Cat vs. Dog, Of Course

In-Fur-Nation - Tue 17 Sep 2024 - 01:47

We’ve covered Good Boy from Source Point Press before… but how about one of Good Boy Flint’s most dangerous adversaries? Well it turns out last year Source Point gave that very feline her own moment to shine with the Bad Girl Premium Ash Can. “From the pages of Good Boy, Bad Girl follows an excommunicated mercenary who is pulled back into service for one reason: Kill Flint Sparx.” It’s still available, written by Garrett Gunn and illustrated by Kit Wallis.

Article Content Introduction In the sprawling universe of Fortnite, personalization is key. Whether you’re suiting up for battle or just looking to stand out in the crowd, skins are the ultimate way to show off your unique style. For the furry community and fans of anthropomorphic characters, Fortnite offers a variety of skins that allow players to embrace their love of animal traits in a fun and fierce way.

From wolves to cybernetic cats, Fortnite has evolved to offer a fantastic range of skins that speak to the furry aesthetic. These skins don’t just look good; they carry with them a certain personality and flair that reflects the inner animal of the player wearing them. Whether you’re a casual gamer or a dedicated furry fan, choosing the right skin can make all the difference. What Makes a Great Furry Skin? Before we dive into our rankings, let’s talk about what makes a great furry skin in Fortnite. Furry skins typically revolve around animalistic characteristics, combining both human and animal traits in a way that’s visually appealing and thematically exciting. The best furry skins stand out for their creativity, evolution, and how well they integrate these traits into the battle-ready design.

Here are a few factors that set top furry skins apart:

  • Customization and Evolution: The best furry skins often come with multiple stages or styles, allowing players to evolve their look as they progress in the game.
  • Detail and Creativity: Furry skins that capture intricate animal traits—whether it’s fur patterns, glowing eyes, or armor inspired by the animal kingdom—tend to leave a lasting impression.
  • Personality: The personality of the skin matters just as much as its design. Does the skin come with an emote or special animations that make it more fun to play? How does it reflect your unique playstyle?

For the furry community, it’s all about expressing that connection to animals, whether through subtle nods like masks or full-on beastly transformations.

Furry Fandom Meets Fortnite Fortnite has long been known for bringing different fandoms together, and the furry community is no exception. Whether you’re new to the furry world or a long-time fan, the game offers plenty of ways to connect with your love for all things anthropomorphic. In fact, Fortnite‘s creative and playful approach to skins means you can find something that fits your specific furry interests, be it wolves, cats, or even bears.

The rise of Fortnite skins with anthropomorphic traits has also created a fun crossover between the gaming and furry communities. For furry fans, it’s an exciting opportunity to showcase their passion in one of the most popular games in the world, and the diverse options allow players to find a skin that resonates with their inner beast.

Now without further ado, let’s get into this list!

Kit Release Date: Chapter 2, Season 3 (Battle Pass)

Kit is the adorable offspring of Meowscles and was introduced in Chapter 2, Season 3’s Battle Pass. Following in his father’s footsteps, Kit rides into battle in a mechanical suit, offering a cute yet formidable design. Unlike his dad, Kit has a more playful appearance, with a youthful charm that contrasts with his tech-heavy armor. The skin comes with a variety of styles, making it customizable to suit the player’s taste.

Kit is a perfect example of how Fortnite mixes humor and creativity with its skins. His small stature combined with the large, tech-powered suit gives him an amusing yet battle-ready look. It’s perfect for players who want something both lighthearted and powerful.

Why it ranks #7:

  • Playful and youthful, following in the footsteps of Meowscles.
  • Tech-mech design combined with a cute kitten makes it stand out.
  • A fun mix of innocence and power, perfect for players who enjoy quirky skins.

Okay, we might be cheating a little bit with this one as it isn’t exactly a furry skin but, it’s close enough and I like it too much to not include. Manic is a fast, stealthy, ninja-inspired skin that blends subtle anthropomorphic themes with a fox-like mask. Introduced during Season 10, this skin is ideal for players who want a more low-key furry vibe. While Manic isn’t an all-out animal, the inclusion of her mask gives a nod to foxes or wolves, appealing to players who like their furry themes to be more understated.

Manic is known for her sleek design, perfect for sneaky gameplay, and has become a popular choice for players who like swift, assassin-style skins. Her minimalist approach to blending human and animal features offers a unique entry point for those who want a hint of furry influence without going overboard.

