Oh the troubles of having a non-furry mate... Do you agree?

Furry Reddit - Sat 23 Mar 2013 - 22:55

Just a thought at the moment. Its never easy to be a fur and have a very loving mate that just isn't into it. Especially when it comes to sexual things. Am I right?

Thinking about putting together a tail oscillator kit

Furry Reddit - Sat 23 Mar 2013 - 22:17

I have been putting some thought into putting together a kit to add simple animation to a tail. It would basically consist of a module that attaches to a belt and a hub that rotates back and fourth (Total rotation would be limited to 180deg). A pair of strings could connect the spine of a tail to the rotating hub to get a simple back and fourth movement. The design would focus on simplicity and would be as durable as possible whilst still being easy to build. I would probably release plans, project files and source code along with it.

Would anyone be interested in this? What features would you want?

My brother (13 yo) just told me he is a furry. Best ways to be supportive?

Furry Reddit - Sat 23 Mar 2013 - 19:23

Hello friends,

My 13 year old little bro has expressed to me over the past few months deep interest in creating a wolf suit. He explained that he identifies very much with wolves, that he'd like to be able to communicate with them, and that a wolf is his spirit animal. Just this week he discovered "something called a furry rave" & that he'd like to participate and get to know other furries. This initially took me by surprise due to the contextual implications of 'rave' (he's only 13), but also alerted me that this budding furry identity is serious and integral to his development.

He asked if I thought it was weird that he wanted to be a wolf, so naturally I gave him the big bro pep-talk: "Of course not, you're cool the way you are. I think that it's neat that you relate to wolves so much." I cautioned him to be selective about sharing his interest with kids a school, because he gets a lot of flack already for not being a "cool kid".

My question to you all is this: From a furry perspective, what is the best way I can show my support to my little brother? What does he need to be aware of as he develops a furry identity? Anything I should caution him over/ things you wish you heard from someone, etc? I want him to grow up with a healthy self-identity and not feel alienated by his own family (our family is very narrow-minded and judgmental). After years of defending his idiosyncrasies with our extended family, is there an approach to explaining the furry perspective in a way for us non-furries to understand?

Thanks for your help!

I want to see how everybody answers this.

Furry Reddit - Sat 23 Mar 2013 - 15:48

If you can remember, who was the first furry you met, what was their Fursona, what was their gender, how far back was it, and did you know them in real life?. If you cant remember that, then who is the earliest you can remember? I think the results of this will be quite interesting.

EDIT: I'm glad that people are answering this, it really shows that the "fandom" that we know today has been around for a lot longer than most people think. :3

Fellow Furs, where is a good online place for Role Play, discussions, etc.

Furry Reddit - Sat 23 Mar 2013 - 10:10

Hello Furs, just like the title says.. What is a good place that I can go to 'be myself.' To Role Play with other Furs out there that make me feel at home and not ridicule. I'm thinking of maybe there is a forum out there or a website community I can visit anywhere from my phone and not have to be bogged down by a computer.

For instance I used to play Furcadia a long time ago but I feel like I have just grown too far apart from that game or it has lost its charm. I've heard of Second Life but I don't really feel like trying that out.

I am pretty clueless as to where I can go to feel like myself and feel like I belong in the fandom. I'm sorry if this post comes off as weird or anything because I don't normally post. I look forward to reading your replies (if any)! (:
