Episode 23 – Remembrance

Fuzzy Logic - Fri 18 Nov 2011 - 05:54

This is our second-most popular topic so far, with a total of seven e-mails! We read e-mails from people losing their boyfriends, losing their loved ones, losing their grip on reality…Kyo gets his rant on more than once, and some stories are shared by all involved! It’s also one of our longest episodes, running just under 1h40m, but this is a weighty topic that deserves the attention. This one is a little hard on the heart-strings, but we’re glad you know you can come to us when you need someone to talk to. Spread the word!

Next week’s topic is a little more light-hearted, and it’s about something we all want to do: making friends! Whether you’ve had limited success in your area in meeting people or you’re just a bit socially awkward when you’re around people you don’t know, we want to hear from you and help you to make those connections that make life worthwhile!

Finally, Jeddar is pretty sure that he has some idea of what’s been going on with the iTunes feed, so keep your digits crossed; hopefully we’ve got it sorted out this time!

Woody Woodpecker on the Big Screen

In-Fur-Nation - Fri 18 Nov 2011 - 02:43

We swiped this bit from Cartoon Brew, since they put it so well: “The Hollywood Reporter is reporting about Universal Pictures new plans to revive Walter Lantz’ classic cartoon star Woody Woodpecker in a CG feature film.  Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Hop, and The Lorax) is now developing the film with Blades of Glory co-writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, who are planning to ‘modernize the character for contemporary audiences’. Altschuler and Krinsky were exec producers and writers on Fox’s King of the Hill and currently on MTV’s Beavis and Butt-head.” Should classic cartoon fans rejoice or shudder? Stay tooned and we’ll find out!

I'm a budding artist. Along with practicing regularly, what can I do to better put what I imagine in my head onto paper?

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 22:46

A couple months ago I really got into drawing. I'm really aspiring to be a decent furry artist. But I'm really crappy right now.

I try to practice every day, drawing furry and non-furry things, but I can never exactly seem to put what I see in my head onto a piece of paper or a computer screen. I can't even draw what I see very well; looking at a chair and trying to put it onto a piece of paper holds horrible results for me.

Should I take basic art classes or something, just to improve my overall drawing skills, rather than going through "how to draw furry ears, how to draw paws, how to draw muzzles, etc.?" Or does practice just make perfect? (I feel like I actually need guidance on how to actually draw...trying to do something over and over again usually doesn't work unless you have an idea of how to do it.)

I posted this here rather than in /r/drawing since I'm sure more people here will have more knowledge in drawing anthros and such than those in the drawing subreddit.

I'd just like some tips on how to draw, I guess.

Thanks :3

EDIT: If anyone's looking to see things that I've drawn, whether out of curiosity or for critiquing me, here's a couple things that I'm not too embarrassed of. I know they're basic, but that's about all I can do. :\

Headshot of some sort of canine wearing a helmet - (this is before I started drawing on actual paper) This started out as a doodle line somewhere on the page, and turned into a helmet after I curved it. I decided to add some ears and what is sort of a snout, and eyes.

A non-furry sketchy thing of a cottage in a field - Maybe someone can help me with proportions or something, because I had a horrible time signifying that that's definitely grass (those things that look like birds on the ground? Yeah, those are tufts of grass). The grass at the bottom of the drawing is supposed to be up-close to the viewer, as if their eyes are just looking over some of the grass. ...bleh.

(Added 11/19/2011) Rigby and Mordecai from Regular Show - I drew both of these by looking off a picture of each of them (here and here). I think they turned out pretty good. Rigby's legs were the worst part of him; they still don't look right. His tail's a little stiff, too. I totally forgot about Mordecai's tail feathers...I may have to add those in later.

(Added 11/20/2011) Kovu from The Lion King II - Again, drawn by looking off a picture (here).

Actual art

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 17:10

I've noticed that out of the forty bazillion furry artists, it seems hard to track down prints/posters from anyone. It kinda makes sense, since a lot of furry art = dicks and vag, but for those of us interested in art focused on being actual art that might also be anthro/furry/whatever and might look good on a bedroom wall or something, what would be a good resource to look at? Any artist recommendations?

tl;dr Prints/posters, especially G-rated, where to look?

Furry Time Capsule

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 15:26

I Just had this idea right now. We should all get together and place all the important Furry artwork, stories, books, music, and photographs in box and bury it in the ground. We uncover it in another 31 Years (Since it's been 31 years since September 1st 1980, the beginning of the Furry Fandom) so when we are all grey muzzles we can reflect back on how the Fandom was when we were young and how it changed. What do you think?

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 09:37

The game by Nexon, pretty fun, though I don't have anyone to play with. My username is TehSofaWolf, if anyone else plays we should make a /r/furry clan :D

New Character Ninja Master Rioichi Cooper in Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 05:05

riochi Another new playable character has been announced for Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, or Sly Cooper: TiT for short...though that seems inappropriate...anyways!

Part of playing the new Sly Cooper game is getting to explore and learn about the part of the Sly Cooper lore the new ancestor is in. Glen Egan, President of Sanzaru Games, explains:

"The first ancestor we want to show off is Rioichi Cooper, the master of the Ninja Spire Landing! We were introduced to him back in the original Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus and learned about his cool Ninja ability. Now, when you get to play as Rioichi, you will see how much more powerful the original master’s techniques are. For instance, by focusing his energy Rioichi can execute his Leaping Dragon Technique and span great distances between spires."

More pictures of him in action in the full article!

Show it or Stow it?

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 02:06

I'm what you'd call a closet fur. I keep my interests to myself and only a handful of my close friends know (besides the internet friends, but there's only a handful of them near me, so they don't count.)

My question to you, /r/furry, is are you open or closed about this whole love of the fuzz? I just wanna know why or why not. It intrigues me. o.o

edit it's not a sheathing question, sorry kids. XD

edit part 2 really great discussion. I feel a little better, I think? Definitely got myself some new perspectives.

Lets make a story :]

Furry Reddit - Thu 17 Nov 2011 - 00:27

So! This is how this works, I'll write the first part, then someone else will write the next part, so on and so forth, till we have an epic story.

The Beginning: Devon woke up to the smell of bacon filling his nose. Sitting up in his bed, his tail wagged back and forth happily. "I love it when they cook in the morning!" But first, he would have to get dressed for the day.
