Bringing Adventure Back From The Brink
We love that tag! So much that we stole it! The Extincts: Quest for the Unicorn Horn is a new hardcover graphic novel. “A team of genetically-enhanced extinct animals embark on top-secret missions around the world in this new graphic novel series. Meet Scratch, Martie, Lug, and Quito, members of a secret organization called R.O.A.R., or the Rescue Ops Acquisition Rangers. When their boss, Dr. Z, finally calls on them for their first big mission, the team heads to Siberia to retrieve an ancient unicorn horn from the thawing permafrost. Scratch is thrilled at the chance to prove his worth to Dr. Z — but as soon as they land, the team runs into a mysterious enemy determined to take them down. With exciting missions, plenty of humor, and an environmental angle, this series starter from New York Times bestselling illustrator Scott Magoon is an action-packed adventure from start to finish.” The publisher has a lot more information.
“What Are Mursuits?” Everything You Need To Know
“What Are Mursuits?” Everything You Need To Know Xege Kheiru, Writer, Furry
05 Sep 2022
For those who’ve taken a deep dive into the furry fandom, you might be able to take a guess at what a mursuit is but for those who cannot, we’re here to clear everything up.
Before we jump into what a mursuit is, we’re going to be using the word “fursuit” a lot in this article so I think it’s important that everyone completely understands what a fursuit is. Fursuits are essentially custom made animal costumes typically of people’s fursonas for members of the fandom to wear. They will usually wear these to conventions to show off like any other cosplayer would.
A common misconception is that there is a sexual connotation to wearing a fursuit and we are here to say that this is not necessarily true at all. While yes, it can’t be denied that there are definitely people getting frisky in their fursuits, that is not the sole purpose of a fursuit, at its core, fursuits are just like any other cosplayers outfit, they are simply for a bit of fun. However, this ties perfectly into understanding what a mursuit is.
If you’re interested you can even check out our several other articles on fursuits and information on making your very own.
Now that everyone has a grasp on what a fursuit is, what on earth is a mursuit and how is it at all different? Wel, this is about to get a little explicit, but a mursuit is a fursuit that has had “alterations” made to it so that it is better suited for those aforementioned members of the fandom who like to get frisky in their suits. You can probably guess what these alterations entail, but if you haven’t got the greatest imagination, you can read this for a better idea.
Not A Mursuit, Just A Standard Fursuit
Do All Furries Own A Mursuit? It’s probably worth noting that owning a mursuit isn’t some sort of a qualification for becoming a furry. An already small percentage of the fandom actually engage in sexual activity in their fursuits and an even smaller percentage actually own mursuits. There are a few reasons for this. For one, obviously fursuits and mursuits are not everyone’s kink so not many people own them. However, likely what is the main reason is how pricey a fursuit is let alone a custom mursuit. A quality fursuit can cost upwards of $3000 and to spend that in one go just to fulfill a fetish is not something the average person is willing to do.
Upper Half Of A Mursuit Typically Just Looks Like A Fursuit
Image via Reddit
When Do Furries Use These Mursuits? You may be asking yourself right now that if most furries wear their fursuits at conventions, then where are these furries wearing their mursuits? I’m here to reassure you that these people aren’t wearing their mursuits to conventions, these suits are mostly reserved for more private situations. However, I say mostly because there are exclusive meetups for the more devious furries looking to get a little action and this is obviously a perfect opportunity to bust out the mursuit.
Contrary To Popular Belief, You Won’t Usually Find Mursuits Here
Where Can I Get A Mursuit? If all this talk about mursuits has piqued your interest, you might be wondering where you can get your hands on a suit of your own. Not to worry, because there are plenty of places for you to browse. Below we’ve provided a list of options for you to look through.
This is probably the most popular option for people looking to get a mursuit of their own as Etsy allows the customer to stay in touch with creator which means that you can get exactly what you ask for. Also, it’s probably the most reliable thanks to its refund policies, making it one of your safest options.
This is a bit of an iffier pick but it is still worth a look as you can always find some diamonds in the rough. While furaffinity is an art sharing site, occasionally you can find people advertising other things apart from art, such as in this case: mursuits. The issue with this is that there is no security in your purchases as the site is not designed for it, meaning the site is more a way to get in touch with sellers than it is to actually buy from sellers who you can purchase from separately from the site.
Much like Furaffinity, this isn’t an extremely reliable option for those looking to buy fursuits but it’s definitely worth a shot. Mursuit makers are few and far between so sometimes you do just have to look for alternative options.
However, above all, your best bet is getting in contact with normal fursuit makers and asking them if they’d be comfortable making a mursuit. This way you know you’re speaking to a reliable source and the worst possible outcome is they just say no I wouldn’t and they may even refer you to someone who can help.
Inaccurate Portrayal Of How Much A Fursuit Will Cost
How Much Does A Mursuit Cost?Mursuits will likely be around the same as a fursuit meaning it’s going to be in the ballpark of around $2000. Of course there are shortcuts and sacrifices in quality you can make to cut this price down, but if you’re looking for longevity in such an expensive purchase it’s not worth taking these shortcuts as they typically aren’t as durable or there’s errors with the suit.

