I'd be damned if there's Furries in Singapore

Furry Reddit - Sun 25 Oct 2015 - 20:59

Well it's a small ~500km2 Island anyways... There's none of them at my campus and my mates usually think I'm the only one.

Well in other news, how did your peers reacted to you being a Furry. My mates were cool with it and my aunt said it was an unusual but interesting concept.

Well, I got to say, this is bold. In a world where refugees simply cannot find a place to escape the horrors of their homeland, a remarkable campaign—and not just one person with a paypal account and a half-baked idea, but a legitimate, multimedia, workshops and encounter groups, five-year-plan campaign—to CROWDFUND A NATION comes to life. A place for refugees to find a home.

I love you, Indiegogo.

That’s crowdfunding news, that is.

For some reason they’re using a combination of GoFundMe and Indiegogo, which doesn’t make a lot of sense, but this is really a magnificent enterprise, check it out.

There is a certain fear that this large-hearted effort will turn dark somehow, in a “history does not favor nation-shaping altruism” sort of way. But I’m still amazed at the scale of this idea.

Reviews this week—mini-reviews of three video games that are having a hard time reaching their goals. One of them is exceptionally cute.

What's in your fursona's Halloween bucket?

Furry Reddit - Sun 25 Oct 2015 - 17:28

Personally, beef jerky and Butterfingers.

If it's liquid, it's in a sealable container. If it's really big, the Halloween bucket can contain it because of a spell.

Questions for your 'sona #11

Furry Reddit - Sun 25 Oct 2015 - 15:26

Today's question:

Your 'Sona represents its native land in the Olympics. What medal do they take home?

You can interpret "native land" any way you want. Also, this is the weird furry Olympics so feel free to choose a sport or game that isn't an actual Olympic sport

He's in Love with Friend's Mother ... or Perhaps It Is Her Fursona?

Ask Papabear - Sun 25 Oct 2015 - 13:32
Dear Papabear,

I was told of your site by a furry friend

My story starts off 4 years ago, I lost both my mom and dad in a horrible car crash, I survived but only just as I had been told that doctors were so close to turning off my life support after no response from me until a heart flutter came up. Later when I was discharged I had to began organising a lot of arrangements for the funerals. At the funeral was one of my best friends who looked after me a lot. (I’ll call him Bestfriend 1) afterwards he came and checked on me nearly every day and was very caring, he’d even take me shopping or for walks just to get me out of the house.

Time passed and I soon tried to let it slip my mind because of the fact they weren’t coming back and nothing I could say or do would do anything.

Anyway 2 years later (being 2 years ago) Another friend (I’ll call him Bestfriend 2) suggested I go along with him and his mom to a furry meet, I rejected the offer however he insisted and finally I accepted, I went to it and found myself surrounded by furries, I don’t know what happened because I fainted a they’d gathered around me, (it was like some kind of overload of the love that I hadn’t had for the past 2 years.) I began falling into the furry world and thought these guys were adorable and I decided to join, I got myself a basic suit as I couldn’t afford a fursuit and began trying to fit in.

Another year later (being last year) I bumped into (bestfriend 2) at a meet and while we were all in fursuits they talked about me moving into their house the reason being was that I was beginning to fall behind on the new rental charges and the “bedroom tax” as its being dubbed here in the UK, I had no other choice and as the council were wanting the house back to put a new tenant in I had it hanging over me for ages before I agreed. I got my things and moved in, (bestfriend2)’s place was bigger than my family’s home and while it was different I felt settled in and I knew I could rely on them. Both (bestfriend 2) and his mom were happy to have me move in with them and are both in the furry community too. (Bestfriend 2’s) dad had never been on the scene and wasn’t a caring dad he wanted to do his own thing and that’s what he did, he had nothing to do with (bestfriend 2) or his ex partner (bestfriend 2’s) mom.

Anyway this brings me to 4 months ago I’ve been here for a while now and at furmeets I’m seeing (bestfriend 2’s) mom in a new light, she’s more beautiful and sexy. (I honestly can’t believe I’m saying this about my bestfriend’s mom) (bestfriend 2’s) mom is in her early 40’s and I’m in my mid 20’s, it’s just she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever felt passion for, I had a few relationships at school when I was 16 but they never got anywhere. I’ve been having sexual feelings for her and she’s been feeling the same about me. To seal our love we went to a furry convention and booked ourselves adjoining bedrooms at a hotel nearby. However at the con nearby while travelling between floors the lift suddenly stopped the lift had broken down and I and she were stuck in it.

