Does THIS Cat Dance Maybe?
Turns out there’s there’s another feature film in the works for everyone’s favorite lasagna-loving feline, Garfield. The big orange fellow has appeared in two previous live action/CGI films, both times voiced by Bill Murray. Now Alcon Entertainment is working on the famous feline’s first fully-animated feature film, where this time he’ll be voiced by Chris Pratt. (Is there anything that guy isn’t involved in?) Like many animated films of the past few years, this one features an impressive voice cast of well-known actors, including Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, Hannah Waddingham, Cecily Strong, and Ving Rhames. Interestingly, this new film is directed by Mark Dindal (of Cats Don’t Dance and Emperor’s New Groove fame), whom we have not heard from in a long long time. According to Animation World Network, Garfield should be out in mid-2024.
GFTV’s news service now available on dumbphones
Southeast Asia’s first furry media channel Global Furry Television (GFTV) recently expanded its news service. From Nov 10, 2022, nearly 300 million more people can access GFTV’s furry fandom news podcast – on their feature phones. This target audience is KaiOS and JioPhone users. To listen to the podcast, they must install the podcasting platform […]
What UP, Dog?
Animation news out of France, courtesy of Animation World Network: “Kittened is described as revolving around famous rapper Tough Dog, ‘who is challenged to a rap battle by the Kalixte, a rising star with millions of followers. A week before the battle, Tough Dog wakes up in the body of a kitten, with the kitten’s spirit in Tough Dog’s body. To reverse the situation back to normal, he has to ask Kim, a shy young girl, for help. In exchange, Tough Dog will teach her to become popular.'”. Currently the film is scheduled for release in 2025. We have a fairly good record of getting animated films from France released here in North America (Ernest & Celestine, anyone?), so hopefully this will get a chance as well.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past 5 years, then you might have no clue what this article is even about. Not to worry, we’ll catch you up to speed on everything you need to know about furry discord servers before we jump into the 5 best servers.
In short, Discord is a communication service that allows its users to message, voice and video call, stream their screens etc. You can use it to chat with friends, meet new people and most importantly build communities. One of the main features of Discord however are servers; they’re like group chats but for potentially thousands of people, with hundreds of text channels for hundreds of different subjects. Thousands of great communities have been built just through discord, and furry communities are no exception.
Discord’s emphasis on individuality and innovation, allowing its users to have unique banners, animated profile pictures, assign roles to a server’s members, unique permissions for specific roles, assistant bots, listening parties and more gives users almost complete freedom to do whatever they want. This makes it ideal for building and maintaining large communities.

Then, What’s a Furry Discord Server? As you might’ve been able to guess, a furry discord server is just a discord server exclusively for furries. While there is no way of verifying whether or not someone is actually a furry or just a troll, this issue is rectified pretty quickly by discord’s handy permanent ban feature. As well as this, most furry discord servers go through a validation process that makes users discuss their likes and dislikes, fursona (if you have one), age etc.
Furry communities can even have sub-communities. For example, furry Minecraft communities, furry role-playing communities or rather 18+ furry communities, where users can share NSFW (furry porn) art. While we are going to go through a list of the 10 (what we think are) best furry communities, this is more of a general overview, so, there’s a good chance that we won’t cover a community that takes your fancy as much.

Websites such as discord.me provide a database of hundreds of thousands of discord servers and categorize them based on their tags. It’s also a great place to advertise your own server, not even necessarily a furry one, if you are trying to build your own community. Pretty much any server with a platinum subscription you can be sure is legit, but you’re here to find the best of the best. Sites like top.gg , discordservers.com and disboard.org all also provide the same service.
Why Should I Join a Furry Discord Server?
Meeting New People: With that whole pandemic thing going on, something that has become increasingly difficult is meeting new people, let alone people who share your interests. Furry discord servers (any discord server) essentially puts you in a room with thousands of people who share the exact same interest as you. Given that mainstream media is typically hostile to the furry fandom, furry discord servers provide a safe space to meet new people where you can be pretty sure that you aren’t just being used as the butt of a joke.
Share Your Art: Although sites like Furrafinity and DeviantArt allow you to share your art with others, none of them really allow for live discussion about your art like discord servers do. Sure you can read comments or whatever, but with furry discord servers that typically have a dedicated art channel, users can send any of their art and discuss it, whether it be praise or constructive criticism. It’s a great way to improve your fursona or get inspiration if you are looking to make one.
Take Part in Events: If you are looking for a way to keep up to date on upcoming furry events such as meetups or conventions, then a discord server is perfect for you. With access to thousands of furries, it’s easy to ask for recommendations on events to go to or ask about what to expect from one if you’ve never been.
Look For Contests and Giveaways: Furry contests are few and far apart in non-furry discord servers, which is why furry discord servers are so great. Contests typically boil down to an art or animation contest and can even sometimes have prizes. Better yet, some furry discord servers will occasionally do furry giveaways with prizes like fursuit accessories if that’s something you’re interested in.
Gaming Communities: Sometimes finding the right people to play your favorite games with can be really difficult, luckily discord caters more towards the gaming community than anything. A lot of furry discord servers have a gaming sub-category within them for fellow furries looking to play games with each other.

The Typical Joining ProcessUnlike a lot of servers, furry discords are a lot more scrupulous with who they let in. Thanks to their extreme marginalization by mainstream media, they can get quite a bit of hate. Because of this, a lot of servers will go through a similar process to verify your furriness.
- You’ll be asked to click some sort of verification button that begins an invisible timer on the joining process
- After clicking the verification button you will likely be DM’d an automated response with several prompts like “What is your fursona name?”, “How old are you?” , “How specifically did you find our server?” etc.
- Once you have answered the prompts, your entry to the server will be reviewed by one of the server staff who will ask a follow up question like “Why are you looking to join the server?”.
- Once this is answered, the staff will decide whether or not they should let you in, and given you’re not blatantly trolling, they will let you in to the server.
Sidenote, many servers have an introduction channel where you can introduce yourself to other members while you wait for your request to join the server to be reviewed. Now, let’s get into the list.

Paradox PawsIf you, like me, don’t want to spend hours waiting for verification to get into a server, then Paradox Paws is perfect for you. They are a lot more lenient with their verification process while maintaining a non-toxic community that is pretty welcoming even if you are unsure how you feel about the furry fandom. Some members in the server aren’t even furries but just supporters of the community! This makes the server great if you are new to the furry fandom as there is no elitism about how long you have spent in it.
Looking for a movie or games night? Paradox Paws has your back with their weekly games and movie night.
Also, if you are looking for a furry gaming community, then look not further, as Paradox Paws put a huge emphasis on its gaming community, more specifically, Minecraft and Pokemon. They even have a dedicated Minecraft server!
Planet FloofPlanet Floof is one of the few furry discord servers that is explicitly SFW… I mean seriously, they do not tolerate NSFW content. Anything from yiff porn to naked furries will result in an almost immediate ban on this server. This makes it perfect for the younger furry audience who are still looking to meet other furries. As well as this, like most furry discord servers, there is a large emphasis on LGBT and gender positivity in this server, xenophobia is not tolerated.
They also have an art advertising channel for furry artists looking to self-promote or network themselves and since they are SFW only, you don’t have to worry about furry porn in the art channel. This also doubles as an opportunity for furries looking to commission someone to make a piece for them to get in direct contact with their artist.
Much like Paradox Paws, they don’t have a particularly grueling verification process either, you simply have to explain what was appealing about the server to you and whether or not you are a furry. Of course they are less likely to let you in if you aren’t a furry, but they are pretty welcoming regardless.

Also, Thanks to their dedicated roleplaying channel, this server is great for any furries who’ve been looking for a safe space to roleplay with hundreds of others. Or, if that doesn’t tickle your fancy, this server has a pokemon bot… you can literally play pokemon on discord with this bot. Pokemon will randomly appear in the text channel and the first person to type the catch command can catch it. You can battle other furries with your teams and trade pokemon, it’s really cool.
The staff in this server are really helpful as well, joining a new server can be a bit confusing but if you just ask, they are quite often happy to help with any issues you’re having. Some of the members are even musicians and
The Furry ForestFurry Forest is one of the less safe for work entries on this list due to its NSFW art channels. It’s also one of the smaller communities but they describe themselves as an environment “away from the chaos of other fur servers” and that they are. With only 600 people, this server is much quieter compared to the previous three and entry into the server isn’t really difficult at all.
They’re also pretty frequent with art giveaways for members who are willing to invite a friend as entry into the giveaway!

West’s HavenThis one was tricky because it was (from what I found) the hardest server to get into. However, this difficulty is not without reason, they claim to have, and I’m still not entirely sure how this works, a “Zero-Raider Entry System”. Regardless of whatever Tony Stark technology they have running behind the scenes on this server, it is the safest space for furries and non-furries alike to express their interest. Furry servers, more than any other discord servers, get raided like crazy whether it be homophobic or transphobic attacks. There is an absolute zero-tolerance policy on top of the scrupulous verification that you have to go through. If you’re looking for a safe place to hunker down and just let your hair loose on discord, West’s Haven is your best bet.
They even have personalized roles, an art channel, a dedicated events team, and a “no-drama guarantee”.
How Do I Start My Own Furry Discord Server?Starting a discord server of your own is the easy part. Growing a community of your own however can be a bit more challenging. If you are looking to start a large community like the ones listed above, you need one of two things: pre-existing clout or a good reason for people to join. Here’s some steps you can take to start building the server.
- Before you do anything, make the server look presentable. Make dedicated text channels, verification bots, automatic role-assignment, the full works!
- The less professional a server looks, unless it’s a server for friends, the less likely people are to stay on it
- Create quirky roles that give people a sense of progression and welcoming into the server. Some servers allow users to climb up the ranks depending on their activity in it.
- Start inviting people. This could be your friends or people you know may be interested.
- If you’re struggling to find people to invite, consider checking out furry subreddits or other social media to see if you can spark any interest there. Hopefully these people can start some initial buzz; encourage them to invite friends of their own.
- Assign people you know you can trust to moderate the server, you’re gonna need it. There’s a good chance the server could get raided and trolled so it’s key to have people on at all times who can handle that sort of thing
- While this is optional, if your server is getting traction, you should consider some paid advertisement on sites like discord.me as if your server has a growing and active community, people looking for furry communities will feel more inclined to join.
- Also, if you do decide to advertise on these sites, make sure you are marking your server with relevant keywords such as “furry” or “yiff” as it gives it a better chance of being found by users.
- Host weekly or even daily events. This can be a giveaway, a competition, movie nights, gaming sessions, anything you wish really. As long as it keeps the users of the server engaged, it should be alright. This is to maintain activity on the server.
Of course this isn’t a guaranteed route to success, luck will always play a big factor on whether or not your community is thriving, but those are just some of the steps you can take to increase your chances of success greatly.

Are There Any Discord Alternatives? If, for some reason, you have no interest in using Discord, there are several text-based communities out there that are equally if not bigger than some of the aforementioned Discord servers. Social media like twitter, reddit, even VRChat, has some great furry communities. Here’s just a few of the furry communities in each.
Reddit: Let’s just get the easiest and most obvious out of the way, r/furry is one of the largest furry subreddits that you can find. It has around 270,000 members as of the publication of this article and is predominantly used to share and discuss furry art. Then there is r/fursuit, with about 20,000 members, it’s a community for furries to share and discuss their fursuits. If you’re looking for something a little more explicit, one of the biggest furry porn subreddits is r/yiff, where around 300,000 members can share their furry porn. If you’re struggling to find suitable subreddits to post to, consider checking out this article on the best reddit communities for furries for some inspiration.
Twitter: While its often joked that twitter is just a toxic cesspit, you can find some really loveable people on there. Some good users to follow if you’re looking for safe furry communities on twitter would firstly have to be Furry Valley. They have their own Discord server and telegram if that tickles your fancy. They have a big gaming community under their belt as well, more specifically Animal Crossing, Pokemon and Rainbow Six Siege. Also, Furs Of Color serves a more specific purpose because, as you could probably guess, it’s a community for furries who are also people of color. It does the same thing as pretty much any twitter community, but is specifically inclusive of people of color.
VRChat: With the growing popularity of VTubers, this is an exciting one to discuss because things start to get really interesting. Although VRChat is less accessible to those who don’t have a PC and such, some of the communities on this game are just buzzing with personality. Firstly, there is TailBass which is a virtual dance coordination group that has live furry DJs playing in VRChat. If that isn’t brilliant enough, they created an event called HexFurryfest, which is a virtual furry rave that takes place two times a year. There’s also RubberDragonLabs which a bit more on the NSFW side of VRChat as its a community centered around the artwork of Jackie Demon who depicts a rubber species of furry, in… let’s just say… compromising positions.
Now go and join a furry community and explore this beautiful, furry world!

Tips on Picking a Fursona
Please can you give any advice on how to actually go about making a fursona? I'm new to the furry fandom.
Harry
* * *
Hi, Harry,
Welcome to the fandom, and thanks for your question.
As with fursuits, many furries believe they must have a fursona to be in the fandom, so the first thing I wish to make clear is that you do not need a fursona to enjoy being a furry. Fursonas started out, obviously enough, when furries started role-playing games (online and board MPG, typically) and doing IRC chats, so it was natural to create a furry character, give it a name, personality, and so on to interact with other furries. And, naturally as well, the fursona leaped out of the gaming world into the in-person of cons and meets.
There are no rules to developing a fursona, except please do not steal other people's characters. That's just not cool. Period. Another rule is don't just take a character from a movie or TV show and say, like, "I'm Donatello from TMNT" or "I'm Humphrey from Alpha and Omega." So awfully boring and also risks copyright violations, although not likely anyone will put you in jail for it (once saw Brer Fox at a furcon, and I doubt they got in trouble).
What sets the furry fandom apart from other fandoms is that we pride ourselves on being original and also not being associated with any kind of franchise. It's the creativity and imaginative expression that draws many fervent furries into the fluffy fold.
That said, there are two approaches to creating a fursona: 1) the fursona that is a very personal expression of oneself; 2) the fursona that is just a tool for use in RPGs and the specs aren't important so long as the character is fire. This is why you get some of the more superficial furs striving to buy or make the most pawsome artwork and fursuits no matter the cost. But, often, if you ask them why they made, say, a multicolor griffin with LED eyes and animatronic wings, they'll just say it was because they wanted something that was a total snack that would make furries shout uwu! In other words, they are validation seekers, nothing more.
A lot of people, especially the ones in group 2, can't think of anything original themselves, so they go out and purchase fursonas (or copy one and make a few changes that don't hide the fact they stole the idea). And there are artists out there who will auction original species creations. Now we're getting into the whole open/closed/semi-open species thing that one should be aware of. There are certain species out there that are original creations and the artists who made them keep a tight rein on them. A "closed species" is one in which an artist will allow you to purchase the character, but you cannot change it in any way and you can't profit off the character by, say, selling artwork featuring said character. An open species is one that you are free to use (an example is the Dutch Angel Dragon created by the fursuiter Telephone) but you can't modify it so much that it is no longer recognizable as the species intended (DADs must have certain qualities, both physical and physiological) to be considered DADs. Finally, a semi-open species must be purchased like a closed species, but there are fewer restrictions on modifying them.
So much for unoriginality, stealing, and buying fursonas as short-cuts. Let's get into the funnester activity of creating your fursona.
If you're like me and the majority of furries, your fursona is a very personal part of you. Many people start off with a beloved species (for me, obviously, it's bears; my husband prefers dragons, but created a hybrid dragon-bear wizard fursona), so that is a good start. Whether it's dogs or horses or lizards or birds or mythologicals or fish, begin with a species. Have more than one fave? You might try a hybrid species, which combines two or more species. While furries are traditionally animal anthros, in more recent years I've been seeing combinations with plant species and cyborg tech (protogens and primagens are very popular, although I feel that if the fursona is all tech it loses the furry aspect and is just a robot). So, that's the first step: picking a species that you like.
Step two involves the more superficial aspects of appearance: colors, types of fur/scales/feathers, features like horns, wings, LED enhancements, types of paws, bipedal or quad, etc. etc. Also, is your fursona the kind of anthro who wears clothes or walks in the fur?
Next, occupation and time period. What does your fursona do? Are they a space pirate? A wizard? A private eye? A U.S. Marine? A simple college student? A punk rock musician from the 1970s? An exotic dancer? A furry superhero? A Mexican wrestler? A Zulu warrior? So many choices, and so many time periods to choose from.
Personality is another aspect of the fursona. Your fursona's personality doesn't have to match yours. For example, Grubbs Grizzly (my OC) is a very laid-back southerner who loves nothing better than to fish and drink beer, while I am a deadline-oriented, anxious spazz who is not a great fan of fishing. On the other paw, they can be very much like you.
Oh, and despite what some gatekeepers say, your fursona doesn't have to be the same race as you (this one furry I know was criticized because he is black and certain people were complaining his OC wasn't ghetto--sheesh) or the same sex, for that matter. And, just because your fursona is, say, female and you're male, doesn't mean you are trans (although you can be, natch). I know another furry who is a male and has a female fursona because he wanted to try to see how the other side lives and see what reactions he would get. He was straight. I find fursonas to be a marvelous tool for exploring one's own identity; kind of like how people used to experiment with sex and drugs in college (and still do, but I'm thinking back to the 70's and 60's).
Finally, you don't have to stick just with one OC. Many furries have multiple fursonas they use for different occasions or however the mood strikes them.
Bottom line here is that if you are struggling to pick an fursona for yourself, start with three things: 1) Don't limit yourself and let your imagination run wild; 2) don't listen to what people say you should make for a fursona, don't listen to gatekeepers, and never listen to someone who says, "No, you can't do that"; and 3) have FUN with it!
Hope that helps!

What started as a simple video-sharing app has quickly grown into a full-blown phenomenon, with users uploading and watching videos on their phones like never before. On top of it all, the popularity of TikTok among people who love animals or what we commonly refer to as furries have only led to further growth in this niche. Read on for more details about this exciting new social media platform and how you can get involved if you have an affinity for animals of the furry kind…
What Is TikTok?For those of you who have been living under a rock for the better part of 4 years, TikTok is an app that allows users to make and share videos with a variety of different themes. The content can be anything from comedy, to musical performances, to short skits and so much more, although the app does have some strict rules about what content can be posted, for reasons we’ll get into later. TikTok also allows users to connect with one another through comments and even share content with their friends on other social media platforms.
With its extremely addictive “For You” page system and being one of the most used apps let alone social media platforms in the world right now, TikTok has given birth to millions of sub-communities within the broader TikTok community. One of these communities happens to be the furry fandom which has now found itself a pretty comfortable home on TikTok.

What Is A Furry? If you don’t know what TikTok is, there’s a pretty good chance you have no idea what a furry is and that’s not a problem at all. Furries are people who have an interest in fictional anthropomorphic animals or rather fictional animals that bear human characteristics such as the ability to talk or to walk on two feet. Furry characters can actually be seen dotted around pop culture quite frequently such as in basically the entirety of Zootopia or maybe the more recent 2022 release, The Bad Guys.

Now, if you’re a member of the furry fandom then you know, that’s pretty broad and vague and that’s because Furry TikTok even has sub-communities within the sub-community itself. This ranges from fursuiting to furry art to furry hypnosis.
If you’re looking to become a Furry TikTok creator, the best way to use Furry TikTok is to create a profile and then post content that reflects what furry is all about. This can be anything from a video expressing your own feelings about being a furry to a music video featuring your favorite furry-themed song. You can also post photos and other visuals, as well as texts like poems or even comics. You can also use Furry TikTok to connect with and meet other people who share your interests. The easiest way to do this is to comment on other videos, especially those that are related to furry. When you comment, make sure that it’s a positive, friendly message because this will be the first thing the person sees when they go to view your video. Also, make sure to tag your video with relevant hashtags. No other furries are going to find your content if you aren’t letting TikTok know with hashtags the kind of content you are making, hashtags like #furry or #furtok will help you draw some attention to your page.

The Furry Community On TikTokThe furry community is one of the biggest and most active communities on TikTok, with millions of furries sharing their art, videos, and other content on the app every day. While not everybody who uses TikTok is a furry (some just like to use the app as a fun way to pass the time), a large number of users are furries, making it a great place to find people who share your interests. Furry is a subculture that has been around for decades, and it’s one that can include anybody who is interested in anthropomorphism, the belief that human and non-human animals can be given human traits. This can include a wide variety of things, like dressing up in costumes that resemble animals, as well as a strong interest in animals and nature in general. If you’re a furry, TikTok is a great way to connect with others who share this interest. You can find furry communities on the app by searching for hashtags like #furry, #furrytiktok, and so on. There are also some official TikTok furry groups that you can join.
You can expect to find an extremely wide variety of content with everything from fursuit tutorials to furry animations to skits performed in fursuits.
Some Furry TikTok Creators You Should Be Aware OfConsidering we’re covering all this information about Furry TikTok, it’s also worth covering some Furry TikTok content creators that we think you should be aware of. Either because we think they make some great content or because they are just the most popular on the platform right now.
Miraibaby (Felix The Calico)This is one of the more popular creators on the list, and they are actually also a fursuit maker as well as a Tiktokker. A lot of their TikToks are actually used as promotion for their Kemono fursuit business, but they do this in a funny little skit format.
Ballpitmutt (BALLPIT )Ballpittmut is another fursuiting Tiktokker who makes skits and memes. However, on top of this, ballpitmutt does not shy away from throwing on the camera and doing the latest dance trend on Tiktok in their green dog fursuit head and paws.
Rubensmagiclab (Ruben)Ruben is a furry artist and a fursuit maker who creates slightly different content from the previous two. Instead of skits and parodies, Ruben gives a much clearer insight into what it takes to make a fursuit and the intricacies of the fursuits you see a lot of furries wearing nowadays

Other Ways To Find Furry Friends On TikTokIf you’d like to meet and connect with other furries on TikTok but don’t want to comment on videos in the hopes that someone will respond, there are a few other options. TikTok also features group chats and direct messaging, making it easy to talk to other users and make new furry friends. You can also use TikTok to attend furry meetups. This can be a great way to meet people in your area that share your interests, and it doesn’t even have to be face-to-face. There are furry meetup groups on TikTok that organize online meetups where furries can hang out, chat, and even watch and comment on videos together.
Is Furry TikTok Safe? There are major misconceptions about both the furry fandom and TikTok. For one, the furry fandom is generally a safe space as long as you are cautious about the people that you involve yourself with. Of course, there are weirdos and creeps but people like that can be found anywhere on the internet.
As well as this, TikTok is a very safe app, with a lot of thought and consideration put into the design of the platform to make sure that users are protected. TikTok also has a very strict set of rules in place. Users who violate these rules can have their accounts taken down, so it’s important to be aware of them. Because of the general safety of TikTok, Furry TikTok is a safe place for furries to connect and share their love for anthro animals. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when using the app. TikTok is a social media platform, so it’s best to be careful what you post. Avoid posting anything you wouldn’t want others to see, and if you’re feeling vulnerable and need to reach out to somebody, there are some great support and crisis lines you can call.

THIS Cat Returns
Your ever-loving edotter got a chance to see a preview screening of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, the upcoming animated feature from Dreamworks Animation, directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. Here’s the basic plot summary: The unstoppable adventurer Puss in Boots discovers that he has burned up eight of his nine lives through a series of mishaps. He goes on a desperate quest to find a fallen star with magic wishing powers, hoping to restore his invulnerability. Trouble is, the cat has lots of competition for the star — and a malevolent force following right behind him. So here are some Spoiler-Free thoughts about the film: See It, as soon as you can. Not only is this a cracking good adventure film, darker than you expect it to be in places, but it’s also quite easily the furriest film ever in the Shrek universe. In fact, there’s a wolf in this film who could easily give the head Bad Guy a run for his money. This new film is coming to theaters on December 21st.

Over the month of May, Singaporean furry media channel Global Furry Television held a survey to explore the subject of bullying – toward, from and among furries. This survey – aptly coded PROS-02 – is the second iteration by the media channel since their COVID-19 survey in 2020. PROS-02 is the first-ever survey on such […]

The Chicken Go Book Book Book
And yet more animated book adaptations. We got this from Animation World Network: “Apple TV+ just released a trailer for its newest animated series, Interrupting Chicken, based on the 2011 Caldecott Honor-winning book series written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein. The preschool series introduces children to the joy of creative writing – starting with a little young chicken named Piper, who has a habit of interrupting story time! Every time Piper hears a story, she can’t help but jump in, ask questions, and let her imagination run wild.” The new series premiers on November 18th, and the trailer is up on line.
Witch Way to Go
Another professional character designer we met at Lightbox last month was Ainsworth Lin. Their personal animation project is called The Hedge Witch, and it goes like this: “The Hedge Witch follows the adventures of Adam, Misha, and Butters as they slowly unravel the mysteries in and around the sleepy town of Flatroot, Washington. Together, they investigate cold cases, encounter mythological creatures, and fight off supernatural entities.” Many of them not human but so, so interesting. Visit the web site to find out more about it — and other projects and designs they’ve worked on too.

