I recently made a drunk post on this sub, and it was the best decision I ever made. You all in this community have helped me more than you can know. I was recently diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and some people in my life have not been very... shall we say... understanding. But this sub and community in general are awesome and have been a great escape from life, if only for 5 minutes at a time. Other hobbies and interests aren't nearly as amazing or friendly (I'm looking at you League of Legends) as you all are. I guess all I am trying to say is... thank you. Thank you for inspiring me, thank you for letting me escape from reality, and thank you for the open, warm, furry arms. You all rock. <3

For me, I don't really know what to say. It was probably Q4 2012 when I was first introduced to our little fandom. I remember this dude, we'll call him Jake for the sake of privacy, randomly changed his Skype status and pictures to something that resembled a blue dog (To me this looks more like a furby, but I digress). We spoke almost daily, and frequently played DayZ Mod. I remember asking him why the hell he had changed his picture, and of all things, to something like that. He explained it to me, and my first thoughts had to been "God damn this is odd". We played DayZ for a bit and eventually parted ways for the day. Hours later, I got a call from our mutual friend, we'll call him Bob, again, for the sake of privacy, whom also was interested in playing DayZ. He asked me the very question I had asked Jake, and I explained what Jake had told me. His simple reply was "That's pretty fucking stupid". Being the kid I was, I kinda went with it. Being the kid he was, he ranted on about it and how it was wrong and against blah blah stupid shit. (He was one of those "IF IT ISNT 100 PERCENT SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE I HATE YOU!" kind of people) I listened to him rant on for a few minutes before he quit at the sound of loading into the DayZ world. I slowly parted my ways with these two over the next few months, and continued to do my own thing. For whatever reason, my curiosity got the best of me one day and I decided to really look into it, to do my own research into the subject, I found it so odd and interesting. trying to part the ignorance I had been picked up on, I began to find out about Furry art. Man were some of those people talented. I did my research from there and, well, turns out this is a whole big community of people who were into whole furry thing. I eventually met a furry from a gaming community who gave me a formal introducing, and well here I am. Fast forward 3 year and I regret nothing.

If you might not be aware, Otherkin are people who literally think that they are in the wrong body, and should be a animal, or people who think they are the reincarnation or have the spirit of a animal, usually a mythical creature. Unlike a fursona, this is a complete belief, not a fun pastime.

What do you think of Otherkin? I think it's kinda odd, and it's a little saddening how someone is so immersed in their imagination to believe this. They must have gone through a lot to feel out of their body.

Just curious. A lot of furries seem like outcast types, but I don't understand why. I personally am pretty well liked at my school (granted, I triple-lock the fact that I am a furry). I don't bail out on my classes, but I am a bit of a class clown when I can do it respectfully, and I play football. So, where are you?

Just an open question to the mods and to see what the furs here think about other furry cons being in the sidebar somewhere. Perhaps some of the smaller conventions can get featured somehow if a convention is coming up. Like a stickied thread for that convention so furs can find eachother in the comment section.

I'm not really sure where to start on this. First things first, I don't intend to whine or hate on anyone, and I deeply apologize if I sound like that's what it sounds like.

I've been thinking lately about something, and It's actually what's been making me feel down across the whole time I've been a furry/ been submitting my art.

I look at people's watcher counts on Deviant art, and they'll have up to maybe 30 watchers, and have been on the site for a week or two. I have at least 16. Don't get me wrong, I love every single one of them (even though I know most of them are watch-backs). But I've been on the site for 4 months now, and I'm not really sure where I'm going wrong. I guess the question I'm trying to set up is... how can I get noticed...?

I've tried putting things in groups like recommended but nothing is happening. The thing that puzzles me is that the types of people I mentioned above aren't even part of any groups, like their watchers appear out of thin air. I even made a journal post about possibly doing free headshot and that got zero response. My main issue is that while I do it for my enjoyment and myself I run on feedback and the lack of it doesn't really help for anything.

Do you guys know any ways I could try and get myself out there...?