Why it ranks #6:

  • Ninja-style design with a subtle, fox-like mask.
  • Great for players who prefer a more understated furry aesthetic.
  • Sleek and agile, perfect for stealth-focused gameplay.

5. Grizz Release Date: Chapter 3, Season 4 (October 2022)

Grizz brings a fun, inventive twist to the furry skin genre in Fortnite. Released as part of the Chapter 3, Season 4 Battle Pass, this skin features a giant robotic bear suit controlled by a small, animated blue bear from inside its chest. Grizz is a delightful mix of both cuteness and combat-readiness, with the larger bear giving off serious Gundam-style vibes while the smaller bear provides a playful touch.

Grizz is perfect for players who want to stand out with a quirky, unique skin. The juxtaposition of the massive robot exterior and the tiny bear controller is a brilliant design that captures the whimsical spirit of Fortnite skins. It’s also a great skin for players who want a balance of adorable and powerful.

Why it ranks #5:

  • Fun, quirky concept with a bear controlling a bear mech.
  • Playful and inventive design that appeals to fans of both robots and animals.
  • Stands out for its combination of cute and combat-ready aesthetics.

4. Hybrid Release Date: Season 8 (Chapter 1 Battle Pass)

Hybrid is a standout among Fortnite furry skins, introduced in Season 8’s Battle Pass. This skin starts off as a ninja-like character, but as you progress through the levels, Hybrid transforms into a reptilian dragon warrior, sporting a full set of scales, sharp claws, and a fierce face. Like Dire, Hybrid’s evolutionary process keeps players engaged by allowing them to unlock different stages of transformation, each more beastly and reptilian than the last.

Hybrid’s design draws inspiration from ninjas and dragons, blending both into an agile and fearsome warrior. The skin comes in various colorways, including red, blue, and black, giving players a chance to customize their dragon’s appearance. It’s perfect for players who enjoy skins that offer dynamic transformations and a mix of both animalistic and mystical features. Plus, being part dragon adds a bit of fantasy flair, appealing to furry fans who love mythical creatures.

Why it ranks #4:

  • Evolutionary skin that transforms from human to dragon.
  • Multiple color customization options.
  • A great blend of ninja stealth and reptilian power, perfect for players who enjoy agile, mythical creatures.

Lynx is a sleek and futuristic skin introduced during Fortnite’s Season 7 Battle Pass. Starting off as a human, Lynx slowly transforms into a cyber-cat warrior, unlocking new armor, glowing accents, and a fully feline appearance as players progress. Her design is sleek, agile, and visually stunning, with glowing red or blue armor that contrasts beautifully against her sharp, feline features. Lynx’s final form is one of the most striking skins in the game, especially for those who appreciate a strong, feminine aesthetic combined with high-tech themes. Her detailed design makes her a top pick for players who want to look both fierce and futuristic.

Why it ranks #3:

  • Futuristic, cyber-cat design with a visually appealing evolution.

Young Russian Struggles to Be Furry in a Hostile Culture

Ask Papabear - Thu 12 Sep 2024 - 16:30
Hello, Papabear,

I want to ask questions. I flunked that fandom accidentally in childhood when I was been young via rather porn website e621.net. Been in denial for a long time until I am not accepted furry fandom in current age. My parents strictly hate furries due to their thought that all furries are creeps and perverts. However, I am grown adult already and want to watch whatever I want but I can’t do it while my parents near. I want to feel freedom, but I can’t. Also I love that website and your sona. What should I do? I tried to convince my parents that not all furries like this, but they still think like that.

Николай Плац (age 24, Russia)

* * *

Dear Nikolay,

From what I've heard, being a furry in Russia is not easy. The culture there is extremely hostile to our people. There was once a furcon there called Rusfurence in Moscow that I believe ran from 2013 to just before COVID-19 kicked in (it might have died from the plague and never got resurrected), but politicians in your country have always been openly hostile to furries. For example, I understand that the government has apparently blocked furry websites from being accessed in Russia (although you said you have access to e621, so maybe that is exaggerated). Also, there has been a movement among some politicians to make furries and related cultures such as therians against the law (although nothing has become illegal as yet). In a story that just came out today on MSN ("Russian Senator Pushes for Ban on Controversial Furry Culture" by Weronika Paliczka), a senator named Natalia Kosichina declared that being furry (she is targeting therians doing quadrobics in particular) is unhealthy and somehow "dangerous" to the community. She never explains why. Just a fear of things that are different, I'm sure, because the senator asserted that therians should be forced to play conventional sports to make them "healthy."

