How private/open are you about your furriness?

Furry Reddit - Mon 29 Jun 2015 - 22:12

A guy a work with wears furcon/anthro shirts pretty often, and wears his full suit to work on Halloween. I've seen a couple of girls with tails/ears from time to time around town. I'd never wear in public personally, but I always think its cool to see people that are comfortable enough with themselves to be so open. What are your thoughts? Is a little furry flair ok, or is it just asking to be a new topic on r/cringe?

[meta] Some /r/furry traffic stats

Furry Reddit - Mon 29 Jun 2015 - 19:05

Here's a pretty screenshot I took earlier of the /r/furry traffic stats. Full stats can be found over at http://www.reddit.com/r/furry/about/traffic. You'll see I've skipped subscriptions per day because it's super volatile and not really that important. Also, I chose an absolutely awful time to take this screenshot - Reddit's traffic monitoring systems were dead the other day, hence the big gaps in some of the graphs.

The two most interesting graphs are the top two. It's immediately clear that we've almost doubled in pageviews over the past year, which is pretty impressive. If the 30th June is a good day, we might break 1 million again - Although we probably have, the gap in data from the other day is just confusing things a bit.

We've seen a similar trend in the number of unique visitors per month. Keep in mind that a unique visitor can be a guest or a logged-in /r/furry user: The system doesn't differentiate. Interestingly, the change in uniques isn't proportional to the change in pageviews - This means that, on average, each person to visit /r/furry views more pages per month now than they did a year ago.

I'm a little surprised by the drop in uniques this month though - You'd think uniques would be up with people getting off school and having more free time. Let's see if July brings a similar pattern. Do you have any suggestions for why the number of uniques has decreased in June? I don't.

Uniques per day and pageviews per day also tell an interesting story. You can see that the uniques per day has been pretty steady over the past 2 months, while the pageviews have been increasing - From 30k to 35k ish.

This past week has been especially good for both uniques and pageviews, with uniques consistently nearing 5k a day and pageviews touching 40k. What's happened over the last week that's so exciting? I kinda want to say the jar bandwagon was responsible for the first few days of increase, but I can't account for the rest of the week.

The last two graphs are pretty useless in their current, half-empty form. Check back in a couple of days and you'll be able to see proper curves. Notice the twin peaks every day - One from roughly 00:00-04:00 GMT (US prime) and another from 18:00-22:00 GMT (EU prime). As an aside, reliable sources tell me the best time to post a thread for maximum visibility is about 17:00 GMT, as the EU people will see it on the /new queue and the US people will see it on the front page.

Anyway, feel free to draw your own conclusions from the (admittedly limited) data presented. I'm interested to know what you think of the monthly changes!

You know what really irks me with some artists...

Furry Reddit - Mon 29 Jun 2015 - 17:35

"Hi, I have two open slots, first come first served." Just once again witnessed one of my favorite artist's slots go in THIRTY SECONDS. Why do they do this? What's wrong with making a waiting list, picking up people at random at, say, after couple of hours or so.

Thankfully most artists use the "leave a note here and I'll pick people up at random" which sounds more fair for us who don't spend every waking hour on the internet...

I just turned 18 today.

Furry Reddit - Mon 29 Jun 2015 - 13:34

Sorry for the random post, but I'll like to say that this community is real awesome. I've been a lurker here for 2 years, but chose an alternate account since I'm a closet furry. Though I hope this whole thing isn't a social taboo in the future. Anyway, thanks for reading! You guys are awesome.
