So I used to like being furry...
I discovered the fandom in 2006. Officially joined up in November 2008. Built my first character a few months later. I was still in high school at the time. Went to RF '09, '10, and '11. All three times I had an absolute blast. I wrote that people liked and made a damn good attempt at a podcast that I had to cancel after the first episode because I was about to be homeless.
Ever since 2012, I've liked being part of the community less and less. All of the tropes repeat themselves weekly, sometimes daily. The good folks I meet in the fandom either leave or turn into bad folks. Don't even get me started on relationships. But not once since 2006 have I lost the appeal for furry art, characters, and the amazing potential stories behind them. I feel exhausted and burned out by how repetitive people in the fandom seem to be. I dove completely head first into the community in my first few years, but the more I saw and the more involved I became, the closer to the fringes I got. Some of that failure is on me, some isn't, but the fact I feel so distant and disconnected from a community that I used to adore makes me so sad.
I feel wistful, thinking about how hard I used to dance at RF, reviewing and writing stories with the folks on Furrag, and interviewing Meesh on my show. Now all I can think about is, 'Holy shit... how many more times do I have to hear these 15 year old iPhone kids complain about how terrible their life is? And how did the staff of FA screw up today? And what terrible shit is 2 saying to get attention now?'
The community I see now doesn't look like the one I saw when I was 18. I'm a far different person now, for sure, but so is everyone else. Six years is plenty of change for a fandom filled mostly with young adults. I'm mostly writing this to vent, but also because I'm genuinely sad that I feel so apart from furry now. Am I the only one? Or am I missing something critical?
Edit: Suppose it's worth mentioning that I'm 24 in February. I only spent half a year in university and dropped out. It feels like "being in college" is the only thing more universal in the fandom than "I hate CSI."

Long time lurker introducing himself
Hey there, /r/furry.
I've been around this subreddit for a while now and have finally decided to make myself known.
My name is Khazu and I'm a hyena, I've seen there are quite a few 'Yenas around already. I've been a furry for some years now, but never really got around to get involved with the community much, spending my time mostly in skype chats or lurking elsewhere. You can guess I'm kinda shy and not really used talking to people that much. I'm an IT guy in training and spend most of my free time playing games, mostly MMOs, but other single player RPGs as well. I used to draw a bit in my free time (basicly all I did during lunchbrakes in school), but don't expect anything too great.
So yeah, that's me. Feel free to ask me for my skype, as I try to socialise a bit more. Telegram should be fine too, I'm waiting to try that out.
And yeah, seperate account, because I'd rather not have people find my furry stuff.

My Mate is Doing Commissions to Help Pay for College!
I really hate to post something that sounds like a promotion, as that's kind of lame in my book, so I really appreciate your patience <3
My mate, TheBlueishOne, is a super talented digital artist who LOVES to draw for people. As in, she adores it. She's very friendly and works one-on-one with each person she's drawing for to make sure its perfect! Also, for those short on cash or newer to the fandom, her prices are VERY reasonable!
That being said, she and I are in Audio Production school together, and she's having a little trouble making ends meet every month on her tuition, and could really use some assistance. That being said, I decided to take the liberty of plugging her to a bunch of fuzzbutts who may be interested!
Again, I'm sorry if this sounds rude or like a shameless plug, but as her mate it would mean the absolute world to me (and her as well) <3

So, I stumbled into the fandom... And never went out again.
This might be both confusing and badly written since english isn't my native language, but it contains a small confession of sorts.
As the title says, a few years back I ventured into the furry/anthro fandom mostly for my beer-fueled amusement. I had no real grasp about it besides the somewhat vitriolic things you read on the internet and decided that I should make up my own mind about it all. Quite a few webpages was sifted through and that was it, or so I thought. But I went back, sober this time and I started reading stories that people shared. I then went back on-line again and checked out some pictures, thinking "Hey, this isn't half bad." Do note that a certain amount of secrecy had to be applied due to the fact that wife, family and friends are of the somewhat narrow-minded kind. So I kept coming back to the fandom, always lurking and trying to get a grip on what I really thought about it because there was this weird "connection", lacking a better word, that just made me feel at ease. And now, after years and years of lurking, I know what it was.