Tick Trouble
I had huge amounts of ticks on my head recently. Should I be worried? I ask because I hear ticks can kill via Lyme Disease/Meningitis and other ailments. I think I might have an infestation, which means I need Zyklon B to fumigate my house. Who should I call to put that chemical into my house, fumigator wise?

Hi, Sergie,
Well, well, this is not the type of question Papabear usually gets, but I'll tackle it! Thanks for giving me something different to discuss.
First of all, not all tick species carry diseases such as Lyme Disease. Also, ticks tend to stay outdoors (preferring to hang out in underbrush in humid areas waiting for an animal to pass by they can jump on). So, it is likely you got them outside and brought some in the house after they pounced you.
If you haven't yet, get them off of you. Since they are on your scalp, you likely could use some help. Have someone get tweezers and slowly pull the ticks off one by one. Do not twist or break the ticks but pull them in a straight line out of your skin. Once pulled out, flush them down the toilet (ticks are tough and hard to kill by crushing or stomping them, so use the plumbing).
Ticks, surprisingly, do not live long indoors. They typically can't stand the low humidity levels and die within a few hours. So, you don't need to fumigate your home. Instead, go around the house and vacuum and thoroughly clean EVERYthing. You can do this with nontoxic treatments. Sprinkle table salt or boric acid in places you find ticks; spray areas (and ticks) with dish detergent, rubbing alcohol, or bleach (obviously, don't spray bleach on fabrics). You can also use a solution of eucalyptus oil and water (four ounces of water with 20 drops of oil) to spray inside the house. Finally, if you want, you can try Wondercide flea and tick spray, which is supposedly nontoxic. Keep spraying until you are free of ticks.
Next, you should fumigate outside near your house. Wondercide also makes a product for outside use that is supposed to be safe for gardens and yards. You can also hire an exterminator, of course. A more organic solution is to first remove undergrowth, tall grass, shrubs etc. from near your home and then treat the area with sprays.
There are several organic sprays that are good for outdoor use. Eucalyptus oil (as mentioned above), cedar oil, and neem oil (neem is a type of tree that has a natural pesticide property--Nature is so cool). Because ticks like warm, moist soil and shrubby areas, you can use something called diatomaceous soil to kill them. This is a powder made of dried diatoms (tiny plant organisms) that are so dry that when a pest like a tick encounters this stuff it basically sucks all the moisture out of them and turns them into tick jerky. Very effective.
Do not fumigate your home unnecessarily. Especially with some toxic chemicals. Try these natural approaches first.
Hugs,

FWG Monthly Newsletter: November 2022
Another month down, and we make it through to November already! I hope everyone found a great new furry book to enjoy during Furry Book Month, either through our novel bundle (which might still be up for a few hours before I take it down after work, so get in quick if it is!), or through the content we shared over the month.
We also saw Oxfurred Comma a couple of weeks ago. For two days, we shared plenty of writing advice and information across a wide variety of topics. Every panel is available for viewing on our Twitch channel, so if there’s anything you missed, or something you want to watch again, it’s all there for you!
For the first time, the Furry Writers Guild ran a novel bundle, with 9 books provided by guild members for purchase. The proceeds from this bundle will be shared amongst the authors, with the guild also taking a cut for fundraising. This bundle appeared to go well, with plenty of sales at the $10 minimum price – and above! Thank you to everyone who purchased the bundle – I hope you enjoy all nine of your new books!
Of course, we want every year to be better than the last. If there is something you want to see from Furry Book Month or Oxfurred Comma, we would be very happy to hear it. This can include ideas for theming with any future book bundles, as we are certainly interested in running more in the future. The Furry Writers Guild is here to improve the reach and voice for furry writers – please let us know how we can improve this!
Before going into the usual market updates, we have a new publisher to highlight. Blackwarren Books is a new furry-friendly publisher with a strong focus on LGBTQ+ characters and authors. They are currently open for novel submissions, and will be included on our Furry Markets Page going forward. Please check them out if you have anything ready to submit.