With no sign of help nearby and no-one picking up the emergency phone we could only sit it out. Soon enough though we began talking seriously about our love for each other and began nose booping and touch each other’s fur and soon enough we were both in heat as our species joined together as we made love inside the broken lift. We had both climaxed several times while waiting and finally help was here. We were both hot and sweaty, the lift smelling of our love making.

We sensibly took the stairs and decided to go to our hotel room. Where (bestfriend 2) had been waiting asking us where we were, we told him the lift had broke and after a long day we got some sleep, in the early hours though I sneaked out of my bed and went into the adjoining room where (bestfriend 2’s) mom was sleeping and I gently woke her up and asked if she really did love me, to which she replied yes. That was all I needed to hear and we began love making in our fursuits again, a lioness making love with a younger male fox, we even began making our animal noises trying to cover up the squeaking from the bed springs her low growling and me just whimpering.

So its now the present day, me and (bestfriend 2’s) mom are in a secret satisfying sexual relationship and that is how we like it, though I am feeling really guilty each time after I’ve made out with my lioness lover because it’s her son and my bestfriend.

I love the sex but the fact I’m having sex with my bestfriend’s mom.
What should I do?

I don’t want to break off the relationship but I don’t want to lose my bestfriend either.

Question Mark

* * *

Dear Question Mark,

Very sad about losing your parents and all you went through :-( As for your current situation....

Putting this into perspective a bit, there is nothing morally wrong, objectively speaking, with your falling in love with an older woman, or vice versa. You are both of legal age, and although there is a definite sexual component here, it sounds as if there might be more to it than sex and you genuinely have feelings for her, yes? So that’s good. Now, I am a bit concerned about your descriptions here as it sounds as if you might be having unprotected sex (I doubt you had several condoms on you when you yiffed in the elevator, for example). You both need to be responsible here, and I would caution you to be thus. I mean, the last thing you would want would be a baby, correct? Talk about complicating matters!

So, the only overt factor in question is her son. It’s difficult for me to gauge this because I have no idea what kind of person he is. I’m surmising, though, that he is not a conservative Christian and, seeing that his mom is a furry, too, he is probably fairly liberal-minded. The main problem might be his feeling that “this is so weird ... is my best friend now my father?” or some such.

You also need to evaluate the value of your relationships here. If you love this woman deeply and it would crush your soul if you split up, that would probably outweigh the importance of your relationship with your friend—although that would still be part of the scenario; it would be a matter of that relationship drastically changing. If, on the other paw, this is just infatuation and hot sex (do not mistake hot sex for love, even if she says “I love you” it might mean “I love sex with you”) then your friendship with her son might be more important.

One way you might determine this has to do with your fursuits. Your letter sounds as if when you have sex it has been in your fursuits. Could it be that you’re in love with each other’s fursonas (you talk about her being your “lioness lover”)? This is not beyond the scope of possibility, and one way you could figure this out is to have sex without the fursuits on. Have you done this? If not, that is quite telling! And in that case, I would say that you should definitely reevaluate what you are doing here. (In fact, that is kind of this bear’s sense of this that it is a furry fantasy you’re in love with, but I could be wrong).

You also don’t say what the lioness feels about this. Is she fine with telling her son? Is she fearful? Why or why not? That’s important information. It’s not just your responsibility to eventually tell your friend but hers as well.

All of that is not a conclusive answer to your question, but the above items are all things to consider and weigh before you make your final decision.

Please write again if you have more information or questions.... And good luck!

What does your fursona do if they hear a bump in the night

My fursona personally (just like me) ends up shouting out "fuck off" or something similar that.

Member Spotlight: R. A. Meenan

Furry Writers' Guild - Sun 25 Oct 2015 - 11:59

1. Tell us about your most recent project (written or published). What inspired it?

Zyearth coverMy most recent project, The Stolen Guardian, was published just two weeks ago! It’s a dramatic action/adventure story about two high ranking military individuals dealing with a foreign invader and invincible monsters. There’s magic, drama, death, and even a little romance.

The story has been a long time in the making. The original version of the story was actually a role play that I did over the course of about a year with a friend of mine during my senior year in high school. It was also originally a Sonic the Hedgehog fan fiction, though it was a very loose fan fiction which only used a few basic elements from the world. No canon characters or storylines were involved with the story, and it even took place on a different planet.