Anyway, in your particular case, your parents don't approve. This is common, even in America. In my experience, there really isn't much point in trying to sway their opinions toward the fandom because they see you as a child (even though you are 24) and likely won't respect your opinion on this matter. My suggestion to you is that, at 24, you should move out of your parents' house and go make a life on your own where you can be yourself. Now, the problem with that suggestion is that I do not know your financial situation, and politics and the economy right now in Russia is unsettled, to say the least. It might not be possible at the moment for you to leave, but I would make plans to do so as soon as you are able. In your mid-20s, you need to go out and make your own way.

But even if you do so, it is still rough being where you are. If there is any way you can network with nearby furries that would be a help to you for sure. You only note that you are in Russia (a big big place), but if you are lucky and live in or near Moscow, there is a furry group there. Last I heard in an article in Dogpatch Press, they were still organizing events two years ago and hopefully still do so today. Apparently, these Muscovite furries found each other on the Russian social network VKontakte, so perhaps you can locate some furries on that social site, too.

To summarize, it is likely a wasted effort to sway your parents. More productive would be to try to improve your position as an adult and individual, move out, and seek interaction with furries in your area by using whatever means are available to you.

Good Luck!

A Guide To Making Your Own Furry Badge

Article Content Introduction

Ah, the furry badge—the ultimate calling card at any con or meet-up. It’s not just a piece of art, it’s a statement. A way to let everyone know exactly who your fursona is without even saying a word. Picture this: you’re walking through a bustling convention, surrounded by hundreds of fellow furries. Suddenly, someone stops in their tracks, drawn to the bright splash of color hanging from your lanyard—a furry badge that screams this is me! Cue the connection, and you’re chatting like old friends in no time.

Whether you’re a seasoned con-goer or preparing for your first furry meet-up, making your own badge is a must. Not only does it give you the chance to show off your fursona, but it’s also an awesome creative project (and a great conversation starter). So, let’s get into it—because trust me, you’re going to want a badge that does more than just say your name. You want it to shout your fursona’s personality from the rooftops!

Step 1: Decide on Your Fursona’s Representation

Before we get all artistic, let’s talk about the star of the show—your fursona! This badge is going to be your fursona’s debut to the world, or at least to the con crowd, so let’s make sure it represents everything you want it to. Think of it as a mini self-portrait, but with extra fur and probably a lot more flair.

Personality

First, what’s your fursona’s personality like? Are they the type to give everyone big, fluffy hugs or are they more of a cool, aloof character who watches the chaos from the corner with an amused smirk? Your badge should convey that at a glance. If your fursona is a sly fox, you might want them winking mischievously, but if they’re a gentle giant, a soft, welcoming smile might do the trick. If you want to know what animal most aligns with your personality, check out our fursona quiz here.

Species

Next up—species. Is your fursona a wolf, dragon, or something delightfully out-of-the-box like a hybrid? The species can help set the tone for the design. A tiger badge might look fierce with bold stripes and a strong stance, while a bunny badge could have a softer, cuddlier vibe. My friend made a badge of their fursona, who’s a mix between a lion and a sea otter (don’t ask me how that works, but it’s adorable). The trick is to bring out the unique traits of your fursona in a way that makes them recognizable and memorable, even on a small canvas.

Reference Sheet That Breaks Down Fursona Personality

Pose

And then there’s the pose. A full-body action shot? A close-up of the face? Maybe something dramatic like a profile with wind in the fur. Whatever you choose, think about what best captures your fursona’s energy. I once helped someone whose fursona was a party-loving fox, and their badge had them throwing confetti like it was New Year’s Eve every day. Suffice to say, it got attention.

Your fursona is you in furry form, so make sure the badge shows off exactly what you want people to see when they meet your character for the first time. Whether it’s playful, powerful, or just downright adorable, this badge is your fursona’s first impression—so let’s make it count!

Step 2: Gather Your Materials

Now that you’ve nailed down how you want your fursona to be represented, it’s time to gather the tools you’ll need to bring that vision to life. Whether you’re going the digital route or sticking with traditional methods, having the right materials can make the process smooth and enjoyable (and avoid any last-minute panics—trust me, no one wants to be scrambling for a working pen right as inspiration strikes).

