The Most Famous Furry in the World?

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 2 Sep 2014 - 01:53

It’s quite possible that Mickey Mouse could well be that — though, of course, Bugs Bunny could also be considered a serious contender. Still, The Mouse has been around the longest, and author Garry Apgar decided to take a look what possibly accounts for Mickey’s world-wide appeal in a new hardcover book. “Since his modest debut in 1928, Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse has evolved into arguably the world’s most recognized and beloved fictional figure. Mickey Mouse: Emblem of the American Spirit is the illustrated biography of a unique cartoon character, his life and times, and his impact and influence around the world in art and literature. Part art history and part cultural study, Apgar’s Mickey Mouse narrates how the character was initially developed by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, how his irrepressible spirit grew to huge popularity during the Depression, and how he became a politically charged cultural icon of international reach.” You can order the book at Midtown Comics. It’s coming later this month from Simon & Schuster.

Furry language

Furry Reddit - Mon 1 Sep 2014 - 22:56

My thinking is that, despite being the most connected generation ever, language still presents a barrier to people.

There are plenty of multilingual international furs. And I'd bet money that some furs are into language studies, and other fields where communication plays a key role.

It rankles a bit to think that the Trekkies have "Klingon", and some of the Middle Earth Larpers have "Elvish". We can do that!! I'd be surprised if there weren't a few on Reddit right now - in this very forum - who are conversant.

Why not a language of our own? Something that's computer-friendly, sign-friendly - not semaphore, exactly, nor nothing as tedious as morse code. Thieves' cant, for the furry-minded. So many historical precedents.

There are 300 or so essential words in a language, representing some basic concepts. Maybe a full language is far too much to expect (it is), but I think that we could develop a code for basic communication. A basic language. And it doesn't need to be just one. High and low draconian would do. Plus a language for the rest of you ... we can call it, "Common". I jest - I'd settle for just one furry language!

Maybe "Common fur" is a good start, ya know?

My first thoughts were a binary language ... but the image of dozens of Redditors rolling their eyes at my post at once flashed through my skull ... who am I kidding? The minute that I wrote "klingon" my monitor practically FELL OVER its back from the sheer dorkiness of it all ... I'm still jealous about the Klingons.

"a million eyes rolled back in their sockets ... and were suddenly silenced"

Because eyes don't make noise, you know.

Can't use furry wallpapers without people wondering if I'm a furry or questioning my sexuality.

Furry Reddit - Mon 1 Sep 2014 - 21:55

I want to use a nice furry wallpaper that I found for my phone, but there is no way to use it without people wondering if I'm a furry or questioning my sexuality.

I only care because I am not ready to tell people that I'm bisexual or that I'm a furry, I have reasons for both.

For one people in high school are really judgmental, some at my school dislike bisexual people but not homosexuals because they want you to just choose, or that they think your only going through a phase. Plus I'm not really ready to tell anyone, and I don't have a reason (not in a relationship with either sex).

With being a furry (which I love and am not ashamed of, don't confuse this with being ashamed) people who don't know will ask about it or look up what a furry is (we all know what most of what they find will be) and I will either have to explain why I like something that most would consider strange, or let them make inferences.

Finally, and mainly, neither of them fit with my day-to-day personality, most of the time I'm one of the quieter and more serious people that you find.

Imagine a really serious and reserved person that you know, now imagine them in what a non-furry would think was a silly costume, and imagine this person in a relationship with the same sex, someone who you always just assumed was 100% straight.

On a similar note, does anyone know of any subtle furry wallpapers (for both phones and desktops)? I seem to only find furry wallpapers and furry wallpapers that are so subtle they don't even seem furry.

Anyone doing comissions?

Furry Reddit - Mon 1 Sep 2014 - 21:46

G'day /r/Furry, I've been a bit of a lurker on this subreddit for a while, and I've been part of the furry community for about 6 months, mainly on SoFurry, but I'm also on Furaffinity (Not so much :/

But to the point, I'm looking for someone to create my character, sketch/drawings are cool, but digital art is preferred.

But the catch as such, is that I don't have a paypal account, I can instead pay in a 20-25$ voucher for whatever you would like me to get, (ITunes, Xbox, Steam, PSN are the ones that come to mind)

Lemmie know if anyone's interested! I'll be your best friend forever! :3

Edit: Here's my characters details, I can provide more if you would like :D

Name: Kaiber

Age: 20 turning 21 this year!

Species: Anthro Lizard, Raptor style.

Appearance: My main scales ( Back, arms, tail, head etc) are a gunmetal grey.

His accents ( Belly, Facial markings, back stripe etc) are a emerald green

Eyes: Fluoencent Blue

Claws: Flat black

Height: 6 foot 10

Build: Well defined muscles and a toned chest, a mild to large build. Also, if the artist is willing, a rather prominent bulge around his crotch area :)

Clothing: Usually shirtless, sunglasses on head, silver necklace, loose fitting jeans and belt.

Defining features: He was shot on accident when he was 17, the resulting scar is just below my ribs.

As for the actual art position, I was going to go for him leaning against a brick wall, his name graffitied on the wall behind him, the sun shining in all it's glory to the pure blue sky, his arms crossed on his chest. The smug kind of look that says 'haha, that was me' adorning his face.

Lemme know if you need any more detail or something doesn't sit right. Send me a message and all that.

Thanks! ~vDiscord

I've had my character for a long time and I'm worried that by the time I make her public...

Furry Reddit - Mon 1 Sep 2014 - 21:29

Someone else will have a character that looks too much like her and I'll be accused of copying. My drawing skills are pathetic and I can't afford commisions.

There's a character that came out in a movie a few years ago that looks A LOT like her...but male, so the chances of her having someone similar looking are high.

What should I do? I LOVE HER.

Guide to buying a fursuit?

Furry Reddit - Mon 1 Sep 2014 - 18:46

So I really want to go to some cons, but before I do Id like to get a suit. I know that they would still be great without one, but I would still like to get a suit first.

After looking around Ive found a HUGE variation in price. And so I want to ask, what are some reccomended fursuit makers (Ill need to commission one, not buy a pre-made) How much do they cose (for a good quality suit including digi legs)

Extra details: Im in the UK If possible Id like one that fits well, not the thin/baggy suits some have One that doesnt look super toony, but still huggable :) Kind of like this: http://www.fursuiting.com/album/caninesdomestic/braniffmalamute/braniff3.jpg
