Real Animal Adventure Tales

In-Fur-Nation - Sat 11 Mar 2023 - 01:24

We just learned about a new graphic novel series for young readers, from Henry Holt and Company. The Surviving The Wild series is based on actual events with real animals “in the wondrous but hazardous wilds”. First up is Surviving The Wild: Sunny The Shark, by Remy Lai. “Sunny the Shark is a fearsome predator. As the oceanic whitetip shark searches for her next meal, a chatty school of pilot fish trails behind, cleaning her in exchange for food crumbs. But when Sunny mistakes a plastic ring for prey and it gets caught around her fin, she soon struggles to hunt. Will she be able to break free and find food before winter sets in?” It’s available now in hardcover from MacMillan.

More adventures in Guadalajara at Confuror 2022.

Dogpatch Press - Mon 6 Mar 2023 - 10:00

My art of hosts and friends @gatunomx @MeteorZeroFive @lowemond @MZSLV

Here’s a followup to Confuror makes a crossroads for Latin American furries and international fandom. It’s worth extra time to see the city of Gudalajara, so put Confuror on top of any list of furry cons you should visit. Below are its churches, the 18th century Jalisco Government Palace, and The Immolation of Quetzalcoatl sculpture in Plaza Tapatia, which had a snake head too heavy to mount on top so it’s installed on the ground nearby.

Sights in Guadalajara

Guadalajara is sometimes called Mexico’s Silicon Valley. It’s their second most populated city, and the home of tequila and Mariachi and the biggest film fest and book fests in Latin America. I stayed on the northeast side of town in the home of a furry who works at the university. It was in the Tetlan neighborhood, a dense and poorer area. I woke up with the sounds of dogs, parrots, garage noises, music and elotes vendors, and went for a walk.

The houses are painted all colors, with rough brick fronts and lots of metal work. The ragged roof lines are topped with solar water tanks for hot water. Some of them have green courtyards behind gates, or cages for parrots who screech “Hola” when you walk by. The phone poles have burls of handbills taped around and on top of each other. The potholes expose cobbles and the traffic gets chaotic without crosswalks. There are a few separated bike lanes, but they’re not a very used or connected network so you might want to write your will before biking with traffic. Cars and buses pack the streets — the metro is good to ride but has limited reach. Trucks are stacked with blue garrafones of water (camion de agua). A house might get water delivery every few weeks for drinking, and use tap water just for shower or cleaning.

The main drag had panaderias, barberias, toy and clothes shops, and open taco places under tents serving 5 for $25 MXN (about a quarter each), with street dogs lounging around. I got a bag of pan dulces, which you pull off trays with tongs and hand to the cashier on a tray, and saw food to try like torta ahogada, a local sandwich style with carnitas drowned in spicy chili sauce.

The old city center was good for a tour with a carful of furries. We parked in a steep brutalist spiral of a garage, with an old shuttered elevator for valets that was just an open shaft with a vertical conveyor belt to stand on. The historic and colonial architecture reminded me of visiting Europe. The oldest building I saw was an archive from 1500-something, among opulent Catholic churches, plazas, fountains, market seller booths, and street art.

Money and costs

Another visitor described Mexico to me: it’s not necessarily all poor, but like much of Latin America there can be a big class division. It seemed like average wages can be pretty low and I saw a lot of semi-rough neighborhoods. Young Mexicans were grateful to have a con at all while talking about poverty and the quality of things.

Where I’m from in California has high cost of living, so I could afford to tip more on modest rideshare costs and cover even nicer restaurant bills for a group.

