Anthrocon 2011 Roof Top Fursuit Dance Session

furryne.ws - Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 16:15
"One of the many epic moments to come out of Anthrocon 2011"

Editor's note: I find fursuiting kind of creepy. The dancing here is good though so it's worth the watch.

Room 366 or “How furries need to realize that sex and sexuality ACTUALLY EXIST."

furryne.ws - Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 16:10
So it seems that a fairly tame, especially by today’s standards, furry-made fursuit video has made it publicly onto the web. The video in question? Room 366...

Some furs are absolutely up in arms about it “destroying our image.” Others are happy it got leaked. And a lot of us are like “meh.”

For the most part I’m glad this was publicized. In all honesty that “squeeky clean” image of furry needs to go. Everyone knows what exists beneath the fuzzy coat of furry, and its not innocent. And no, its not everyone either. Some furs are genuinely squeeky clean themselves. For the most part tho the majority of furs have SOME sort of sexualization towards their interests. I mean COME ON look at what some of the most popular images, videos, and suits are… Sexy. We are human after all, and sex is a innate part of our psychological makeup. The groups of “furry police” that try to shield everyone from things like this are just doing a disservice to the fandom. Saying “Oh no theres no sexual/kink/fetish component to furry, its just a bunch of creative people coming together for sheer camaraderie.” BULL. SHIT. All that does is shield the public from something that is there and they would eventually get used to.

Editor's note: GET OUT OF YOUR FUCKING FURSUIT AND GET A LIFE.

The OzFurry YiffChart? Project

furryne.ws - Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 15:13
WTF?

You've probably just had this URL dumped on you from an IRC channel, and are wondering what the hell it is. This project started as a joke about how incestuous the Australian furry community is.. and it just went downhill from there.

The graph is primarily created to show the nature of X-slept-with-Y events in the furry community in Australia, and is complete to the best of our knowledge. The names have been excluded on purpose to protect people's privacy, and to prevent people digging up any sort of inaccuracies in the data :)

Furry phenomenon flumoxxes and fascinates

Furry News Network - Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 13:28

It’s rough to be a furry.

Defined as fans of anthropomorphic animal art and sometimes wearing animal ears, tails or suits, furries have a hard time finding acceptance from other geeks, let alone pop culture. On network television shows like CSI: Miami, 30 Rock and Entourage, furries are depicted as sexual deviants, giving them a reputation that keeps other groups away.

However, to documentarian Tommy Bruce, this is exactly what makes the group endearing. As an out gay man, Bruce sees parallels in the furry and LGBT communities. Both groups, he said, are based on a sometimes misunderstood self identity.

“Being gay is a part of your personality you have the choice to tell other people about or keep hidden. It’s the same way with furries,” he said.

While heterosexuality is the accepted norm in most geek fandom, Bruce said furries are more accepting. Even if there are no more LGBT people in furry fandom than everywhere else, furry fandom permits members to talk frankly and openly about diverse sexualities.

Does anyone here have any furry related tattoos? And what are your thoughts on them?

Furry Reddit - Sun 25 Sep 2011 - 09:35

Any regrets? And pictures would be awesome, assuming sfw.

I've been thinking about getting a small pawprint above the ankle and wanted to hear some of your thoughts.

Thanks!

Furry Art Theft in a Modern Art Museum

Furry Reddit - Sat 24 Sep 2011 - 22:24

Saw something furry hanging at the Tampa Museum of Modern Art..

http://www.beardandbrush.com/2011/05/matt-jones-multiverse-at-freight-volume.html

I immediately recognized it as being from Kelly Hamilton's How to Draw Facial Expressions...

http://www.drawfurry.com/?p=31

Hanging in a modern art museum! If this isn't art theft I don't know what it is...

EDIT: If anyone knows or has direct contact information with Kelly if they could clue her onto the existence of this thread it would be most helpful. I have not been able to find any direct contact info save for web forms from her various sites.

“The Guild” Fursuiter Revealed

Furry News Network - Sat 24 Sep 2011 - 15:44

SPOILER ALERT

If you’ve been following this season of  The Guild – an online Situation/Drama/Comedy that revolves around the lives of a group of gamers as they interact online and in person, you will have noticed a mysterious brown Canine fursuit stalking one of the characters.

In the first few minutes of the new episode, the mystery fursuiter is revealed as WIL WHEATON.  Wil Wheaton, former child star from Star Trek: The Next Generation, geek blogger and now adult geek star (currently appearing in Eureka on SyFy) has had an at-times very vocal disdain for the Furry Fandom and fursuiters in particular, stemming from an incident at a convention where a fursuiter violated his personal space in an unwanted way.

In 2007, during the internet media hype over the “Furries vs Klingon” bowling event held in Atlanta,  I had a long email exchange with him about his vocal dislike of furries, and at the time, it seemed that he was not up for giving the fandom a chance to redeem its self.   In 2008, an article he wrote circulated where he again stated his dislike for furries, as we were “weirdos”.  Clips of the post also ended up on his own blog where he had an exchange with several people over it, including Matthew Ebel.

Wil’s response to the comments:

I need to make something really clear: the furry comment was mine and was meant exactly as delivered.

Furries give me the creeps, and I’ve had some random dude dressed up in a fucking fursuit try to hump my leg enough times to feel pretty comfortable saying that.

You want to dress up like animals and do shit together? Great, have fun. Just leave me alone when you’re doing it. I don’t think it’s cute and I don’t think it’s funny. It’s a violation of my personal space and I don’t like it.

Just as everyone is entitled to their opinions about me and my work and my blog and everything else, I am entitled to hold this opinion and express it.

After such exchanges, it was astonishing to see the fursiuiter pull his head off in the episode to reveal it was actually Mr. Wheaton.

I’m sure this is a tongue-in-cheek poke at the Fandom, but maybe the experience has given him a new perspective on furries in general.  We can but hope.

As for the fursuit, the Guild’s website WatchTheGuild.com talks to the couple who created the suit -  Bobby Bristow and Colleen Campbell – Dragon Squared Studio.  The article details some of their experience on the set during the filming, and participating in the shoot, at times actually in the fursuit they created.