Digital Artists

If you’re working digitally, congratulations—you’ve already bypassed the “oops, I spilled water on my drawing” stage! But you’ll still want to make sure you have the right gear.

  • Drawing tablet or iPad: Any reliable tablet with a stylus will work, but it’s best to go for something that gives you precision, especially since you’re working on a relatively small canvas.

  • Software: You’ve got options, baby! Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, and Photoshop are all solid choices for creating digital badges. Each has its own perks—Procreate is wonderfully intuitive for iPad users, while Clip Studio Paint is practically designed for character artwork with its in-depth customization options.

  • Printer access: Once your digital badge is done, you’ll need a high-quality printer. A laser printer is ideal for crisp lines and vibrant colors, but an inkjet can work wonders if you’re mindful of print settings. And don’t forget to print it on glossy cardstock—you want those colors to pop!

Example of Digital Furry Badge

Traditional Artists

If you’re more hands-on (literally), you’ll need to gather some classic supplies. A furry badge done by hand has a special kind of charm, and for some, the act of physically drawing or coloring is half the fun!

  • Paper: Heavy-duty paper is your friend here. Cardstock or bristol board will give you a sturdy base to work on and make your badge durable enough to survive the chaos of a convention.

  • Markers, colored pencils, or watercolors: Depending on your medium of choice, you’ll want to pick high-quality art supplies that allow for vibrant colors and smooth blending. Alcohol-based markers (like Copic or Prismacolor) are a favorite among traditional artists for their smooth, streak-free finish, while colored pencils can help you build up a lot of fine detail.

  • Line art pens: Fineliner pens in various thicknesses are perfect for those clean, sharp outlines that will really make your character pop. Just be sure to use waterproof pens if you plan on adding watercolors or markers later!

Example of Traditionally Drawn Furry Badge

Optional But Awesome Extras
  • Lamination: Once your badge is done, laminating it is the cherry on top. It not only makes your badge look super polished but also protects it from the inevitable con-related wear and tear (con food stains, anyone?). You can buy a small laminating machine for home use or take it to a print shop for a professional finish.

  • Badge clips or lanyards: Don’t forget how you’re going to display your masterpiece. Badge clips are great if you want something subtle, but a bright lanyard can be another opportunity for self-expression. Why not coordinate it with your badge’s color scheme or fursona’s personality?

Commissioning a fursuit has never been so easy!

Now that you’ve gathered all your materials, it’s time to dive into the creative process—sketching your badge! This is where your fursona really comes to life. Whether you’re starting with a pencil or stylus, don’t worry about getting it perfect on the first try—this is your chance to play around with poses, expressions, and all the little details that make your fursona unique.

Start with a Rough Sketch

Begin with a rough sketch to get the general idea of what you want your badge to look like. Keep things loose and don’t stress about perfection just yet! You’re just laying down the foundation.

  • Face or Full Body?: Decide if you want your badge to be a close-up of your fursona’s face or include their whole body. Some people love the full-body action shot, while others prefer a zoomed-in portrait that focuses on the face and expression. If you’re new to badge-making, starting with just a face can make the process less overwhelming, especially on a smaller scale.

  • Pose and Expression: The pose is important! You want your fursona to reflect their personality. Is your character standing confidently with their arms crossed, or giving a thumbs-up with a grin? How about winking or sticking out their tongue for that extra bit of sass?

    • Xege’s Storytime: I remember one time my friend tried to make her fursona look mysterious by giving them a dramatic side-eye. It ended up looking more like they’d just spotted someone stealing their fries. Moral of the story? Test out different expressions and see what fits!
Composition is Key

Think about how the different elements of your badge fit together. You’ll need to balance the character’s pose, any background elements, and, of course, your fursona’s name.

  • Including the Name: Most furry badges include your fursona’s name, and you’ll want to pick a font style or hand-drawn lettering that complements your fursona’s personality. A bubbly, playful fursona might look great with some big, bold letters, while something more elegant could call for sleek, cursive text.

  • Backgrounds: If you’re feeling extra creative, consider adding a background element—whether it’s simple shapes, a splash of color, or something that ties into your fursona’s theme (stars, paw prints, trees… the sky’s the limit). Just remember that the badge is small, so don’t overcomplicate it!