The @confuror dance after closing ceremony was canceled but I randomly ran into @StandishBear and Mez Doggo outside the hotel in
Guadalajara. On a whim I got us a car to an over the top mariachi bar. I love this pic with Mez ❤ pic.twitter.com/x7AMx77tJY

Too much food for 3 with drinks and apps and tip at a somewhat lavish place with a live mariachi band was only $67USD (a modest bill for 1 in the SF bay). 🔥 pic.twitter.com/tQHSF9TUfx

Day by day

Besides doing a city tour and staying at a local furry’s house, we went to Cirque du Soleil. This one had the Wheel of Death, and the show blew our minds. it was not the wheel of mild injury. Many of the performers were former Olympians. The incredible clowning included a big furry dog who popped out of one hatch in the stage, then a double immediately popped out another one like a cartoon.

For the first day of ConFuror, the opening ceremony had a live orchestra. I missed the sold-out happy hour and Drink & Draw, but played chess with a fursuiter in a tournament, and did the Animation meet with aspiring pros, students and fans. Uncle Kage did his main stage raconteur show. Mexican furs were grateful to have him fly in even when one shyly laughed that “Tio Cagar” means Uncle Shit, and they hoped he wouldn’t be offended.

After panels and running around in fursuit, I couldn’t find room parties, but they found me. While waiting for an elevator, Mexican furry Rex Shiba came up to say hi. He found out I was visiting from the US, so we had to hang out with his friend Cookie Fox. They knew a room to visit. There was no formal party so we went in quietly but soon had to vacate to another room. That also didn’t last so we ended up in a hallway.

Maybe 15 others sat out of sight, now well after midnight, trying to keep quiet and avoid the overvigilant hotel security 10 or 15 floors down. Rex Shiba helped me learn some Spanish words for furry parties: Des Madre – disaster (furries ruin everything) and Mala Copa – crazy drunk person doing stupid things. “La silencio con” got more and more fun until it couldn’t stay quiet and we were broken up.

Below: The first fursuiter I saw, fellow California fur @Sofbeak and a Mexican fur, and la silencio con in the hall.

WHOAH i love this art from @rex_shiba the amazing Mexican fur, I met him at @confuror with @cookie_fox23! pic.twitter.com/Nsv4KuawbJ

It was a night of Weiner Denial. In the fursuit lounge I met @Dirdwolf from Michigan. He heard I was hungry, but it was hard to find food in the hotel or leave in suit, so he generously came back with a box of hot dogs. When I went for the first bite, staff shut down the fursuit lounge. I packed up and hit the elevators, but Rex and Cookie stole me away for hours. By the time we were done I was so hungry that a hall corner beckoned me to sit and wolf them down like an animal. That was a long time to hold weiners before putting them in my mouth.

At 4:30 a.m. outside the hotel, it took about 7 tries to get a rideshare driver to cross town to my host house. His dashboard had a bobblehead dinosaur that nodded along like “good decisions were made.”

Saturday

I saw the international community panel and dealer’s den, and checked food outside the hotel. There was a popular 24 hour taco spot, seafood, and a great tiny cafe with gourmet sandwiches served by the owner. California fur @Velexian and Colorado fur @zeldstarro  were in the lobby and took my stranger invites for lunches. You can just ask people and have great chats.

Back at Confuror, I visited the small and sparse art gallery, then Floor Wars where fursuit dancers battled. My note from the dance is “Great deal of singing”.

Sunday

The Fursuit Fest took the place of a parade and had many photo shoots for different types of suiters. Here’s one from a Mexican suit maker.

Faltaron algunos que no llegaron a la foto, pero aun asi me encanta verlos juntos a todos 💕 pic.twitter.com/t7DRXNsGBE

The charity auction happened before the closing ceremony. It culminated in a $7,000 bid for a collaborative art mural made at the con. The last dance was disappointingly canceled so I rounded up several furs for a late night restaurant visit. Randomly picking what was open got us to highly rated Casa Bariachi and one of the best dinners I’ve ever had?!

The next day, the furries at our host house did a small art jam. @Lowemond, Mezdoggo, and @MeteorZeroFive were artists dealing at the con or taking commissions to make a living. Drawing helped smooth language barriers, and we made things to remember a fantastic trip that would only happen this way with furries.

