Too Chicken To Fly?
Animation World Network let us know about a new European animated firm called Ploey. Unlike the usual animated film we whine about, this one seems to have already found US distribution! “When a young flightless plover chick named Ploey gets separated from his family, he must undertake a dangerous journey to a legendary valley in order to save his loved ones from falling prey to an evil falcon… A co-production between the animation division of Iceland’s GunHil‘s and Belgium-based studio Cyborn, Ploey is written by Friðrik Erlingsson and directed by Árni Ásgeirsson. The CG animated feature is set to take wing in the U.S. in April both on DirecTV and in theaters.” The article includes more artwork and clips. Seems like it’ll be flying in soon!

The Fandom

Ash Coyote with Eric Risher have a full on 7 part documentary mini series on the Fandom that is both well shot and edited that thoughtfully covers a bunch of aspects of the fandom. This is well worth a watch and here I have the first 4 episodes listed here. It's great to see greater levels of video production coming directly out of the fandom that is really makes this old furry video nerd happy. They have a kickstarter to fund a full on feature film here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/furryfilm/the-fandom-0 [1] https://www.thefandomfilm.com/ [2] https://youtu.be/c6ycAbsyBag https://youtu.be/yUAQPOveDXk https://youtu.be/a-VaDw9xUCg [1] https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/furryfilm/the-fandom-0 [2] https://www.thefandomfilm.com/

The Lion King Official Trailer

It does look like they are hedging on how the talking works in this film. At least they are de-emphasizing the movements to avoid some uncanny valley. As a Lion King fanatic (TLKIAWOL [1]) i'm seriously mixed on this project. It feels like some sort of shot-for-shot cover of a movie. The music still gives me chills and I'm gonna go see it. From the Pawsup Project [1] putting out a video in hopes of cheering up people. This was shot at the JMOF 2019: The Dogfather [2] and stuff like this makes me want to dust off the passport and head to Japan next year. The Dragon is Ohana
Another artist we ran into at WonderCon: Denae Frazier. She does fine art and pin-ups on many subjects both fannish and “mundane”, but what really caught our eye right off the bat was her affinity for both Disney’s Stitch (of Lilo & Stitch) and Dreamworks’ Toothless (of How to Train Your Dragon)… individually, and together! (Has she met Chris Sanders? Probably!) In fact she’s complete so many pictures of those two together that she created a calendar for 2020 featuring those prints. Check out her web site to see those and more.

NSFW: Duke Doberman

What an impressive Dobermen! Well... I think I'll go cool off now. (It's Impressive all the video production techniques modern fursuiters get up to.)

The Man With Patience
You may recall about three years ago when we introduced you to Charles Thurston and his hand-made books for young kids, introducing them to various nerdy topics and story settings. Well we ran into Mr. Thurston at WonderCon and discovered his latest project: Detailed artwork created entirely with hand-cut pieces of paper. A very, very time-consuming way to create — and he does it well. Fortunately for us, many of his works are also available in less-fragile print versions. Visit his web site to see what we mean.

Here is a new short from The Blue Wolf Studios [1]... Oh crap, my allergies are kicking up again and making my eyes water... Yeah, that's the reason. "Friendships come in all shapes and sizes, even between a bird and a plant dog." [1] https://twitter.com/bluewolfanimate

The Dragon Century
Katelyn McCaigue is an artist and illustrator we met at WonderCon last week. She describes herself as a “monster and character artist”, and a look at her web site seems to back that up. Recently, she’s been working on a project to illustrate 100 different dragons based on ideas submitted to her by her fans and subscribers. She’s still got a ways to go but she’s intent on finishing! Many of her current monster designs are also available as prints.

Don’t Starve Together: Possessions

Don't Starve Together [1] is a multiplayer game on a bunch of platforms and has a serious Edward Gorey [2] art feel. This short is based off of a Wortox [3] which is a impish creature that craves eating souls that recently was added to the game. Who else would a Wortox hang out with but a Krampus? "Subscribe for more Don't Starve animations! A playful imp with a colourful past, Wortox was once a gentle (if rascally) forest creature without a care in the world -- until the day he inherited a terrible curse, and lost a close friend. Unlike the other Survivors, he does not appear to be trapped in the Constant. Perhaps he views this as some sort of game?" Witch’s Cat, Off On His Own
Something we recently discovered: The Freelance Familiars series of fantasy novels by Daniel Potter. Here, check out this summary of the first book, Off Leash: “When Thomas Khatt awakens to the magical world following the sudden, violent death of his elderly Archmagus neighbor, he doesn’t get the standard package of awesome power combined with a hero destiny. Nope, he trades his thumbs in for a tail, tawny fur and four feet with a very low co-efficient of friction on linoleum. His destiny as one of three talking mountain lions in the magical world? To be sold at auction and bonded to some pimply faced apprentice for life. Thomas would rather eat dirty kitty litter. Armed only with an impressive set of chompers and buckets of snark, Thomas faces off against a lightning-bolt throwing granny and a sexy union recruiter as he desperately tries hold the threads of his old life together. To stay off the leash he’ll have to take advantage of the chaos caused by the Archmagus’ death and help the local Inquisition solve his murder. A pyromanic squirrel, religious werewolves, and cat-hating cops all add to the chaos as Thomas attempts to become the first Freelance Familiar.” Mr. Potter has already finished two more books in the series, Marking Territory and High Steaks, with a fourth on the way, Rudy and the Warren Warriors. Want more? He also has a separate fantasy series about air pirates fighting dragons. Yes. Needless to say, you should visit his web site!

The Greek Escape

Here is a Senior short film made by Victoria Aldis [1] and I gotta say I absolutely love the character design and overall style. I really would love to see a short series with these characters. [1] https://www.instagram.com/vicorish/?hl=en