Examples of Furry Badge Sketches

Balance and Scale

Because badges are relatively small, you want to make sure that the important details are easy to see at a glance. Overloading your badge with too many elements can make it hard for others to tell what’s going on (and might even confuse you when you look at it later). Keep your design clean and focused, with attention on your fursona’s face, name, and maybe one or two background elements.

When working on the sketch, take time to resize and move things around until everything feels balanced. The goal is to make sure your badge is eye-catching, but not so busy that it’s hard to read.

Finalizing the Sketch

Once you’re happy with the rough sketch, you can start refining the lines. This is where things get crisp and polished—adding all the little details that give your badge personality, like fur texture, markings, and those all-important facial expressions. Don’t be afraid to go over your sketch a few times until it feels just right.

Now that you’ve got your sketch all polished up, it’s time to bring your fursona to life with color! This is where your badge will really pop and capture attention. The colors, shading, and little details you choose will make your fursona stand out in a sea of badges. So, grab your markers, pencils, or stylus, and let’s add some personality to that sketch!

Choosing Your Color Scheme

Your fursona likely already has a color palette, so stick with what represents them best. However, on a badge, you might want to tweak the saturation or brightness a little to make sure the colors really stand out, especially if the badge is being viewed from a distance.

  • Bold vs. Muted Colors: Bold, vibrant colors tend to catch the eye (and look fabulous on badges), but don’t be afraid to work with more muted or natural tones if that’s what suits your fursona’s vibe. Just make sure that there’s enough contrast between your fursona and any background elements so they don’t get lost in the mix.

  • Shading and Highlights: Adding depth to your badge with shading and highlights can make your character look more dynamic. If you’re working digitally, use layers to experiment with different lighting effects. If you’re working traditionally, you can use colored pencils or markers in slightly darker shades to add subtle shadows. Don’t forget the highlights in the eyes—that’s what brings the sparkle and makes your fursona feel alive.
Playing with Text

Next, let’s talk about that all-important name. Whether you go for hand-drawn lettering or a specific font, this is your chance to give your badge a real sense of personality.

  • Text Style: Think about your fursona’s personality. Is their name bold and blocky like a superhero logo? Or maybe it’s more whimsical, with fun curves and flourishes? The text should feel like an extension of your fursona. You can also play with colors—maybe it’s a rainbow of neon hues or a gradient that matches the rest of the badge.

  • Text Placement: The name typically sits under the character’s face or somewhere that doesn’t distract from the main design. You want it to be visible but not overwhelming. Play around with different placements until you find one that feels balanced.

Add Your Personal Flair

This is where you can really let your creativity shine! Think about any special details or unique touches that make your fursona different from the rest. Do they have an accessory, like a scarf or sunglasses? How about a funky fur pattern? This is your chance to add all those little personal elements that make your fursona your fursona.

  • Patterns and Markings: If your fursona has stripes, spots, or other distinct markings, make sure to add those in! These details can make your badge even more eye-catching and help define your character.

  • Fun Effects: If you’re feeling adventurous, add a little sparkle (literally)! You can sprinkle in glitter, neon, or holographic effects, especially if you’re working with traditional materials. There’s nothing wrong with going a bit extra—after all, this is your badge!
Pro Tip: Keep it Simple (But Not Too Simple)

When adding color and details, remember that less is often more, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! You don’t want your badge to look too busy or cluttered, but you also don’t want it to be so minimal that it lacks personality. The sweet spot is somewhere in between. Add those unique touches, but keep your fursona as the focal point.

At this stage, you should really start to see your badge take shape, transforming from a sketch into a vibrant expression of your fursona. Whether you go for bright, bold colors or something more subdued, this is your chance to let your creativity—and your fursona’s personality—shine through!

Step 5: Printing and Laminating

Now that your badge design is all done, it’s time to make it real! Whether you’re working digitally or traditionally, the finishing touches—printing and laminating—will give your badge that polished, professional look, and make sure it’s durable enough to survive the chaos of conventions, meet-ups, or even just hanging on your wall as a proud display.

For Digital Artists: Best Practices for Printing

If you’ve created your badge digitally, your next step is to print it out. Here’s how to get the best result:

  • High Resolution: Make sure your digital file is at least 300 DPI (dots per inch) for a crisp, clean print. This resolution will ensure that all the details in your badge—your fursona’s fur textures, color gradients, and even tiny text—come through clearly.