The furry fandom has creative hobbies that revolve around cosplaying, creating fursuits, digital art, animation, paintings, and fursonas. The furry community continues to bond over their shared interests in art and animation.

Many people express their individuality and creativity by writing expansive stories as well. These hobbies bring together the furry community. However, the community has exclusively experienced negativity due to the prevalence of misconceptions regarding furries.

The furry fandom now communicates in private groups, discord servers, or links through other platforms. One such platform is the Furry Network. This online community-focused platform enables furries to share their artwork and other content for commission.

This website features a robust art and photo upload system, enabling users to create and share various art forms. Let us learn everything about the Furry network and how it has helped thousands of furries!

What Is Furry Network?

Furry Network, an online place for furries to share, promote, and purchase furry art, was created in 2015 by Varka and Bad Dragon. This site had several goals, such as providing the furries with modern art tools, reliable commission work, and a safe environment to share like-minded interests.

This welcoming network is an incredible platform for closet furries to become a part of the online furry community. Moreover, identity and representation are critical elements of personality in the furry fandom.

Fortunately, the Furry Network is one such platform that enables users to uniquely present their personas and characters. Its creative media is one of the primary gateways for furries to explore, understand, and share interests.

In addition to this, the Furry Network exclusively believes in community guidelines, making the platform a safe space for people to share and promote their creative work.

Furry Network is a safe space for furries from all over the globe to share all sorts of content. From writings and animations to digital art, fursuits, and creating fursonas, the Furry Network aimed to become a site where furries could effectively communicate and link with like-minded people.

In addition, the Furry Network promotes commission workers and helps artists earn decent money. Therefore, Furry Network has introduced some excellent tools that help artists effectively use their skills.

Their navigation and accessibility system is also simple, as it maximizes the chances of artists and commissioners finding each other.

Due to this streamlined community, it’s easier to share talent, skills, and creations. The commission marketplace tools also enable the team, artists, staff, and the community to build a better foundation.

This promotes the Furry Network’s idea of a strong community system. Here are various ways the site enables the community to connect and safeguards their rights.

"The artists had amazing response times and were constantly updating me on my piece" Clara Draw My Fursona Why Is Furry Network Controversial?

Furry Network has been a subject of controversy on various occasions. One of the most popular controversies around Furry Network was the allowance of erotic cub imagery on the website.

Many users reported the site. Then requested them to remove cub pornography. Other users reported that anthropomorphic cub pornography made them uncomfortable.

Consequently, voting was held in which 1389 users voted in favor of removing cub pornographic content while only 620 votes were against the thread.

There were several suggestions regarding the ban on cub pornography. Some other alternatives and additional bans included the following.

  • Banning exclusive anthropomorphic sexual content.
  • A ban on homosexuality and rape.
  • Adding a clause to the terms of service to protect users from censorship.

After the suggestions, Varka enacted the ban. Varka also thanked the people who spoke up about the posts and made changes to the terms of service and content criteria.

Furry Network then introduced a new acceptable upload policy that prohibits content containing minor characters in sexual situations which appear younger than 18 years of age.

Enactment of this ban made the Furry Network an even safer space for young-adult furries to explore new content and art forms.

How Did Furry Network Deal With The Controversies?

The core values of the Furry Network focus on forming a safe community for furries. Therefore, their primary goal was to consider feedback to build and run the site within community guidelines.

Furry Network appreciated the feedback and considered controversial decisions to avoid hurting users’ sentiments.

Moreover, they wanted to provide the furry fandom with a safe and reliable platform. Therefore, with proper reasoning, the Furry Network made sensible amendments to its content policy.

They also re-evaluated their content policies regarding underage furry characters as it promoted the idea of sexualizing minors.

Furry Network decided that excluding the content with cub pornography was a deal breaker, and it was in the best interest of the furry community to remove all content featuring underage furry characters in sexual situations.