As I studied craft and worked toward making my world an original world, The Stolen Guardian went through a bunch of drafts and changes until I ended up with what I have now.

2. What’s your writing process like? Are you a “pantser,” an outliner, or something in between?

I’m kind of a mix of both. I tend to write really detailed outlines with descriptive beats and clear goals, but I allow myself to pants things if the story lends itself to it. Any time I hit a wall, I’ll try to re-outline to make sure everything matches up. I like to see where I’m going while writing.

For short stories though, I tend to shoot the breeze. My best short story, “White Assassin,” which will be coming out next month, pretty much wrote itself. All I did was throw characters into a situation, and everything fell into place. “White Assassin” actually won an Honorable Mention in the prestigious Writers of the Future contest, which I see as proof that sometimes pantsing can be awesome.

3. What’s your favorite kind of story to write?

I prefer character driven action and drama, with a bit of wit mixed in. I’m a very introspective person myself, so my characters tend to be introspective too. I also prefer speculative fiction. Pretty much all my stories have some level of magic, science fiction, magical realism, or other such things in them. Real life is boring. Magic is awesome! R. A. Meenan

4. Which character from your work do you most identify with, and why?

Hmm, that’s a difficult one. Probably Matt Azure from The Stolen Guardian. Matt is a really passionate character, and he’s got a powerful drive to do whatever he can to help others. He throws himself into situations that he knows might be bad for him to protect those he loves. I’m not always good at that, but it’s something I admire and strive for, so Matt has become the sort of person I’d like to be.

5. Which authors or books have most influenced your work?

Three authors really stick out in my mind. Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, was my first major inspiration. A lot of my writing style reflects his, such as close third person POV, lots of different POVs in a book, extreme detailed descriptions, and we even have similar characters.

The second is K. M. Carroll, author of The Spacetime Legacy series. She was one of the first really serious authors I ever sent my work too and she was completely honest about how much my writing sucked at the time! But she was patient and she helped me develop my craft and style, and still helps me with editing and marketing strategies today. She’s also an amazing author in her own right, and she always amazes me with how many books she’s put out. She has a big family, but she’s found a way to be the best mom ever, while still writing quality books and putting out several a year. She’s a big inspiration.

The last author that has really influenced me was Jess E. Owen, author of the Summer King Chronicles. K. M. Carroll introduced me to Jess’s books and I fell in love immediately with her writing style. I love the fact that she has such a strong sense of style and her characters feels so real. I’ve found over the years that some animal books never feel right because the characters never feel like animals, but Jess’s books aren’t like that at all. I also love the way she describes things, especially flight. Any time I get to describe flight myself, I think of Jess’s books, which makes flight feel so authentic and beautiful. The fact that she has an amazing series of great animal books has inspired me to believe I can do the same.

6. What’s the last book you read that you really loved?

Gosh, I read so many books, that’s hard to know! I think A Shard of Sun by Jess E. Owen is one. I’m actually rereading it for the third time. I’m also reading The Martian right now, which has immediately grabbed my attention. Excellent books.

7. Besides writing, how do you like to spend your free time?

I’m a college professor of English, which means lots of essay grading, so generally I don’t have a lot of free time. But when I do get it, you’ll often find me drawing or painting, walking through the botanical gardens by my home, or playing any number of video games. I’m a huge Assassin’s Creed and Halo fan, and I’m looking forward to both of the new games. Especially Halo. The game comes out on my wedding anniversary!

I also spend a lot of time reading webcomics. Questionable Content and Furry Experience are my two favorites.

8. Advice for other writers?

A lot of writers tell you to write every day. Don’t listen to them. Write on your own schedule. Make sure you’re making time to write, but don’t kick yourself if you don’t write every day. Sometimes life is more important than writing.

Also, don’t be afraid to try a lot of different genres. Sometimes writing a brand new genre will be a breath of fresh air and will rejuvenate you as a writer.

9. Where can readers find your work?

My novel is available on Amazon here.

Readers can also visit www.zyearth.com and access the first two chapters of The Stolen Guardian there. I’m also going to be releasing three short stories in the next three months, all of which can be downloaded for free from my website.

You can also find me on Goodreads.

10. What’s your favorite thing about the furry fandom?

The openness! I’ve only really been involved with the furry fandom for about a year, and I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly I was drawn in and how kind everyone was. It seems like furries happily invite everyone into their circles and it’s made me feel really special. I’m very glad and blessed to be a part of such a wonderful group of people.
