Furry-themed total overhaul mod for Crusader Kings 2 in development, wanna help me out?

Furry Reddit - Fri 6 Nov 2015 - 01:15

This is a crazy idea that will take a long time, but it'll take longer if I try to do it by myself. That said, I could do it alone, but I don't really want to. There's a TL;DR at the bottom, since this is a huge post.

Planning is a strong point of mine, or rather, I improvise a plan as I go along. So far, here's what I've gotten figured out as far as what the mod should do and all that:

  • Fantasy map, based on the terrain of Europe and Asia.

  • Replace all the cultures and religions with new fantasy ones.

  • Obviously the portraits need to go, and there has to be a way to make that part furry.

  • Will probably use most of the vanilla events, with a bunch of additions.

  • Somehow find a way to incorporate the fact that magic is a part of the world.

  • Obviously there'll need to be new characters written in, but I'm not going to put down any sort of number for this until everything else is done.

  • I'm thinking of a timeline for the mod to have it span around a thousand years or so, this is subject to change.

That's a lot of stuff to do, but, I've already started work on a lot of it. That said, 'started work' mostly means I know what I want everything to be I just haven't put it down in the text files to actually put it in the game yet. Here's what I've actually done:

  • Made a 2048x2048 map and have almost all the files required to put it in the game, with the notable exception of the provinces, which is arguably the hardest part.

  • Wrote down outlines for the cultures and religions. Still a lot of details to work out.

  • Figured out a potential way to make furry portraits work.

  • Not-written-down-yet outlines for characters and history and timeline stuff.

That's not a lot done, but I'm going to wow you with a picture of the map so you'll be distracted: http://i.imgur.com/nxejsQ5.png

Basically, I need a couple people to help me get the files figured out and to help me balance the gameplay and all that, and I need a bunch of people to help with playtesting as I get this stuff figured out.

Everybody involved has potential to help add, change, or otherwise alter stuff about how everything works. Maybe you have an idea for some awesome king guy, sure, let's add that. Ooh, let's put a river there, yeah, why not?

You may be wondering (actually you might not give a crap) where I had the inspiration for making a mod for some random game. Mostly I just felt like it. It's a pretty cool game, at least to me. And it looks really easy to mod.

But a big reason is because I had the idea to write this big series of stories in a fantasy world, and I thought it'd be really friggin' cool to have something like a video game to mess around with for inspiration, and when I looked into modding CK2, I realized it looked really easy.

I was wrong, of course, but that just means it's a nice challenge.

TL;DR: I'm making a big mod for Crusader Kings 2, that puts it in a fantasy world with furry characters and magic and crap like that. Anybody who wants to help me gets to make the thing better by suggesting stuff. And you get your name in the credits for every contribution, since I'm broke and can't pay anybody.

Not specifically furry, but I felt some artists could use the pick-me-up.

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Nov 2015 - 23:37

http://doodlealley.com/2012/10/10/be-friends-with-failure/

I'd debated whether it was appropriate to post this here, it not being specifically related to the furry community and so forth. Seeing that we have topics here simply for chatting, however, I thought I may as well try.

There is also this.

Some further tips for the very new:

  • Do not be afraid to reference. Anyone who tells you that art drawn using references is not "real" art is a blatant liar, or knows nothing about art. And for that matter, do not be afraid to ask for references! Here is a useful one. Do note that there is a difference between referencing and tracing, which is its own beast, as described later.

  • Give yourself permission to draw "bad" art. By that, I mean give yourself permission to sit down and draw anything from half-finished sketches to blobs and stick figures dueling with sticks, and do this regularly, however many times it takes to work frustration out of your system. Have days where you sit down and say, "I am not going to make a masterpiece today. I am only going to practice fabric by copying from these photos of drapery as closely as possible." That, too is an achievement.

  • Tracing is useful in the right contexts. It should not be used as a crutch or as a replacement for the ability to draw figures, and I personally do not think it should be used to produce public work, but when applied properly it is a useful learning tool. I first learned to draw by tracing pictures when I was twelve.

  • If you use Photoshop with default brushes and are dissatisfied with your lineart, please please know that Photoshop's default brushes are horrendous for doing linework. They blob, they blur, and they are overall irritating to work with. I would recommend finding some custom brushes or trialing an alternative art program. My personal recommendation would be Manga Studio 5 with Frenden's tools, but I have also heard good things about Krita for those who do not have the money to spare. Of course, tools cannot replace the skills needed to use them, but they can make the experience of learning and creating much less frustrating.

  • Don't forget, we have an art learning subreddit, /r/furryartschool!

Please feel free to share any tools, tips, and encouragement that you have, as well!

I'm curious.

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Nov 2015 - 23:19

Why do you people chose to become furries? What pulls you in to the fandom? How did you get interested in this? I'm just speaking out of a outsider. I pretty curious about you people.

Not a furry but...

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Nov 2015 - 18:41

...the art is pretty cool. I see anthro stuff posted on dA all the time. Some of the art is really good! I like to lurk around and look at the art.

So hi i guess :)

Also is there is difference between Anthro and Furry?

Short short Stories, <1000 words!

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Nov 2015 - 18:17

Attention fuzzballs, writers or not, I challenge you to make a short story under 1000 words! (a typical short story usually ranges from 1000 or 1500 to 7500)

I personally love simplicity. I feel like very short stories could leave so many things to interpretation and I want to see how much emotions could be expressed with such few words.

I'm looking forward to you stories! (P.S. Brownie point if you have <750 words)

How detailed is your sona?

Furry Reddit - Thu 5 Nov 2015 - 18:14

I've seen a few people create whole backstories for their sona and people who don't do anything (both options are ok by the way. I wanted to see how detailed people make their sona and why they did that. Some people even make their sona just like them so I guess that's the most.