We can conclude that Furry Network quite efficiently handled the controversies by being open to negative feedback and adapting to change. After all, these steps were vital for the furry community to be safe and successful.

Does Furry Network Help Furry Artists?

Furry Network enables artists to access configurable tools that allow them to be available for commission work. These artists can also close commissions if they are not available for work.

Their customers can also notify the artists if they’re interested in a piece. Moreover, the artists can simply email their customers to notify them about the availability of an artwork/product.

The product category on Furry Network also allows customers to check out new pages where they can see product examples. This gives them a better idea as to what they should expect.

In addition, Furry Network has an excellent payment method as it features an internal payment processor. The CCBill handles all the payments. Moreover, payment disputes are also resolved by the Furry Network to accommodate the clients.

Here are numerous offerings through which the Furry Network benefits commission artists and clients.

  • Users can browse, expand, and collect multimedia
  • Artists can create and promote their content
  • You can look into the site’s extensive collection of fiction writings
  • You can follow your favorite creators
  • The site allows you to safely buy & sell commissioned work

"My artist worked tirelessly on my reference sheet despite several complete revisions of the piece" Craig Draw My Fursona Why Should You Join Furry Network?

Joining the Furry Network is a straightforward way of linking with like-minded individuals who create, sell, and buy multimedia content. Becoming a part of this platform is the same as joining any other furry community, such as Discord servers but with one exception.

The exception is that platforms such as Twitter, Reddit, Instagram, or Facebook are exclusively social. In contrast, Furry Network features a business model for commission work.

But it also provides an excellent opportunity to interact with fellow furries and make new friends. However, the site’s primary goal is for furries to find new content and share their own if they wish to earn a commission.

What Makes a Furry Network Great for Posting Content?

Furry Network is an excellent platform for posting content due to its updated rules and regulations regarding content guidelines. Moreover, artists in the furry community can post their content in their gallery, which other users can ‘favorite.’

Besides this, Furry Network provides artists with a channel to showcase their talent and increases their exposure to earn a passive income. Various like-minded individuals can access similar content. They can buy, share, promote, and like the content of their choice.

In addition, writers can publish their extensive stories on the site. The best part about this commissioned marketplace is that it allows you to share various content, including the following.

  • Writing
  • Animation
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Digital art
  • Fursonas

Thus, Furry Network is a one-stop shop for all types of multimedia content. The marketplace has had recent updates, which also tackle numerous problems users face.

For example, it is easier to surf through the thousands of users to find new content creators on the site due to galleries. Moreover, you can keep fresh content on your homepage even if you do not follow many users.

If the people you follow aren’t active, your gallery will feature recently published posts from the last day to help populate your gallery. This keeps users hooked on new content.

Furry Network’s Big Plan

Furry Network is an extensive commissioned marketplace with a plan! This platform looks forward to resolving the biggest issue artists face. Commission fraud is one of the least tackled issues of artistically inclined fandoms.

But Furry Network aims to prevent commission fraud by preventing the artist from receiving money and deceiving the client.

They aim to implement this by working as a third party that handles money until the fulfillment of a purchase agreement.

Furry Network can receive money from the client by acting as an escrow service. When the artists complete the commission, Furry Network can pay them. This payment model has the capacity to reduce commissioned fraud.

However, the platform may need to deal with the client’s horror stories when they demand a refund even after receiving the artwork. But these steps make Furry Network one of the most trusted commissioned marketplaces for the community.

Due to the enactment of these steps, Furry Network has become a well-trusted site for artists and clients of the furry community.

Business Model

If you have attempted to commission your piece of furry art, you must have considered pricing it well. Furry art requires talent and creativity, as fursonas bear a close resemblance to furries.

This challenging art form is quite expensive, but that does not mean furry artists are always drowning in commission work. Some exceptional artists may get hundreds of requests, but that isn’t the case with most furry artists, as this artwork is quite expensive.

