Ultraduck Arrives

In-Fur-Nation - Mon 29 Aug 2011 - 01:53

For years we’ve been seeing sample art from the Ultraduck project showing up at San Diego Comic Con and other fannish events. Now, it seems, Arcana Studios will finally be publishing the new Ultraduck graphic novel this October. It’s written by Edgar Delgado, with full-color art by Omar Lozano and Humberto Ramos. Here’s the basic description from Amazon: “Carlos, a regular duck living in the great city of Featherbay, just got dumped by his girlfriend, his life as a freelance do-it-all is going nowhere, and he must make some grown up decisions: to get a real job, get his girl back, and stop drinking. That is, until he gets super powers and becomes the only duck in the world who can stop a powerful creature who’s destroying the city on a vengeful rampage, and an evil weapons manufacturing corporation who wants his abilities.” Just how “anthro” is this project? Check out the promo art!

Bucktown Tiger wins Fursuit Fracas

Furry News Network - Sun 28 Aug 2011 - 20:25

Author: Sonious

Bucktown Tiger‘s fans, who go by the name of Shopwreakers, have reason to celebrate.   The piano-playing fursuiter has become the first feline to win the Fandom’s Favorite Fursuit Fracas, vanquishing opponent Twitch Da Woof in one of the most highly contested finals the competition has witnessed. Both furry musicians were underdogs in their own right, and neither were expected to make it as far as they did.

In hopes of giving others a chance to shine, Twitch had announced his retirement from the fursuit tournament, taking this as a message to focus on his music and his works for his fans:

All said, I’m making this my last year competing. I beat a lot of people that deserved a spotlight and a chance to shine, and with all the people that came out of the woodwork to tell me they’re a fan of mine and supporting me? I can comfortably say I’m happy where I’m at and I feel like I’d be very unfair by continuing to run in the tourney. I want to see some more awesome performers come out and more than happy to step aside to give the FFFF spotlight to someone who can perform their ass off. Hope to see Clementine and Doryuu push their way to the top!

Bucktown also talked of the great fortune that both finalists were dedicated musicians, mentioning that he was happy to have a fellow performer in the finals. He hoped that the event would truly increase people’s appreciation for the musical arts in the fandom.

A few questions from an outsider....

Furry Reddit - Sun 28 Aug 2011 - 03:57

I call myself outsider beacuse it sounded cool.....anyway, i don't really consider myself a furry, but i like anthropomorphic art, mostly on the Sci-Fi Fantasy side, and i have few questions about the furry fandom that have been bugging me lately, mostly about the, ehem, "taboo" side of the fandom.

The side that is responsible for the furry stereotype...and other stuff that confuse me.

Thanks to HappyWulf (And Wikipedia and WikiFur) i have a much more clearer view of the fandom as a whole. Normal everyday people that like anthropomorphic art, may have a fursuit, go to cons, have relationships etc., and most important of all, very few are actually zoophiles. People with a good head on their shoulders, but i am still puzzled by the fandom.

In one moment i am told that the stereotype of the fandom is actually the minority and then apparently they are the majority here on r/furry, or so it would sem to me at least, and im confused. Ok, on with the questions.

  1. How accepting and tolerant is the furry fandom?

  2. How deep does zoophilia run in the fandom?

  3. Is the fandom really all that perverted as it seems to be? With all the porn and all?

  4. Why is it that, most of the time, whenever a furry does an IamA on reddit, it always ends badly? And it seems that most of the time the furries that do IamA's it's always those who can be called "furverts", why is that?

  5. Is the fandom more sexual than others, and if so, why?

So that's that, i'll ask some more when i think of them. Some solid information would be of great use, like articles and surveys, but personal opinion is awesome. Sorry if i angered any of you, i just ant to get a clearer picture of the fandom, thank you.

What's with "coming out" as a furry?

Furry Reddit - Sun 28 Aug 2011 - 03:43

Why do some (read: a lot of) furries feel that they need to "come out" as such, equating being a furry to being GLBT, or part of a minority religion? I can understand it to a degree, as I had a moment where I told my mother about my being a furry (received very well, by the way), but it wasn't this huge deal where I had sweaty palms and spilled out a speech I'd been preparing for a year.

It just feels like membership to a small niche of humanity has been built up to the same level as religion or sexual/gender identity in some peoples' minds, and I feel that isn't healthy. Why not be what you are, have fun, and selectively share with those who would be receptive. Who cares what everyone thinks about it? Why not just embrace the positive people and ignore the haters?

Animal Planet show in the works again?

Furries In The Media - Sat 27 Aug 2011 - 20:09
This is pretty tentative, but has anyone heard of Animal Planet working on something new? Some of the Furcast people mention it, and a couple of months ago there was a bit of a stir amongst the Otherkin.

SportyPup – Urgent Need – New Health Issues

Furry News Network - Sat 27 Aug 2011 - 16:27

Sporty and his son Koda

Back in February and March, we told you about SportyPup - Through February, March and April, we kept you updated on his condition as he battled with a failing heart due to a damaged heart valve.  The surgery was successful and as of late April, Sporty seemed to be doing very well – even feeling up to suiting at different Furry conventions.

In late July, we heard he was beginning to have health issues again.  Those issues have escalated and he has landed back in the hospital several times.  It seems the heart valve is fine, but there is damage to the rest of his heart, and he has suffered a stroke that has affected his left side, including his vision.

At this point, he is forced to walk away from his job – a business he built doing construction.  He’s dealing with heavy medical bills, but more urgent than the bills, is the care for his son Koda.

We’re asking everyone who can afford it to donate to Sporty – Part of the money will go to his medical treatment and part will go to a nest egg for his son in case anything happens to Sporty.

You can read all of SportyPup’s updates on his FA – SportyPup
