Kilcodo Costumes has only been around for three years but in that time has created over 50 costumes as well as numerous custom-made fleece animal backpacks. Kilcodo is also available or 2D art commissions such as concept art and con badges. Costumes from this builder are notably cute, expressive and colorful. So here to satisfy your curiosities is Kilcodo of Kilcodo costumes.

Briefly describe your history in the furry fandom.
I was introduced to the fandom in 1997, actually by a local news stations’
report on FluffMuck. I had always been into anthropomorphism as a kid
growing up, but that was of course before I knew what furry was. I read a
lot of RedWall, invented fan characters and stuff like that. By 1999 I was
uploading art to a VCL account and meeting friends on mucks, and soon
enough I was selling artwork commissions, which enabled me the financial
freedom to travel to cons and purchase art supplies. 2005 was my first
convention, right after my eighteenth birthday. Things have pretty much
blown up since then!

When did you build your first costume and what was it?
I made my first costume in the spring of 2008. It was a goat, made with
the plastic-mesh method, which I now consider a really difficult technique
to use for a first-timer, and it was immensely frustrating. But by that
summer I had completed Roxie, my first balaclava-based fursuit, and I just
kept on going after that!

How many fursuits have you been paid to build?
I believe at this point it is at 56. I have pictures of all of them in the
gallery here (listed below).

What is your construction method of choice (i.e heads)?
I sew my own balaclava bases, made from breathable 90% cotton blend. Then
I use brand new high-density upholstery foam for the features, then all of
the seams on the face and other parts of the costume are machine-sewn with
the seams pinned so no fur gets caught in the seam. I airbrush the heads
for definition and transition from one color to another. I do a lot of
“follow-me” eyes on my heads as well as the typical two-dimensional
“toony” fursuit eye. Right now I am using resin casts for the teeth, and
working on resin casts for noses, claws and eyes also.

What is your average price range?
Heads start at $600, an average partial is $800, half-suits are $100 and
full-body fursuits are $1350. These are base prices and get a little more
expensive if the character is complicated or has lot of different
colors/markings.

Who was your favorite to build?
I have to say I’m really fond of the way Kobol Tiger turned out.

What makes you unique as a builder and why should people choose you?
I’ve been told that my fursuits embody my art style. I try really hard to
give my costumes a lot of character, and also to make sure that they are
very durable and well-made. I don’t use patterns for things like hair and
eyebrows, rather I make a totally new pattern each time, so each costume
has a different personality. I don’t cut corners in my construction and I
only use the highest quality materials, a *really* good sewing machine,
and lots of careful pinning and cutting. I also offer a 2-year warranty on
all costumes for repairs and updates.

The RBW boat party on the River Thames will not be happening in 2011, according to an announcement by Miyabi on the UKfur forums (registration required).

Reasons cited for the cancellation include prior staff commitments and a lack of boat availability on the desired dates.

RBW, once the UK’s largest furry convention, was cancelled early this year due to declining attendance. The boat party was originally intended to continue, and Miyabi has confirmed that staff still hope to put it on in 2012.

In the 1930′s wolves became extinct in France. Sixty years later, wild wolves crossed over the Alps from Italy into France. This group has since expanded to up to 200 individuals in 20 different packs. The wolves have spread to cover 15 out of 94 départements (map) reaching North to the Vosges in Lorraine and West to Cantal in Auvergne (map), and occupying the French Pyrenees for the first time in a century.

The presence of the wolves has caused considerable distress to French shepherds — particularly in the French Pyrenees, where they are forced to contend with a growing wolf population, along with a now-discontinued government plan to reintroduce brown bears.

The government reports 1329 animals killed by wolves in 2011 as of July 22, mostly sheep. Another source says there have been 66 wolf attacks, almost as many as in the entire period of 2010. Adding to the unhappiness are EU laws that prevent shooting the wolves without authorisation.

One alternative that has been suggested is the use of Patou dogs (also known as Great Pyrenees) which have historically been used to guard against wolves. This is also a controversial suggestion; some shepherds claim the dogs are worse than the wolves, as they can attack tourists. Cases have even been reported of anti-Patou shepherds poisoning the dogs.

Jean-Marc Moriceau, wolf expert and author, says that wolves will, at their current rate of progress, reach the forests 50 miles South of Paris in 10-15 years. Although the spread of the wolves is a welcome occurrence for environmentalists, it is likely to fuel more anger and friction between farmers and the wolves unless some sort of solution can be reached.