King of… TV?
Interesting Disney news we got from Animation World Network: “Disney+ has begun development on a new live-action series based on the famous 1933 King Kong film, Deadline reports. Disney Branded Television is producing, with Paper Girls creator Stephany Folsom on board as writer and executive producer… According to Deadline, the series will be an ‘action-adventure drama that brings the classic monster story into the modern age, with a return to Skull Island and the dawn of a new Kong.’ The show will be based on Merian C. Cooper’s original films as well as the newer King Kong novelizations by Joe DeVito, digging deeper into Kong’s origin story and mysterious home.” Important side note: “This new King Kong series is not related to the Monsterverse movies from Legendary Entertainment, which, due to a complicated, tangled web of rights, could only use the name ‘Kong’ to refer to their giant ape in the films Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong. We’ll next see a Monsterverse Kong on the small screen with the animated series Skull Island via Netflix.” Big news on the big ape front.

And Speaking of Animal Super Heroes…
… and DC Comics, which we were, of course the DC League of Super-Pets animated feature is out in theaters and doing very well. So of course DC is right there with some brand-new tie-in material! DC League of Super-Pets: The Great Mxy-Up is a new graphic novel written by Heath Corson and illustrated by Bobby Timony. “There is nothing the Super Pets love more than spending time with their heroes, but they are finding it difficult to be taken seriously as members of the team when their humans just don’t understand them… When Mr. Mxyzptlk, a magical imp from the fifth dimension, arrives in Metropolis with a plan to wreak a little chaos and destruction, the Justice League is caught in his trap! The Super Pets will need to come up with a plan to prevent Mxy’s mischief from destroying the city—while somehow trying to rescue their human counterparts. The only problem is, they may need to team up with their greatest enemy to succeed, and they aren’t sure if they can trust her… ” Meanwhile, if you’d like to check out some of the original vintage Super-Pet stories, DC has been kind enough to put many of them together in the new Tails of the Super-Pets collection.

He’s IN The West!
If we’re being honest, that great superstar of Chinese myth and legend known as the Monkey King is basically a superhero. Well now, none other than DC Comics have taken that thought quite literally and given us The Monkey Prince — a new continuing series, which is part of their celebration of Asian-American creators. “Introducing the newest hero in the DCU, the great sage, equal to the heavens, better than his predecessor the legendary Monkey King, even better than the Justice League — and definitely the Teen Titans — (actually, all the heroes combined), everyone put your hands together for…the Monkey Prince! Marcus Sun moves around a lot because his adoptive parents are freelance henchpeople, so this month he finds himself as the new kid at Gotham City High School, where a mysterious man with pig features asks Marcus to walk through a water curtain to reveal himself as who Marcus really is…someone who has adventured through The Journey to the West, can transform into 72 different formations, can clone himself using his hairs, and is called… the Monkey Prince!” Written by Gene Luen Yang and illustrated by Bernard Chang, it’s out now.

Being a Popufur Is Not Just about Popularity
I am new to the furry/fursuiting community and have suddenly risen to popularity in a little over a month. It has been a great opportunity and has really made my life amazing. My only worry is not knowing what to do with it all. I worry that I soon will be labeled as a popufur and not be seen as the person I am but instead for my fame and name. I don't want that. I just was a simple person like the rest of all of you. What do you think I should do? It's impossible for me to talk to all of my fans, but I also don't want them to feel ignored and used. Thank you for the time.

Dear Furiend,
Interesting question, and thank you for posing it. To address this issue properly, one must first define what a "popufur" is. If you ask 50 furries what a popufur is, you will likely get 50 different answers. Like most things in the furry fandom, crystalline definitions are nowhere to be found. Heck, furries can't even define "furry" to everyone's satisfaction.
So, let's just go by Papabear's definition: to be a popufur, it is not enough just to be popular and have a large following; you must also be full of yourself, crave attention, behave in ways that are designed to attract attention, get angry when you don't get that attention, and, basically, be a furry for the reason that you are obsessed with being validated. This, as you might imagine, makes for a rather unpleasant personality. Popufurs are in the fandom because they discovered a subculture that, unlike in the mainstream, gives them attention and validation, and not so much because they love the anthropomorphic arts in their own right. In other words, they tend to be narcissists.
If the above does not describe who you are, then--at least, to this bear's mind--you are not behaving like a popufur. So, the question might next be: Why are you suddenly so popular? My guess is that you have either made or purchased a pawsome fursuit and that you are a good fursuit performer (since you mentioned fursuiting specifically and not, say, being an artist). This likely means that furries glom onto you for the very superficial reason that they like your fursuit. If, therefore, you wish to take a little attention off yourself, take the fursuit off and attend furmeets and furcons sans suit for a while. You can then more easily gauge how much people like you for you.
This is not to say you should quit fursuiting. I mean, I love fursuiting myself because I think it's wonderful how it breaks down barriers and people like to give me hugs and pose for pictures, which are things they would never do if I am just strolling through a hotel as myself. Fursuiting is great fun, so don't quit. What I do recommend for you, though, is that you spend more time exploring other aspects of the fandom, such as literature and gaming and movies. Diversify.
Meanwhile, when you DO fursuit, don't let it go to your head that furries give you so many compliments. Just thank them kindly and go on with your life. Don't try to "brand" yourself, don't strive to increase your following, don't be a media whore (forgive my French). Just be your fuzzy self and enjoy. Be gracious, be kind, be humble.
Hope that helps.
Hugs,
Papabear

Just Enjoy Music, Don't Analyze It
I just turned 23 on July 27th! Here's my question: I'm not a huge fan of Iron Maiden, but being a Christian, I decided to do some research and I found out that not only is their drummer a Christian (for real!), but their song "Rime Of The Ancient Mariner" is a Christian song ... allegorical it may be! So, since I enjoy a variety of music, how do you know which rock/metal - or other genres - bands to listen to and which ones are just plain trashy like Slipknot?
PenguinDareangel12
* * *
Dear PenguinDareangel12,
If you mean how do you tell by the lyrics, then the simplest thing to do is go to a website that posts music lyrics, the most obvious one being lyrics.com. Sometimes, it can be hard to tell just by lyrics, though, especially when you get some very poetic or symbolic or abstruse or, as in the case you cite, allegorical lyrics that are difficult to understand. Often, lyrics are very personal to the artist, self-referential, and hard to get unless you know the artist well.
If you're truly concerned as to whether a song is "Christian" enough for you, there are plenty of Christian rock bands you can listen to, as well as plain ol' church music. GodTube.com lists what it considers the 20 best Christian rock bands here.
As for mainstream rock, pop, and other genres, my thought is that you shouldn't worry about it. Just listen to what you enjoy. If you are a Christian in your heart, accidentally listening to some "bad" music is not going to make you turn Satanic. Music is to be enjoyed, not analyzed.
Cheers,
Papabear
