This is a story about a dog. This dog had large pointy ears, and a scraggly coat of fur, but he was a mutt. Born on the streets, he never had a good life. Each day was a struggle for food. Whenever he passed by people, they would kick him and shout at him. No one really cared about this dog, and he simply did what he could to stay alive.

One day, he was caught by the animal shelter. He was taken to a cage with other dogs. He didn't even grow up around other dogs, it had always been just him. He saw them as alien and beyond understanding. He had seen people, though. He knew people. And people scared him.

Each day, he laid in the back of his cage. People would come, and they seemed nice, but he didn't move. Just because people seemed nice, didn't mean they were. The other dogs would jump and bark and wag their tails, but he didn't understand any of that. He knew fear, and he knew being alone. Day after day passed, and no one even showed a bit of interest in him.

By the end, he was thin and weak. When the people who owned the shelter entered his cage and put a leash on him, he didn't even react. He was dragged slowly to the gas chamber, shut inside, and he laid down for the last time.

But what no one knows about this dog is that it only would have taken one person to truly care. One person to see the good in him. If one person had made the effort to love the dog and be patient with him, in spite of him knowing so little and being broken, then he would have been just as good as... no, better than the other dogs. Because he would have been loyal. He would have finally been taught about how good life could be, and how bright it is when people care and are genuine. And that dog would have been the best dog someone could ever hope for.

Unfortunately, this is something that people have stopped doing. No one has the time, or the energy, or the patience, to care about someone who is broken. No one wants to look for the good in someone who struggles to see happiness, because they assume it cannot be found. Sometimes, we can't make our own happiness all on our own. Sometimes, when we are beaten enough, we forget how to be happy. And it takes someone who truly cares to mend things.

Apologies for the late posting of this, it’s been a really busy week again. On Saturday I decided I need to get out of the house and wanting to go a bit further afield, ended up at the Leeds Zine Fair. I was on the fence about it, but a week full of general awfulness that came to a head on Friday resigned me to the fact that I needed a change of pace and scenery. I certainly got that in terms of scenery when I couldn’t find the venue. I managed to get to the road it was on and walked up and down the road, until finding it in the direction I was first going a little beyond where I gave up and turned around. In my defence it wasn’t signposted up the street at all, the only indication being the banner outside when you get to it.

With a few comics creators listed on the Footprint website, I thought there would be a bit more of a mix of comics and zines. It’s not going to be a popular opinion, but I’m not sure that zines are for me. It’s difficult to know where to start with them, and I don’t have a solid frame of reference to judge them on. I don’t understand them as a platform either. I get how historically they were cheap and easy way for people to communicate ideas on a range of niche or marginalised subjects in the past, but can’t wrap my head around how it now seems to that blogs and the like would be better suited to that? Surely they would be more effective and have a wider audience? However I can more than get behind people wanting to produce a physical object, I’ve mentioned more than a few times how I still prefer reading actual books to digital. While the organisers in producing there program and ‘zine in a day were using some really interesting print techniques, risographed and the like,  I found the cost of the majority of the very slim, handwritten and photocopied to be extremely off-putting.

Recently I’ve been making a more concerted effort to be to generally more open to people and have a more positive, accepting attitude and outlook on life. I’m also trying to be less rigid in my thinking so I’m more than open open to anyone willing to sing their praises, challenge me on their relevance and change my mind on them.  Perhaps the fact that they still have a very strong and dedicated fan base and passionate creators putting a lot of effort into the medium speaks to their appeal. I’d never deny anyone the chance to express themselves or limit that in anyway but at the moment I guess I just personally don’t ‘get’ them.

Regardless the main aim was to do something new, and it fulfilled that. I ended up chatting to a few people, a few like Nautical Mile Comics, I surprisingly knew already and still picked up a few things to make it worthwhile.

I went with the intention of picking up a few things from Kristyna Baczynski and despite wanting to reign in my spending a little bit, really wish I’d bought up a few more. I wrote a post about her comic Vessel recently and this time around I got Hand Me Down and A Measure Of Space. Once again I’m struck by how she illustrates the passage of time through her comic, some moments can linger while on other pages hundreds or years can pass by in a matter of panels. Both beautiful comics, I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing the longer story she has been working on this year.

One of the other two comics creators at the fair was Sophie Wright who had the adorable Meet Cute full of cute wolves and bunny rabbits in 50’s hairstyles and fashions. It’s a sweet little read told entirely though the casts facial expressions and actions, and I just couldn’t resist buying it.

Such a charming comic, I do however feel that after buying something like Baczynsk’s comics that Meet Cute might have been overpriced at £5 for a simple black and white comic. It’s stitched together but it’s simple print it doesn’t do justice to Wright’s delightful artwork. At the same time I think the sketch portraits of people she was doing at the fair on the fly were vastly under priced and left me wishing I’d have gotten one.