  • Paper Type: Go for glossy cardstock or heavy-duty paper. Glossy paper will make the colors pop and give your badge a professional shine, while the thickness of cardstock will make it sturdy enough to handle being worn over and over.

  • Printer Settings: If you’re printing at home, check your printer’s settings. Use the highest quality setting available and make sure you’re printing on the correct paper type for the best color accuracy. If your home printer isn’t up to the task, don’t worry—you can always take your file to a local print shop, where they’ll have high-quality printers that can give your badge a polished look.
For Traditional Artists: Preparing Your Badge for Print

If you’ve created your badge by hand, you’ll want to take extra care to preserve your masterpiece before printing.

    • Scan It: Use a high-resolution scanner (300 DPI or higher) to digitize your badge. This will help you back it up and prepare it for printing, especially if you plan on making multiples or sharing it online.

    • Adjusting Colors: After scanning, you might need to do a bit of touch-up work in a program like Photoshop or GIMP. Scanned colors can sometimes look a little washed out, so a little tweaking with contrast and saturation can make your fursona look as vibrant as they do on paper.

    • Paper Choices: Once scanned and ready, you’ll print your badge on the same glossy cardstock or heavy-duty paper as a digital artist would use. This will give your traditional art the durability it needs to be a wearable piece of art.

    Lamination Options

Lamination is what will take your badge from cool to con-ready. It protects your badge from water, wear, and tear, making it something you can show off for years to come. You’ve got a couple of ways to go about this:

    • Home Laminator: If you’re a DIY kind of person, investing in a small laminating machine is a great idea. These machines are fairly affordable and super easy to use—just slide your badge into the plastic pouch, feed it through the laminator, and voilà! A perfectly laminated badge.

    • Print Shop: If you don’t have a laminator at home, or if you want a more professional finish, take your badge to a print shop. Many places offer laminating services, and they often have thicker, more durable laminate options than a home machine can provide.

    Cutting and Finishing

Once your badge is laminated, it’s time for the final step: cutting it out.

    • Leave a Border: When cutting around the edges, leave a small border of laminate (about 1/8 inch) around the design. This ensures that the laminate stays sealed and your badge doesn’t peel over time.

    • Add a Clip or Lanyard: Finally, punch a hole at the top of your badge and attach a badge clip or lanyard. If you’re really feeling fancy, you can find lanyards that match your fursona’s theme or colors to take your badge presentation to the next level.

    Conclusion

And there you have it! Your very own furry badge, ready to show off at conventions, meetups, or even just hanging by your desk as a daily reminder of your fursona’s awesomeness. Making a furry badge is more than just a fun art project—it’s a way to express yourself and connect with others in the fandom. It’s like wearing your fursona’s heart (and maybe some glitter) on your sleeve, ready to spark conversations and make new friends.

Remember, there’s no right or wrong way to create a badge. Whether you go all out with bold colors and glitter, or keep it simple and sleek, the most important thing is that it represents you (or, well, your fursona!). Don’t stress too much about perfection—art is meant to be fun and reflective of your unique personality.

So, now that you’ve created your badge, it’s time to show it off! Snap a picture and share it online, bring it to your next con, or proudly wear it at the next furry meet-up. Who knows? Maybe someone will stop you, admiring your badge, and you’ll make a new friend right on the spot.

    Bearnard Review

    Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Wed 11 Sep 2024 - 18:32

Forced to go on a quest to retrieve a legendary bow to save his home woodland, Bernard grabs his trusty bow and helpful sidekick owl Blue and embarks on an epic platforming, card grabbing, arrow shooting adventure. There’s a refinement of the gameplay formula that the game crafts that allows for a real honing of strategies and possibilities as you proceed through Bearnard’s many levels. I found myself thinking two steps ahead and contemplating the possibilities of combat and exploration more and more with every obstacle I faced and overcame. Whilst doing that, the player is treated to some unique witty writing for the characters’ dialogue and notes found around the world, which added to the charm of it all. Bearnard was enjoyable to pick up and easy to come back to over and over as I progressed.

