FWA Announces New Streamline Registration
Tiger Nick talks about their new system:
“This is the beauty of the new system. Same thing with registration. Attendees will only have to login next year, and pay online – not enter all their info.
OH! And because this is on the internet, you can do it from any computer, any smartphone, or terminals that we’ll have set up around the con.
We need to let everyone know that if they want, while their standing in line (or in their room) they can register and pay, so all they have to do is step up and pick up their badge.
Isn’t that awesome!? So tell everyone that this is the whole idea with the new system – MyFWA.com. We’ll also have the schedule, maps, area info, restaurants, and even be able to buy shirts and hoodies online! Then at the con, they don’t have to stand in line at the Con store to pay for a T-shirt. Go online, pay for it, go to the con store and pick it up. This will allow for people to secure their shirt and hoodie before they even get to the con.
This will change everything for FWA. PLEASE tell everyone!”

New Short Film: Furries – An Inside Look
Furries – An Inside Look from Curt Pehrson on Vimeo.
This documentary gives an inside perspective on the strange and interesting subculture known as the furry fandom. Filmed at Midwest Furfest 2010, a major furry convention, the fandom is explained by furries in their own words.
This project was both a personal and an academic undertaking. The concept and production was my own, but I also got college credit for producing it, as an independent study at Bradley University.

"The best lesson you can learn from this is to ask yourself a question: Have you ever found a newspaper article that accurately portrayed your profession or hobby? If not, then why assume their portrayal of other people's professions is at all accurate? Keep your baloney detectors turned to high and have fun!"
Summer Wars Comes To DVD… Here!
In case it passed you by: Summer Wars is a very popular and successful Japanese anime feature film conceived by Mamoru Hosoda, written by Satoko Okudera, and directed by Hosoda. It was produced by Madhouse, and released in 2009 by Warner Brothers Pictures Japan. The basics of the story: Kenji Koiso is a shy and awkward high school math-wiz, employed part-time as a sysop for a massive virtual world game called “Oz”. The first problem — Kenji is falsely implicated in hacking the game. But then he and his friends stumble upon a much bigger conspiracy at work… and he, they, and all of their avatars must work together to keep the real and virtual worlds from colliding destructively! Why should Furry Fans care about this? Check out some of the avatars in the picture below! That’s why! The good news is that an English-language version of the film has been completed for Blu-Ray and DVD release. Funimation Entertainment will be bringing the DVD/Blu-Ray edition to North America on February 15th, and Manga Entertainment will be releasing it in the U.K. in March.

Episode 7
Name: Lauren A.
Addiction: Wearing a fur suit
Lauren can’t imagine going to a party or social event without wearing her fur suit. She’s completely dedicated to her “fursona” — designing and sewing her costume well into the night, it even takes priority to finding a job.
FNN contacted Kiira to get her side of the story, This is the response she had. There is more forthcoming.
I’d love to get my side of the story out. I have left the fandom, though I still do make costumes and occasionally go out in it with my friends who are also furs. I just don’t associate myself as a furry anymore. But they totally twisted everything, I can just tell by the preview. I told them I only go out maybe once a month if that. I never bring it out around people that aren’t furs, and I never once brought it to a gathering or social event. Yet they say I can’t stand to be without it for one minute. I know my video will just provoke the community more, but I do need to get my side of the story out regardless. I’m glad there are still some people with common sense in this world.
Lauren Atkins aka Kiira