I’d been looking out for this one for ages and OK comics came through for me by having it back in stock. Jason Conquers America is a collection of rarities, interviews and tributes both from and too Norweigan cartoonist Jason. The inside cover has a full colour tribute featuring classic monsters by another of my favourite artists Mike Allred that makes this worth the price alone. I love the simple art and the deadpan humour of Jason’s comics and had already bought two of his other books this week. I’m hoping to interview him before the release of his next collection of short stories.

Third and last stop of the day, Forbidden Planet. On the way in I heard someone bemoaning that it’s more like a toy shop these days, and it does rather seem that way with the comics and books resigned to the basment. They’ve had the longest sale I’ve ever seen and have finally managed to pair them down into two unloved boxes near the stairs. I feel bad for Blank Slate Books overall. I’ve managed to buy all of Oliver East’s excellent Trains are Mint books for under a fiver. They were reduced to £2, but also, buy one get one free. So I grabbed Sleepyheads and got Playing Out for a friend as I already own it.I know unusual and non superhero books can be a bit of a hard sell at times but It’s a crime that Playing Out is in the £1 box! Set in Manchester with three teens, it should be instantly recognisable to anyone growing up in an English city who found the summer holidays dragging after three weeks. It’s one I might come back to on here in the future.

Terrible, overused meme aside, I did just finish putting together my first full PC build, and was wondering what other furs are running :D

I've got a Gigabyte 990FXA-UMD3 with an AMD FX-9370 4.4Ghz 8 core processor and a MSI R9 380 graphics card, all cooled by Corsair Blue LED fans and a Hydro H60 Liquid cooling system, and I store all my Yiff on a simple 2TB HDD with 16GB of Corsair Vengeance memory, all of this is then jam-packed into a full Corsair 760T White Graphite Tower.

So everyfur, post your builds if you want. I'm enjoying nerding out over parts and comparing....."case" sizes.

Moby - "We Are All Made of Stars"

So in an effort to get myself downvoted even more, here's another super awesome song that for some reason furries keep popping in my head when listening to it. I dunno what it is, I guess it's just that idea of all of us coming together. Yeah, we do "fall apart" (We have differences, people enter and leave the fandom, people pass away, and so on). But still, there's that whole "no one can stop us now - 'cause we are all made of stars".

That last bit references the idea that we are all space stuff - stardust essentially. We are all made from dust, and well, we all still manage to come together. And if we all come together and put our heads together and keep going we'll become something great.

I mean yeah, our fandom has its issues. We have block heads, we've had crooks, we've had drama, but we're still one awesome community that knows how to party and have a good time. We're still a community that centers around something we all love. And despite all the haters and problems, we're still here.

So let's keep on being what we love. Let's keep on bringing new people. Let's keep on coming together. 'Cause we are all literally made of stars.

While I appreciate and continue to always appreciate people talking to me, a huge change from many months ago, when barely anyone did. I'm finding myself constantly being buried alive in messages to a point were I just can't concentrate on a conversation. It's frustrating because I want to talk to everyone I talk to, but can't concentrate on a conversation due to wanting to respond as fast as possible. I always felt, that if I don't respond quickly enough, people might think I'm deliberately ignoring them. In a sense, I basically have an anxiety in losing friends because they felt like I was ignoring them, when in fact I just feel overwhelmed.

What should I do?

Within the past 24 hours, there have been posts on /r/furry claiming that two attendees of the upcoming Eurofurence convention in Berlin plan to intentionally spread HIV through unprotected sex. A chart tracking their potential sexual network labeled with names was provided with this. These claims were presented with no real evidence, and at least one person mentioned within the chart stated that the asserted associations related to them were false. We were conflicted in how we should deal what could be a very serious situation, but have resolved that removing these posts and releasing this statement ourselves would be the best course of action. We have these things to say:

1. First of all, whether you're going to a convention or not, be safe. Be smart and use protection. Know the facts on HIV and other STDs/STIs, and do not assume that a stranger will tell the truth about their sexual past or condition. Also know that there are many laws worldwide criminalizing the transmission of HIV, whether it be intentional or otherwise (it is illegal in Germany).

2. Sharing anyone's personal information (including actual names) is expressly prohibited by Reddit's administration and will result in account deletion.

3. While topics like this are undeniably important, we also take slander very seriously. We are discussing the addition of a rule against potentially slanderous content (it will likely be added to rule six), which would make incidences like this much more cut-and-dry in the future.

Our decision to remove these posts is in no way whatsoever meant to obscure, endorse or deny the seriousness sexual irresponsibility, or to imply that this topic is not "nice enough" to be shared here. These posts were removed for these two reasons only: one, because they violated Reddit's rules on disclosing personal information, and two, were proven to be at least partially slanderous. We are very sorry to anyone who was wrongfully accused by these posts and hope that the truth, whatever it may be, does come to light. Until then, posts sharing or reiterating the content in question will be subject to removal without warning.