WitchSpring R Review: A Witchy Adventure

    Gaming Furever - Furry Game News - Mon 9 Sep 2024 - 16:05

WitchSpring R is one of the most unique RPGs I’ve ever played and it's a lot of fun. So what is WitchSpring R? It's a remaster of Witch Spring, a mobile game by Korean developer KIWIWALKS that released in 2018. It went on to have a few sequels before they started getting adapted to consoles starting with this games predecessor: Witch Spring 3 Re:Fine. WitchSpring R definitely doesn’t feel like a mobile game and it most certainly isn’t. It's a full blown remaster boasting improved graphics, gameplay elements etc. I’ve never played the mobile games and hadn’t heard of this series until I got the opportunity to play and review it. But I think even those familiar with the series would be able to enjoy this.

Picture this: neon lights pulsing, the bass pounding, and a sea of foxes, wolves, and dragons tearing up the dance floor. Welcome to furry raves—where the furry fandom and rave culture collide in a celebration of music, creativity, and fur!

At these high-energy events, fursuited party-goers unleash their inner animal and groove to the beat, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you’re a seasoned furry or just curious, let’s explore the vibrant world of furry raves, where the party is as wild as the fur!

The Rise of the Furry Rave Scene When Furs Met Beats

The origins of the furry rave scene lie in the natural intersection of two vibrant subcultures—furry fandom and rave culture. Furry conventions, known for their creativity and celebration of fursonas, began incorporating elements of electronic music in the early 2000s. Meanwhile, rave culture, with its roots in the 1980s and 90s, find out more about the history of rave culture, grew as a space for people to dance, connect, and embrace self-expression. Early furry conventions, such as Anthrocon and Furry Fiesta, saw small-scale dance parties evolve into rave-style events, fueled by the growing popularity of electronic dance music (EDM).

While these raves started as low-key gatherings in convention spaces, they quickly became an integral part of furry conventions worldwide. The fusion of fursuiting and EDM became a unique form of performance art where attendees could not only show off their fursonas but fully inhabit them on the dance floor. Growth: From Convention Rooms to Global Dance Floors

As furry conventions expanded, so did their rave scenes. What began as casual dance parties in hotel ballrooms turned into professionally organized events with advanced sound systems, lighting, and famous DJs. Furry raves at conventions like Midwest FurFest and Eurofurence became iconic for their energetic crowds, vibrant fursuits, and immersive environments, turning the dance floor into a sensory experience.

Beyond conventions, standalone furry rave events began to pop up, with cities like San Francisco, Berlin, and Tokyo hosting dedicated furry raves that have drawn in participants from all over the globe. These events now offer cutting-edge sound and light shows, mirroring the intensity and excitement of mainstream EDM festivals like EDC and Tomorrowland.

Cultural Impact: A New Level of Expression

Furry raves are more than just about dancing—they’re about embodying fursonas in a highly expressive and dynamic way. These events allow furries to bring their personas to life in a communal, energetic environment. Whether through glowing fursuits or dazzling LED accessories, furry-rave attendees embrace an artistic, performative aspect of furry culture. Discover more about the significance of fursonas in self-expression.

Furry raves have also created safe spaces for inclusivity, allowing attendees of all backgrounds, genders, and orientations to let loose without judgment. The blend of rave and furry culture has fostered a community built on acceptance, creativity, and shared passion for music and fursonas.

What to Expect at a Furry Rave The Vibe: High Energy and Full Fur

Walking into a furry rave feels like stepping into another dimension, where vibrant fur, pulsating beats, and glowing lights collide. These events are more than just dance parties—they’re immersive experiences where attendees transform into their fursonas and connect with the music on a deeper level. Music: The Heartbeat of the Event

Music is the core of any rave, and furry raves are no exception. Expect a mix of electronic genres—EDM, house, dubstep, and more—designed to keep the energy levels high and the dance floor packed. DJs often tailor their sets to the furry audience, adding a playful touch to the beats. Find more about popular electronic music genres at raves.

In larger furry raves, you’ll often find professional DJs, sound systems, and even synchronized light shows that turn the dance floor into an all-out sensory experience. The music acts as a communal heartbeat, syncing up with the energy of the crowd and enhancing the feeling of connection. Discover more about how DJs shape the rave experience.

    Fursuit Fashion: Lights, Fur, Action

At furry raves, fursuiting isn’t just about wearing a costume—it’s an art form. Attendees pull out all the stops, incorporating glowing accessories, LED tails, and UV-reactive fur to stand out in the black-lit rooms. Expect to see everything from simple neon accents to full-blown illuminated fursuits that look like they’ve stepped straight out of a sci-fi movie. Check out guides on creating fursuit accessories.