In such cases, commission fraud is quite prevalent, which may discourage artists from sharing and promoting their content.

To tackle this problem, Furry Network has formed an exclusive business model for the community. Thus, Furry Network’s commissioned marketplace features less of a social model and more of a business model, as the sole idea behind the platform was to enable artists to promote and share their furry content.

With time, the Furry Network has formed a large community. But this platform has successfully eradicated the fear of underpaid artists facing commission frauds.

In addition, the furry community focuses on individuality and self-representation, which allows them to create their fursonas.

Due to this, artists spend a lot of time and energy creating digital mascots. Furry Network provides such artists with a safe and reliable platform with easy multimedia integration. Moreover, the platform continuously seeks to build a robust commissioned system to prevent client abuse.

Bottomline

The catalog of platforms for furries has become saturated in recent years. But artsy furries continue to look for safer and more reliable platforms to showcase their digital art and media.

Even with a plethora of other platforms, furries continue to trust the Furry Network as their primary platform of choice when it comes to expressing art and individuality.

Besides the social model, this furry community site has numerous features that promote business and commission work amongst artists.

Overall, the Furry Network is a decent site with a relatively simple interface that allows easy navigation for all users looking to become an active part of the artsy furry fandom.

A Nonfurry Who Likes Furporn

Ask Papabear - Fri 3 Mar 2023 - 13:03
Dear Papabear,

Its a hard pill to swallow to say I use furporn because people who use furporn to fulfill their sexual needs more often than not are looked down upon. Anyway, I was exposed to furporn early on in life and found out that I liked it and use it normally. I've had sex and had no problem with “getting started” or my overall performance. It hasn’t “watered down” my attraction to real-life sexual acts or desires but enhanced in its own way. But I sat down today and asked myself why do I still use furporn and why do I still like it? I felt as though it was childish, so I looked at a normal porn video and some pictures and noticed it's all the same. I like furporn because it has diversity. Colors, races, styles (etc.).

My main question is, "What does this make me?" I wouldn’t consider myself a furry because I don't have any desire to partake in anything, being events, suits, and such. I simply just use furporn. I hope you are able to answer my question for me. Thank you for hearing me out and I hope I was able to bring a new perspective or anything of use to you and your journey.

Anonymous (age 20)

Dear Furiend,

Thank you for writing an honest letter that I believe will be helpful to many of my readers. Isn't it funny how true it is when you say that people into furporn are looked down upon (including in the furry fandom) and yet furporn and other "regular" porn proliferates throughout the Web, literature, movies, sex clubs, and on and on? Human beings are sexual creatures. This is natural. What is unnatural is how social (especially religious) institutions make sex anathema, sinful, a thing only for degenerates, something that should only be used for procreation, and you better not even masturbate lest you go blind and grow hair on the palms of your hands and cause the dinosaurs to go extinct (Family Guy joke).

Complete nonsense.

The elite and powerful in human society use guilt to control people into "behaving." The result of this is that a vast number of people have become neurotic about sex and many who try to repress their feelings later release their sexual tension in inappropriate, hurtful, violent, criminal, and truly sinful ways (i.e., e.g., rapists, pedophiles, spouse abusers, and priests molesting little boys or having sex with nuns).

The truth is that it is MUCH healthier to have an active, playful sex life. People who have satisfying sex lives are happier and more mentally and emotionally balanced. Sexual fantasy is a part of this. There are many good things about sexual fantasy, the main one being that it is a safe way to stimulate the libido. It also helps you run through your mind many things that you might like to try with your consensual partner. In fact, talking with a partner about sexual fantasies can help you strengthen bonds you might not have known you had. Now, one might have some very "out there" fantasies that you wouldn't try on anyone (a common one in the fandom is vore fantasies, for example). You shouldn't worry about these. As marriage and family therapist expert Steven Ing wrote in a Psychology Today article: "Just as fantasizing about being a world-class jewel thief doesn't mean you're going to become a thief, having sexual fantasies doesn’t mean you're going to act on them. Fantasizing is our brain's way of projecting a future scenario or trying ideas on for size. It's also a way of reliving a wonderful moment or deriving comfort or pleasure from an alternative reality."

And, of course, always keep in mind the Wiccan Rede: As long as you're not hurting anyone, do what you like. You certainly aren't hurting anyone by watching furporn. But it is also important to note the dangers of porn addiction. Judging by your letter, you are already aware that too much porn viewing can numb the senses and actually lessen one's real sexual activity, and you assert that your own libido has not been "watered down." Good for you :-)  Further, you note that furporn is really no weirder than other porn on the internet. So, furry fantasies are just another type of imaginative RP of the mind.

In short, you have nothing to worry about. Pretty much all sexually active human beings indulge in some sort of fantasy, so you are totally normal. Yours just happens to be furporn. Big whoop. You seem very aware of all of this and, IMHO, you are quite smart and in tune with yourself. You're mentally and emotionally healthy. Lastly, just because you like furporn doesn't mean you're a furry. It's not like, "Ohmygerd! I watched anthro wolves having sex! Now I have to go buy a fursuit and attend a furry convention!" Relax. The Fur Police aren't gonna knock on your door for noncompliance.

Hope this helps. Remember, play safe and have fun! Thanks for writing!

Bear Hugs,
Papabear

FWG Monthly Newsletter March 2023

Furry Writers' Guild - Thu 2 Mar 2023 - 08:30

We can’t blame February for rushing by – it is the shortest month of the year, after all. But even so, we’re already here in March.

We’re well into furry award season now. The Ursa Major Awards are now open for voting. Please do take the few minutes to vote on these – they are the awards with the widest voting eligibility, so they are a great barometer for what is popular across the entire fandom.
Nominations for the Coyotl Awards are still open for FWG members until March 6th. Guild members, please make sure you’re submitting your nominations ahead of the voting period to come.
Nominations for the Leo Awards should now have closed. There is no voting for these awards. Instead, a judging panel will determine the winners of these categories.

Of course, the awards are not the only things of interest that happened during February.
In case you missed it, we announced a revamp of FWG membership profiles, encouraging all members to utilise their profiles better, to give links to works and to make it easier for readers to find out more information about the incredible talent our members have. This is in conjunction with a massive update to the Suggested Reading List. While this is still a work in progress, there has been plenty of responses already, and I’m really hopeful that these resources will prove much more beneficial in the future when we wish to highlight certain members.
If you are an FWG member but did not receive the email advising you of these changes, please get in contact with us through the guild email so that we can ensure you are not missed in this update.

The second announcement we had during February was the launch of our Patreon page. Through this, we hope to ensure the guild is able to cover its own costs, as well as taking on the costs of the Coyotl Awards, which have previously been taken on by the award chair. This could allow us to expand the impact of the awards, giving us more options in the future to make them bigger and better in all aspects.
We hope that our members will consider the Patreon page as a way to provide voluntary dues in the absence of any regular membership fees, and that readers can use it as a way to benefit furry writing as a whole. We are grateful for any support that is given, and in the future we will look to ways to reward that generosity with more tangible benefits.

March may not be quite so exciting in terms of announcements and updates, but behind the scenes we’re still working on a few more plans we hope to bring public before too long. And of course, the reading list and member profiles will continue to get updated over the next couple of weeks.

While you wait for all of that, why not check out some of the open submission calls?

Paw Anthology – Deadline May 1st
This Is Halloween – Deadline When Full
Furry Femdom Erotica – Deadline When Full
F/F No Erotic Anthology – Deadline When Full
Isekai Me! – Deadline When Full

We hope you’ll also check out the list of recent releases and upcoming books from our guild members.

Happy Howlidays, edited by Vincenzo Pasquarella. Released February 22nd 2023.

A Drop In The Motion (Paperback and Hardback), by Dwale. Released February 23rd 2023.

Rafts, by Utunu. Available for pre-order. Released March 16th 2023.

Don’t Ask Me If I’m Okay, by Jessica Kara (Jess E. Owen). Available for pre-order. Released May 16th 2023.

As always, if you have something to add to either of these lists, please let us know as there will always be something we miss!

Until next month, please keep up with our socials (Twitter isn’t dead yet!) and our chatrooms on Discord and Telegram for the latest updates and information. I hope you’ll also browse through the Reading List as it is updated.

Stay safe and happy writing!

It goes like this: “Goodbye Volcano High is a story about love, friendship, personal growth, acceptance, and the power of community in the face of disaster. (And dinosaurs!) Fang has just figured out what they want to do with their life, and now they’ve got to find out how to deal with the end of the world, be there for their loved ones, and follow through on their musical dreams before it’s too late.” Cartoon Brew has more information and a link to the new game trailer. Goodbye Volcano High is scheduled for release this June.

The Annie Award Winners for 2022

In-Fur-Nation - Mon 27 Feb 2023 - 23:55

This past Saturday the gala ceremony for the Annie Awards was held at UCLA in Southern California — the first time in three years the ceremony has been held live! The “Oscars of animation” are presented every year by ASIFA Hollywood (a division of the International Animated Film Society). This year, surprising no one at all, the stop-motion film Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio was the big winner of the night, winning in five categories including the top prize, Best Animated Feature. (Might be time to admit it — the film’s pretty much got a lock on the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at this point). Pinocchio also won in the Feature Film categories for Best Character Animation, Best Direction, Best Production Design, and Best Music. More surprising perhaps (at least to those of us who were behind the curve on the meme!) was this little film called Marcel, The Shell With Shoes On, which took home three Feature awards: Best Writing, Best Voice Acting (for Marcel’s voice and creator, Jenny Slate (Zootopia)), and the coveted Best Independent Feature. It was a complete sweep for these two though — some other (furry!) films of note were award-winners too. Over at Dreamworks, The Bad Guys got the award for Best Character Design, while Puss In Boots: The Last Wish was recognized with awards for Best Storyboarding and Best Editing. (All for features, of course.) Over in the TV categories, Dreamworks won Best TV For Children with their show Abominable and the Invisible City. Meanwhile, one of the big winners of the night was the animated video special The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, and The Horse, which took four Annies home to the U.K., including Best Special Production. It was not a great night for Disney, but there was one great furry note: Maurice LaMarche (Pinky and the Brain) won Best Voice Acting in TV for his portrayal of Mr. Big in Zootopia+. Cartoon Brew has a good article about the awards and a full list of the winners. (And now we get to remind you that voting for the Ursa Major Awards opens up this week!)

Problematic Feral Cancel Bait - The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride

Southpaws - Sun 26 Feb 2023 - 15:02

Fuzz, Savrin, and Ajax watched The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride off Disney+. Fuzz and Savrin hadn't seen this one either, but it was a big deal to Ajax, who also knows a lot about The Lion Guard, the spinoff series from 2015-2022, and how it fits into the story. Turns out Scar went to Lion Hell!

Happy at the Hedge

In-Fur-Nation - Fri 24 Feb 2023 - 23:50

Something we’ve missed out on, but we’re getting caught up thanks to Animation World Network: “Paper Owl Films’ Happy the Hoglet, an animated preschool series aimed at helping kids overcome negative feelings and make the most of positive emotions, was greenlit for a second season… Happy the Hoglet follows a baby hedgehog’s adventures with his friends as they explore their feelings. Each episode focuses on an adventure during which Happy learns to understand emotions, from feeling excited to ‘hangry’ or feeling like he just needs a quiet minute.” The show premiered in November of 2022, and more new episodes are due in 2024. Not certain where and how they’re being distributed in North America, but episodes are available to see on YouTube.