With the upcoming Muppets movie on the horizon, Disney has been exerting closer control once again over the Jim Henson properties… which means, among other things, that the various Muppet comic book series (many of them published by Boom! Studios) are now gone. So what did Disney do? Have new Muppet titles published by Marvel Comics of course — since they also own that! The Muppets Present: Family Reunion is a new full-color graphic novel, written and pencilled by Roger Langridge (creator of Get Snarked, which we also reviewed before). Once again it’s time for The Muppet Show, but this time there’s a new complication: Everyone has members of their family showing up for a visit, and every single one of them is trouble! Check it out this September.

I saw it while walking through a collage, it was on MTVU.

It featured a guy in a cat fursuit, and he was playing a cat who got a bunch of views on youtube, and then went onto talk shows and films, but ended up turning to porn and drugs, and then assaulted a fan

That's all I saw, before I had to go.

In a recent journal Dragoneer reported the ‘new’ furry convention, Furry Beach, to be a scam. Its advertising movie was made using clips from a variety of furcons and furmeets.

Since the announcement the convention’s website has gone offline and the fkandfriend’s deviantART account, linked to the convention’s PayPal account, has been deactivated.

13TheFurry also posted on YouTube that she had tried to find Furry Beach but had been unable and was reporting it as a possible scam and naming Thelpsgirl on YouTube and fkandfriends on deviantART as the scammers. Thelpsgirl, or someone claiming to be her, replied on Dragoneer’s journal that she was only passing on information of the con that she had got from YouTube user Sophiasummer16.

The convention – claimed to be in its third year – was said to be held in Oceanside, California, but included photos from Germany’s Eurofurence,Anthrocon, FurFright and private meets. The website also provided a list of registered attendees, all of whom were had fursuits. At real furry conventions, most attendees do not bring a fursuit; at large events, the proportion of fursuiters is around one in five.

Once again Animation Magazine released a special issue at Comic Con, and once again the issue (July/August) included the results of the annual Animation Magazine Pitch Party. Here new and upcoming animators are given a chance to “pitch” their ideas for a new animated TV series to a select group of industry executives from places like Adult Swim, The Hub, Cartoon Network, The Disney Channel, and so forth. They do so by creating a single panel comic that explains the concept of the show. Now some folks (like Cartoon Brew) have been questioning the value of the Pitch Party — as in, do folks actually get a real chance to have their shows produced in exchange for their entry fee?  Well, it must be popular to try, because people keep on submitting their entries every year. This time around, entries that furry fans might find interesting included Marco and Polo by Samantha Wheeldon (her web site is here), VA Team by Melissa Delamar (her web site), Duck & Monster by Base 14 (their blog), Kiko the Brave Little Bat (who has his own web site), Fireflyz by Don and Julie Farmer, A Cock Tale by Greg Bro (no, seriously — check out the web site), Yugo & Lala, Hydro Bull, Plunger Pup by Michael Grassia (yes, he has a web site too), Iron Bugs, and Spiny Life by Days View Animation.

The first of several discoveries at this year’s San Diego Comic Con: The Devastator is a digest-sized quarterly magazine of comedy and satire (for humans! they insist) whose writers and artists include folks who’ve worked on The Simpsons, The Daily Show, the Onion, and more. Every issue revolves around a theme, and the subject of issue #3 — just released — is cats. Good cats, bad cats, evil cats, romantic cats… and even cats served up as dinner for aliens. Seriously. The creators have uploaded a preview video to YouTube, or you can visit their web site to find out more. Flip the current zine over and you have the first few pages of a book called 400 Reasons to Get Married… To Your Cat!

Gene Colan (1926-2011) -- classic, longtime comicbook artist whose
chiaroscuro style favoured horror and noir more than superheroics,
though he still drew plenty of them, for both DC and Marvel, as well
as Howard the Duck.
Peter Falk (1927-2011) -- played the indefatigable, long-running TV
detective Columbo, an avuncular angel-turned-human-being in the art-

This month makes up for the last two: lots of interesting stuff, and,
furry aside, a lot of new publishers showing up. I hope both trends
hold up. There are still way too many zombies, though. Like Zombies
vs. Cheerleaders #4, 'Easily the greatest 21 letter titled comic in
history- that has zombies and cheerleaders!'

Bears. Stephen Colbert warned us about them, and now they are here. Invading our consoles. 

Microsoft has announced that "Kinectimals Now With Bears!" will be available this fall as a full disc release, and as DLC for existing game owners for $15.

The game will feature a brand new island to explore, a new host, and a ton of fuzzy bears to play with!