It’s also worth noting that comfort is key. While fursuits are fun, they can get hot! Many experienced furries opt for lighter, rave-friendly versions of their suits, or they incorporate cooling packs and fans to keep themselves from overheating while dancing the night away. Get tips on staying cool in a fursuit at events.

Commissioning a fursuit has never been so easy!

At these events, attendees aren’t just dancing—they’re bringing their fursonas to life in a dynamic, interactive way. Whether in full fursuits, partial suits, or even just accessories like ears and tails, everyone has the opportunity to embody their animal alter-ego.

For many furries, the rave provides a space to fully unleash their creativity and personality without judgment. Fursuits and rave gear become tools for self-expression, and the energetic environment encourages even the shyest attendees to let loose. It’s not just about looking the part—furry raves allow furries to feel the part, immersing themselves in the music and movement as their fursona. A Blend of Creativity and Performance

Furry raves are a perfect fusion of two cultures that thrive on creativity—furry fandom and rave culture. These events are where the worlds of visual art, performance, and music come together in a colorful, high-energy display of passion.

Furries often use these events as a stage to perform, whether it’s through dancing in costume, participating in light shows, or simply interacting with others. It’s an opportunity to be part of a living, breathing work of art, where everyone plays a role in creating the atmosphere and experience.

The shared experience of dancing, laughing, and celebrating in fursona creates lasting friendships and strengthens the bonds within the furry community.

        Escapism: Leaving Reality Behind

Furry raves are not just about dancing—they’re a form of escapism, allowing attendees to step away from the everyday and into a world where their imagination runs wild. The combination of fursuits, music, and lights creates a surreal, immersive environment where the line between fantasy and reality blurs. Whether you’re a fox, wolf, dragon, or something entirely unique, furry raves give you the freedom to be whoever—or whatever—you want to be for the night.

For many, this escape is therapeutic. It provides a much-needed break from the pressures of real life, offering a few hours where the only thing that matters is the music and the moment. Watching the Watchers

        In-Fur-Nation - Sun 8 Sep 2024 - 01:58

An amazing true story — presented as an anthropomorphic graphic novel. “What happens behind the walls of a police station? What kind of living does a cop make? And how does a culture of racism and violence become entrenched? Valentin Gendrot went undercover in Paris to find the answers — revelations that rocked France and led to a series of investigations, including an internal affairs case on Gendrot himself. Flic is an exposé of a world never before seen by outsiders, an urgent story for our times, powerfully illustrated by the talented Thierry Chavant.” And it’s available now from Scribe Publications.

Looking ahead to Furry Book Month

        Furry Writers' Guild - Sat 7 Sep 2024 - 19:12

October is Furry Book Month, and we’re only a few weeks away! We have a few fun things going on next month to celebrate, including another book bundle!

We are taking submissions for both a general audiences and an 18+ book bundle until Sept. 26, 2024. To submit your novel for consideration, please keep the following qualifications in mind:

The author must be a member of the Furry Writers’ Guild.
        The story must be self-published.
The story must be a novel.
The story must be a stand-alone or first in a series (no sequels).
        The story must be furry.
The story cannot have been included in a previous bundle.

The bundles will be available on Gumroad for pay-what-you-want (minimum price of $10), with proceeds split evenly between all contributing authors and the FWG. Please get your entries in before September 26th, since we want the bundle to go live on October 1st. We would like to include around ten novels per bundle. Since we want to showcase as wide a variety of writers as possible, we are more likely to choose submissions by authors who have not been featured in a previous bundle.

Please fill out this form to submit:

In other Furry Book Month news, it’s time to sharpen your typing claws because we’re launching the first Furry Novel Jam! This is similar to the November novel writing challenge that most of us have heard of. Instead of November, we’ll be writing throughout October–hopefully without as many distractions from holidays, school deadlines, etc.

The rules are pretty simple. Set a writing goal for October, and on Oct. 1, start! You can cheer on your fellow writers on the Discord server, arrange word sprints and mini competitions, and basically just have fun. It’s easy to lose the joy of writing amid the pressures we put on ourselves, and it can also be hard to make time to write. Sometimes turning the solitary, cerebral practice of writing into a ridiculous race with a bunch of likeminded people can help you regain both joy and discipline.

My planned novella is outlined (uh, mostly). What are you planning to write?
