What is a "fursona/scalesona"?

Furry Reddit - Sun 26 Jan 2014 - 13:02

I know that it has something to do with an artist's furry/scaly interpretation of themselves, but is it more than just an image? is it like some kind of alter-ego or personality?

In regards to R/yiff

Furry Reddit - Sat 25 Jan 2014 - 23:35

So I would like to say this in that subreddit but one of the admins is the reason why I am not. There is so far one admit that I know of this subreddit who became admin just for posting tons of pictures on there. This admin does not source his pictures and when approached about it will remove or insult others for it. I know this because he was posting one of my friends art without sourcing and my friend told him to stop which he then said he would rather stop following them. I just wanna ask any furs that also browse that subreddit to make sure that you source your pictures and if you see someone who is not to help them out or ask them to. technically it is not copy right infringement but technically it is. so please, source your posts. for all of us

Have you ever had issues with a commission? What did you do?

Furry Reddit - Sat 25 Jan 2014 - 19:47

I am not going to mention who this rant is about, as I still respect their art, but am starting to have doubts my boyfriend will even see the commission he ordered.

Background: Around October, he contacted an artist to do the ref sheet for Roxy, his caribou character. The artist let me know that they were doing a seasonal special, that was fairly popular, so they could churn out lots at a time and a ref sheet would take a few days to finish and he would be put at the bottom of the list for commissions. he was cool with it, sent the details, and paid up front, as was their policy, and patiently waited.

He kept waiting, and then on the 8th of January, they contacted him saying that they were sorry that they hadn't gotten to his stuff yet, and that they had just gotten through an art block that they had, as well as going through a bunch of personal stuff over the holidays. It was nice for him to get some sort of acknowledgement, especially since their art queue is buried in their journals and not linked anywhere on their user page (it is updated, trust me).

Now the next part. By the time the 21st rolled around, he contacted them again, just wanting an update on the status. I mean, it had been 13 days, and he was supposedly at the top of their queue, even though they had done other work during that time, including art that I had gotten commissioned from them well after he had paid for his piece. They contacted him back, saying that they were behind schedule on a lot of stuff, as well as just getting back from a convention, which was part of the lateness of their reply (which actually came only a few hours after he sent the note). They said they were going to be working on it during the week, which is now coming to a close, and still no update on anything.

Dilemma: He’s starting to get frustrated by the wait. He has wanted to get so much artwork done of Roxy, but he hasn’t been able to since he doesn’t have a ref sheet. Sure, some artists do work off of descriptions, but then there's that slight possibility that they don't get it right, which is why many artists require ref sheets. I've seen lots of YCH's where I was thinking, "Roxy would be awesome for that," but can't do it because of the wait.

So /r/furry, Now I'm curious at what point does the wait become too much? He’s thought about having a deadline set in his head, like, "they have until next Friday, then I ask for a progress sketch or my money back." What are your thoughts? Should he ask for my money back and try to commission someone else to do the ref sheet? Should he just wait patiently? The one thing, he will not back down from is the money. He paid them $60, which is a nice chunk of change and a decent price for a ref sheet, but is not willing to write that off as a loss.

I feel bad because I sent him to this particular artist. I got a character and a ref sheet from her no problem and for less than half of what he paid.
