Happy Birthday … to Me!

In-Fur-Nation - Sun 18 Dec 2011 - 21:08

This is no one’s idea of a personal blog, but when your ever-lovin’ ed-otter turned 47 yesterday he received two books from his family that are so cool and so furry that he just had to give mention to them — again. Both of them feature behind-the-scenes looks at recent Dreamworks Animation films, and both of them are available now (here and here) in hardcover from Insight Editions. The Art of Puss in Boots is edited by Ramin Zahed (veteran editor of Animation Magazine) with a forward by famous director Guillermo Del Toro. The Art of Kung Fu Panda 2 is edited by Tracy Miller-Zarneke (who worked on numerous animated films including Chicken Little and The Emperor’s New Groove) with a forward by famous actor Dustin Hoffman (aka Master Shifu). Both books feature so much background artwork and character development for these two very furry films that the reader may find themselves wondering which are more interesting: The final character designs or the sketches leading up to them.

An analysis of furry IAMA submissions on Reddit

Furry Reddit - Sun 18 Dec 2011 - 06:38

Introduction

  • This is an analysis of all 51 furry "I Am A..." posts submitted to Reddit between August 2009 to December 18th 2011.

  • It doesn't include IAMA requests, or furry-related IAMAs from non-furries.

Chart

  • This chart shows the scores and comments of each furry IAMA, listed in chronological order.

  • The blue graph shows the score of each IAMA. Appears to be waning if you look at the 'lump' around IAMAs 1-7, then the peaks at 15 (80 points), 30 (67 points) and 44 (43 points).

  • 50% of furry IAMAs have a score of 0, although even these have an average of 55 comments.

Any RedditFurs going to Further Confusion?

Furry Reddit - Sun 18 Dec 2011 - 03:43

TL;DR: Looking for a hotel roommate. Read for details.

I know it's getting close to the last minute but I'm looking for someone to share a room at FC for the whole weekend at the Hilton San Jose. The hotel is connected to the convention center, so you'd never have to leave the building to get to the con.

I have a room booked at the Hilton San Jose with 2 double beds. The hotel is connected to the convention center and the Mariott, so you'll never have to leave the building to get to the convention! So far, we have me, my good friend Throan, and his girlfriend.

Our room is rented for Friday through Monday and the total cost is about 600 dollars. Split 4 ways, the cost of the room is 150 dollars per person. If we can get a fifth person that price will go down to 120 per person. We'd prefer not to have any more than that as it would start getting really cramped really quick. We would require you to pay your share on the first day of the con.

We would prefer someone around 20ish male or female is okay. We don't plan to do any partying in the room. I am bringing a partial fursuit, but we are not located on the fursuit floor. Throan and I are fairly quiet and polite. Throan's girlfriend is a bit hyper and loud at times, but otherwise nice and harmless. I can't stress this part enough though: no creeps. If you ask to stay with us, be prepared that I will probably cyberstalk your username just to make sure there's no weird drama/creepiness going on. I'm sorry if this comes off as strict and weird but we had a run-in with a slightly crazy fur not long ago and we'd like it to not happen again.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a room or if you have any questions, please drop me a private message, comment or email at kimba.snowpaw [at] gmail [dot] com.

Thanks for your time! :3

Open Post: The Stuff You Never Think About

[adjective][species] - Sat 17 Dec 2011 - 14:00

There’s all sorts of things that would have to be different about the world around us, were it a truly furry world.  These can be as simple as structuring chairs differently, or as complicated as equal rights for all species in a multi-species setting.  Lets collect a bunch of them here, just for funsies!  I’ve divided the list up into species-specific and non species-specific issues, with sub-categories in the species-specific category.  Inspired by this.

Species specific
  • Snakes, Nagas, and the like
    • Stairs could pose quite an issue
  • Giraffes
    • Doorways could prove to be awkward, and building every building to accommodate might be impractical
  • Elephants
    • As with Giraffes, buildings would need to be specially designed
  • Avians
    • Steps would get awkward
    • Possible entrances on multiple levels, and perches within a building
    • Air-traffic regulations are bad enough, but add in avians flying about…
  • Bats
    • How do shirts work?
Not species-specific
  • Motorcycles and convertibles could cause some…facial discomfort.
  • Speaking of, motorcycles, bicycles and the like – would have to come up with a way to keep fur or entire tails from getting trapped in the chain!
  • Eating gummi worms
  • “Being a professional chef, my career would be over. Hair, on ALL OF THE THINGS! I’d have to shave my hands and arms to work.”
  • “More food for thought (literally): eating. Most furries are canine; ripping/tearing eating, rather than mashing as human.”
  • “Another big problem: I’d be expected to be dressed, probably to human standards, so I’d be too warm.”
  • Bathing would be a pain – so anything that involves getting dirty
  • Cups could be a real pain (see comment)
  • Differences in senses could cause awkwardness or even strife (see comment)
  • The tricky question of carnivores versus herbivores. (see comment)
  • Workplace discrimination based on species attributes. (see comment)
  • Cleaning the drain.  Monthly.

May be a silly question, but, is there a subreddit for furries into owner/pet stuff?

Furry Reddit - Fri 16 Dec 2011 - 22:08

Was just wondering, not a big deal if there isn't. And it doesn't even have to be the super duper sexual fetish side of it either. I'm really just curious haha.
