I'm still honing the details of my fursona, but what I have so far is: I'm a circus bear (but I come and go as I please and I sit at the table to eat with the crew and I love performing). I'm a black bear (not grizzly) and very cute, but not afraid to use my teeth and claws if provoked.

My natural coloring is very dark brown with beige muzzle, but I like to have my fur dyed in different patterns and colors for performing, so it changes pretty often.

I haven't come up with a name I really like yet. At first, I was Fuzzle...but that's a bit to straight-up cute and too reminiscent of other things. I also thought of Grrowf, which I like because it's a name a bear would name itself and it has a nice balance between cute and wild...and I might end up going with that, but anyone got any other ideas? Either other "bear noise" names or anything else?

The Knoxville Zoo is offering free admission to all visitors Saturday and Sunday, but it isn’t the only place to find interesting animal activity in Knoxville this weekend.

The “Furries” or “Fursuiters,” as they prefer to be called, have convened in West Knoxville for FangCon 2014 at the Holiday Inn near Cedar Bluff.

Fursuiters are, of course, not real animals. They are people who like to dress up as animals and, well, party.

According to Garfield McLaughlin, or Draconis, as he calls himself, a Fursuiter is anyone who wears a costume, but typically it is a person “who wears fur from head to toe.”

McLaughlin is the Chairman of FangCon 2014. He said people have different reasons for attending the convention.

“A lot of them are enthusiasts,” he said. “Some people really like Halloween, and these guys have it several times a year. It’s Halloween all year long.”

The Fursuiters like to delve deep into their alter egos. Most wear animal costumes that cover their human features and prefer to be called by their Fursuiter name.

“It’s fun because you interact with many Furries and they are all so lovely and the art is amazing,” said Amanda Vigil, a Fursuiter known as Mystic Skullivine.

For many attendees, the convention allows them to break away from their normal routine and become something else completely.

“People come and dress in their “fursona,” and, basically, that’s a person who dresses as an animal or something that they can relate to,” said Brett Peterpaul, also known as Nebulous Dark.

McLaughlin got his start as a Fursuiter in the 1990s in Florida at “Furry Spring Break.” He was attending the event as a consultant at the time.

“I saw how much fun these people were having and I went out after that and bought myself a suit,” he said.

Organizers for FangCon 2014 are expecting 300 or more attendees. Approximately 150 people had already registered as of Friday. McLaughlin said he is hoping to recruit even more people from the Fanboy Expo at the Knoxville Convention Center this weekend.

“We will be advertising over at Fanboy Expo,” McLaughlin said. “They end at like 7 p.m., and we don’t do that. We end at like 2 a.m.”

FangCon 2014 will host CD release parties for two well-known artists in the fandom world. Husky in Denial and Niic the Singing Dog will perform live to promote their albums.

There will also be a Fursuiter parade, a Furry Drama Show, and dozens of other events throughout the weekend.

“As you see, we have a lot of entertainment coming through this weekend,” McLaughlin said. “We cram it all in there.”

FangCon 2014 will hold a silent auction to raise money for Tiger Haven, a large cat sanctuary in Kingston, Tenn. Last year the event raised nearly $2,000 for the organization.

FangCon is in its third year in Knoxville and McLaughlin hopes to continue that tradition. He is hoping to have a World’s Fair theme event in the coming years. FangCon 2014 began Friday and will wrap up on Sunday. Members of the public can register at the hotel. ?

I remember reading a web comic about a straight overweight man who turned into a gay werewolf. It wasn't a dirty comic or anything. Most nights he just goes to the club and at one point he falls in love with a person in a werewolf costume and then he pulled of the head and thought he had killed him. Anybody remember this one?

Discotek Media have released all 26 episodes of the original anime series Sherlock Hound in a special 6-DVD box set. “Written and Directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away) during his time at Japans largest animation studio, TMS. Before he went on to create Totoro and Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki captured a whole generation of children’s imaginations with his retelling of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries using a loveable cast of canines. Sherlock Hound, released as either Famous Detective Holmes or Detective Holmes in Japan, is an anime based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes series where all the characters are depicted as anthropomorphic animals, the majority dogs, though Holmes is a fox and his enemy Professor Moriarty is a wolf. I'll admit this is probably better suited for /r/confessions, but it's furry centered.

I sometimes have a feeling of depression when I think about furries. This is mostly caused by the fact that furries don't exist in reality.
For me, the fandom is a major part of my life, even sexually. I don't have friends, and this is the only thing that really makes me happy. I'm sure some of you know what I mean.
My problem is that I want it to be real. And it's not like I can make it real. It is literally impossible for any of this to be real, at least for a long time. I know, with that kind of attitude it really is impossible, but trust me, I'm trying to believe.
So do I just keep hoping I'll wake up in a furry world? Or are depressive feelings just something I have to deal with?
Tldr: is this the real life?
Again, I probably should have posted this to /r/confessions, but i thought i would receive a better response here.

I started looking at Constellation names on wikipedia, Lyra sounded beautiful so I wanted to make try and make something from it, She's an average sized anthro eagle and she has a pattern on her back that sort of reminds you of a starry night sky. It doesn't need to be anything big, the most basic of sketches will be good. Also I will probably end up posting it to my FA later so if you're okay with that then leave your information so I can credit you (and if not then that's fine, just say so and I wont). Thanks in advance :)

EDIT: Hell, the more i think about it, the less I care if I'm the one who gets it, you can keep the character if you want, I just want to see it become a thing.

Hello, this is my first post and I honestly just want to talk to others who supposedly think the same way as me. I like video games and I'm in my early teens, come and talk!

I want to discuss something that I have never seen talked about in the fandom before, CHOICE. All I see are posts like "I have become a furry" and things like that, but nothing about just being one like me.

At first I denied it but soon it became apparent that I like this stuff and there is nothing I can do about it, so I would love to talk to another furry, because I haven't ever before.

I feel uncomfortable with liking this stuff because if my friend group found out I don't know what they would do. My brother probably thinks I'm attention seeking, and others might if they knew, and I think this is because they think this is always a choice. I'm probably thinking too deep, but why would I CHOOSE to be part of a community with such a bed reputation, even if it is the horrible loud minority.

And I kinda wanna tell her but I don't know how or when to do it. Also she knows about furrys she is ok with them but thinks their kinda weird. Good thing is she doesn't know what yiff is and doesn't think of them as sex obsessed creepers.
