More Cats from Space
Another new full-color science fiction comic series, this time from Antarctic Press. It’s Stars End, created by Larry Spike Jarrell and Selena McDevitte. “6,000 years ago the Annunaki, visitors to Earth, departed with numerous animals as subjects for study and DNA experiments. Centuries in the future these evolved beasts, collectively known as N’Naki, have created vast civilizations in the Sirius system, with humans serving as their worker bees. One group of N’Naki are given a pre-graduation duty: Scan a mining world of human workers that’s fallen victim to a viral infection before the planet is demolished to stop the disease from spreading. But when a sixteen-year-old Annunaki girl turns up, the mission quickly becomes anything but routine.” If the description doesn’t make it obvious, the covers certainly do: The N’Naki are decidedly feline!

Devil-Proof Dog
And speaking of Mike Norton (which we were a couple days ago), he’s back as illustrator and collaborating once again with Rafer Roberts on Grumble, a new full-color comic series from Albatross Funnybooks. “When the forces of good and evil are hunting you down, the only logical thing to do is disguise yourself as a dog and go on the run! Eddie is a low-rent hustler who got magically turned into a pug during a con gone wrong. Tala is the part-demon daughter of one of Eddie’s many ex-girlfriends. When Tala finds herself the target of powerful inter-dimensional forces, she goes to Eddie for help–setting off a chain reaction of chaos and destruction that could threaten the very fabric of existence. Can Eddie and Tala put aside their differences long enough to survive the magical mayhem and madness that they started, or will they kill each other first? (It’s probably the second one!)” CBR has a preview with sample pages too.
Cats Leaving the Cradle in a Silver Ship
So how did this pass us by? It’s Captain Ginger, a new full-color series from Ahoy Comics. “When the human race died out, the cats inherited the Earth! Or at least one starship. Now the intrepid Captain Ginger struggles to keep his fellow felines united against a hostile universe. But there’s a rival for Ginger’s authority: His second-in-command, the savage Sergeant Mittens! Thirty-five pages of comic adventure — with a bite — created by writer Stuart Moore (Deadpool the Duck, Batman: Noir Alley) and artist June Brigman (Power Pack, Star Wars).” Also featuring extra back-up material by Animal Man creator Grant Morrison.
The Dog
While this is just barely furry I really wanted to share this short as It's probably the first Pinscreen animated film in many years. The Pinscreen is one of those styles of animation that is VERY crazy and I personally think one of the most difficult forms of animation out there. A brief history of Alexandre Alexeieff [1] and Claire Parker [2]'s Pinscreen can be found in this short 1973 film on the subject: https://youtu.be/N4u-C8kyUeA This form of animation lends itself to very ethereal stream of consciousness sorts of films. "Film directed on Spruce, pinscreen by Alexandre Alexeïef and Claire Parker, during a research and development residency organized by the CNC. Many thanks to Jean-Baptiste Garnero, Sophie Le Tétour and Nathanaël Bergèse, and Chaïtane Conversat and Sophie Roze. And a special thanks to Michèle Lemieux!" Own the Whole Sky
And speaking of compilations… IDW has a big one for fans of Spyro the Dragon and the Skylanders crew in the new Skylanders Omnibus. “A collection of Skylanders adventures tying into some of their most popular games! From the world of Skylanders Trap Team! Discover the history of the Trap Masters and Kaos’ plot for Traptanium that ties right into the video game. Marvel as your favorite characters face grueling tests, outrageous challenges, and the vilest of villains to gain Champion status! Plus, one of Spyro’s most malevolent and powerful enemies makes his Skylanders debut! And nothing Spyro, Hex, Cynder, or the rest of the Skylanders can do will prepare them for the evil that is about the be unleashed—the return of the first purple dragon, Malefor!” At nearly 300 pages, it just hit the shelves too!
GitHub Animation: Better Together
Here is a semi disturbing short made for GitHub universe Conference [1] involving GitHub [2]'s mascot Mona the Octocat [3]. "An invention gone wrong splits Mona the Octocat into her component parts and it's up to her robot assistant, Hubot, to put her back together..." Dog of Death upDated
Some years ago we told you about comic creator Mike Norton and his series Battlepug — a web comic so popular it was making its way to print media. Well now thanks to Image Comics we have the complete series put together in Battlepug: The Compugdium. (We don’t make this stuff up, folks.) “At long last, Mike Norton’s award-winning fantasy/humor web comic is collected in one volume! Join the last Kinmundian and his faithful steed, The Battlepug, as they travel the globe seeking revenge against every giant ridiculous animal they can find. Featuring extras like sketches and art by some of the most creative artists in the business today! Collects the entire 5-volume original series of Battlepug!” It’s coming to stores later this month in hardcover.

Bunnies Who Are Bent
We came across this new 6-issue comic mini-series at a bookstore! “Auntie Agatha’s Home for Wayward Rabbits is in danger. Run by the titular Agatha and her niece, Julie, this peculiar shelter cares for damaged and dysfunctional rabbits — and now it’s being threatened by a wealthy businessman who will stop at nothing to tear it down.” Auntie Agatha’s Home for Wayward Rabbits is also the latest comic series from famed writer Keith Giffen, helped out by artist Benjamin Roman. It’s available now from Image Comics.

Variations on a Dragon (1967)
Note: There are subtitles if you turn CC on, There doesn't appear to be a way to force it. The Hungarian Institute of Film Science has recently posted a bunch of older animated shorts newly remasterd and I thought I would share one while they are still available. I present to you the very silly Variations on a Dragon. "Seven variations on the traditional story of fairy tales when the dragon kidnaps the royal - but this time, things are not formed according to the paper form." UPDATE: They took the film down so I updated this with another location. If they ever turn the video back on here is the original location: https://vimeo.com/305753980 Also a translation: Ladies and gentlemen, who wouldn't remember that once upon a time there was a beautiful princess. And one day the evil dragon kidnapped the princess. Of course we all remember... And the noble-hearted knight... came, saw, and won. He took the beautiful princess home, their wedding banquet was a festive event famed across the empire, and they lived happily hereafter. That is how the fable ends. But is that the only way the fable could be told? What if this is not the way it ended? Let us try a couple of new versions. VARIATIONS ON A DRAGON 1. Stark Reality 2. Sports Passion Hello... 3. Unexpected 4. A True Friend 5. The Two Scallybag Arthur, please... The horse is soaking. 6. The Weaker Sex 7. Help..! I won! The End

Oh My Darlin’ Space Patrol
Whoa, don’t give up on 2018 just yet! Take a look at some things we missed… Back around Halloween (!) DC Comics continued their mightily-odd hook up with classic Hanna-Barbera characters in new comic book settings. How so? How about the Green Lantern / Huckleberry Hound Special? Yes. “Returning from recent duty in Vietnam, veteran Marine John Stewart — now a member of the Green Lantern Corps — contemplates what, if anything, he should do about the issues tearing his country apart. Meanwhile, Huckleberry’s comments against the Vietnam war have left him a celebrity outcast, and a visit back home to Mississippi puts him face to face with the Civil Rights Movement. What can one man — and one hound — do? Plus, part two of a Secret Squirrel backup story written by J.M. DeMatteis.” Got all that? Check out the web site if you don’t believe us. The main story is by Mark Russell and Rick Leonardi. Not weird enough for you? How about the Deathstroke / Yogi Bear Special, the Nightwing / Magilla Gorilla Special, or the Superman / Top Cat Special? We kid you not.
