinterest is especially great when looking for art under a specific niche as people make random image boards all the time. Not to mention, when you select a specific image on Pinterest they are very good at showing you images similar to the one you selected so you can dive straight down the rabbit hole.

Furaffinity: If you are looking for any sort of furry art, checking furaffinity is a complete no-brainer. This site is home to pretty much all furry art and furry artists. As the name suggests, Fur Affinity is a site designed specifically for furry artists to upload their work, whether it just be to share or to promote a service. So, as you can imagine, with such a large bank of furry art, there is a great wealth of bara furry art that you can find here with little to no effort.

Instagram: Believe it or not, the furry art community is actually thriving on Instagram if you just know where to look. Just look under hashtags that have anything to do with furry art or muscly furries and you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for. The only issue with Instagram is how quickly they will crack down on NSFW posts and how easily the line between NSFW and SFW art can be blurred.

Twitter/X: So, if you’re looking for a social media platform where the rules on what you can upload aren’t as strict then Twitter is probably the place for you. When it comes to pornographic content, Twitter is pretty lenient with what you can get away with, so there’s a whole world of bara furry content that you can find there.

Where Can I Commission Bara Furry Art?

If you’re more interested in getting some bara furry art of your own made rather than just looking at other people’s work, there are plenty of places you can find it. Lucky for you, we’ve compiled yet another list of the best places to commission your very own bara furry art.

MyFurryArt: One of the safest and easiest places to commission any sort of furry art, MyFurryArt is a great option if you’re looking to commission bara furry art. For an additional cost, they offer lewd/NSFW artwork which is a service that a lot of furry artists aren’t comfortable offering.

Fursonafy: Yes we are resorting to the shameless self-plug but we also offer NSFW furry art if that is something that you’re looking for. For the most part, we make anything your brain can conjure up, even if that is bara furry art. So, if you’re struggling to find a place to get it affordably, for no additional cost look no further.

Social Media Commissions: A great place to find independent furry artists would be social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter/X. These platforms are amazing for both artists to share their portfolios and customers to browse them. Also, social media allows artists to bypass pesky listing or service fees that customers would otherwise have to pay as well as commissions taken by freelancing platforms like Fiverr or Upwork.

      She’s Not From Kansas

      In-Fur-Nation - Fri 6 Oct 2023 - 01:41

Found this thanks to our friends at Animation World Network: “Jellyfish Pictures’ kids and family content division, Jellyfish Originals, has acquired rights to adapt Dermot O’Leary’s book series Toto the Ninja Cat into an animated series. The book series, illustrated by Nick East, is inspired by Dermot’s own cats. The show will be based on Toto, a partially sighted cat with razor-sharp senses, a nose for danger and a crime-busting spirit of adventure, incorporating themes of friendship, inclusivity, and winning in the face of adversity.” No word yet on when and where we’ll see it, as production has only just begun.

Anything Can Happen — and It Usually Does

      In-Fur-Nation - Wed 4 Oct 2023 - 01:58

Gustav and Henri is a new graphic novel series for younger readers, written by Andy Matthews and illustrated by Peader Thomas. The first paperback volume is called Space Time Cake! No really. “Gustav is a goofy, optimistic and naively enthusiastic pig. Henri is a grounded, pragmatic and quietly sceptical dog. They are as drawn to each other as they are to the weird and ridiculous. Which is a lot. Whether it’s venturing into space to find a lost shuttlecock, or shrinking to the size of microbes to fight a cold, Gustav and Henri are always up for a madcap adventure, so long as they have each other.” Check out their web site too.

      FWG Monthly Newsletter October 2023

      Furry Writers' Guild - Sun 1 Oct 2023 - 19:42

It’s that time of year! Furry Book Month is here, where we celebrate the wonderful skill and talent on show within the furry writing community. We have a few things planned that we hope will uplift furry writing and give new readers the chance to explore the wonderful worlds our writers have to share.

We encourage every writer – and reader – of furry fiction to share your experiences on social media with the #FurryBookMonth hashtag so we can get some visibility on the best of our community. Is there a book you read recently that you loved? A new release or an old favourite? Share it with everyone! Are you an author with something new and exciting, or a promotional sale? Share that too!

For this month, let’s get the conversations happening around furry fiction.

To help get things started, we have two book bundles this year for you to enjoy. Like last year, we have a general bundle with 9 books by our members, but this year we have also added an 18+ bundle with titles of a spicier persuasion. They are both available on Gumroad at a pay-what-you-want (minimum purchases US$10 and US$7 respectively), with all proceeds being split evenly with each contributing author and the FWG.

You can pick up the General bundle here: https://furrywritersguild.gumroad.com/l/FurryBookMonthBundle
      It features books from:

Tales of Feathers and Flame – John Bailey
      The Fifth – Saylor Ferguson
      A New Life – B. Kozer
Horizon: Salvaged Heroes – Joel Kreissman
      Throwback – Frances Pauli
Aces High – J. Daniel Phillips
The Dragon’s Paladin – Justin Lee
Gryphon Insurrection Boxset 1 – K. Vale Nagle
Lost Inside the Blue Line – Herr Wozzeck

You can pick up the 18+ bundle here: https://furrywritersguild.gumroad.com/l/FurryBookMonthBundle18
      It features books from:

      Bringing Down Upworld – Kandrel
      Harmony – Flash Kitterson
Edax Sapiens – Kadon L. Peterson
Gods For The Machines – Morpheuskibbe
      Royal Red – K.C. Shaw
      CCS – Tagenar

We hope you’ll check out these great bundles for a fantastic price. They will be available for the duration of Furry Book Month!

      Oxurred Comma

Oxfurred Comma was created to fill the gap left behind by in-person conventions when the pandemic started to create lockdowns. When those conventions started to return, the consensus was to continue Oxfurred Comma – both to provide an outlet for those who felt unsafe returning to the physical conventions, but also to give furry writers a space of their own.

The last two years have definitely seen that interest remain in running this online convention. That interest appears to have dwindled for 2023.

The last opportunity to organise the Oxfurred Comma panels has now been and gone, and there simply have not been enough panel submissions to create any meaningful schedule.

As such, Oxfurred Comma will not take place this year.

I will discuss what has changed and what we can learn from this with the FWG staff, and we will then open things up to the membership base as a whole to determine whether we will make another attempt in 2024, or if we will consider the needs and desires for the convention to have faded.

Please not that, as it was always a part of the convention, the flash fiction contest will also not take place this year.

Thank you to those of you who did submit an entry to the flash fiction contest or a panel. With conversations to come over the next few months, we will share our plans for what role Oxfurred Comma may play in the future.

But Furry Book Month isn’t about dwelling on bad news! We have plenty of exciting things to come over the next month, and that includes anthology calls! There are a couple of new ones that have opened recently, so have a look through the list and see what options there may be for you.

MOOBARKFLUFF! Click here to send us a comment or message about the show!

Things have gone terribly wrong! Bearly is missing in action and Rayne and Taebyn are left to their own devices. We take a trip to the Transfurmation Station, talk of the Past Today, hear some Stupid News, catch up with the Media that we've been consuming, learn about some Furries in the News, Rayne reads the story of Little Ty Cooney and the Big Yosemite Race (yes as a matter of fact Rayne can read), play some Trivia, and generally get lost in a sea of bad jokes.

This podcast contains adult language and adult topics. It is rated M for Mature. Listener discretion is advised.

Thanks to all our listeners and to our staff: Bearly Normal, Rayne Raccoon, Taebyn, Cheetaro, TickTock, and Ziggy the Meme Weasel.

      A Prehistoric Classic Returns

      In-Fur-Nation - Sat 30 Sep 2023 - 01:57

That title could be taken several ways, actually! Nervous Rex, written and illustrated by William Van Horn, first hit the stands more than 37 years ago. Van Horn would go on to work for Disney as an animator, but what really put them on the map was taking over the Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comic book lines. Now, It’s Alive Comics have reprinted the original Nervous Rex collection with Van Horn’s original cover. “Mild-mannered tyrannosaur Rexford doesn’t really fit in with the Jurassic age, as he’d rather just eat oatmeal and hang out with his friends. His wife Dearie is always after him to be a more aggressive meat-eater and add to the fossil record.” Take a look at Previews.

      Welcome to Gaming Furever! Again!

      Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Sat 30 Sep 2023 - 01:35

Welcome one and all to the newly relaunched Gaming Furever!

Some of you may remember GF! We first launched in 2011 as a place where furries and anthro video game enthusiasts could come together to discuss current happenings, get the latest gaming news for games featuring furries of all sorts, and to host a database of every type of game featuring animal anthros (or games where you play as an animal.) We grew over the next 10 years to host an incredibly talented group of volunteer staff and writers who streamed a bevy of games, published quality editorials and reviews only found on GF, and facilitated many new friendships for visitors to the site and community.

In the late 2010s, life for me, as the head of the site, was in flux and busier than ever. It became hard to put as much of a focus on GF as it truly deserved, and maintaining the website in a secure manner became too much of a responsibility to keep it going. To top it off, 2020 was what it was for everyone, and it felt like a good time to go on a bit of a hiatus. Important word: hiatus!

Turning the page to 2022, and things started to steady out, in a good way for me IRL. I got a job that has me traveling a lot, but also kept sparking those treasured gaming memories from the times spent with GF members and staff. My wife and I moved to Texas and settled down, and we really bonded over the ability to play games together while apart, and enjoyed discussing and playing those games over voice with friends new and old. Something about those shared experiences over the past two years drove me to start developing Gaming Furever anew.

Now, we’ve arrived here, at a brand new, yet familiar place. We’ve slimmed down what GF was to these four focuses: Furry Game News, Furry Game Archive, Community, and Streaming. We want to be able to stick to weekly schedules that you can come to expect quality content from, while adding in an extra helping of fun on top of a welcoming atmosphere. Additionally, we want to be a site with a heart that beats to video gaming and all of its aspects that is accessible to those who consider themselves fully “furry” or those who just want to know what “we” think of games that feature our favorite anthros and animals. We hope to review, stream, and discuss all kinds of games that allow us to discover new ways of portraying furries and anthros and everything in-between! It’s an exciting prospect that we loved delivering on for all those years and can’t wait to do so again.

So! We hope you’ll join us here by registering for an account and getting involved, following us on our social media channels (links at the top and bottom of all pages), and by following our three stream team members for Uncivil Gamers. We will post all of our news articles, weekly furry game archive additions, and upcoming giveaways through streams on our Twitter/X and Facebook pages. If you find a bug or have a concern, please email us at gamingfurever(at)gmail.com

Happy Gaming, and welcome back to Gaming Furever, “A Different Breed of Gamers!”
