Hallo! Brand new to the fandom ^.^

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 22:01

*totally not typing this twice cause I accidentally closed firefox

Hello! As the title says I am brand new to the furry fandom, and just felt like doing a quick little intro type post to start off with.

I'm a 16 year old guy living in Oregon of the U.S. and only just joined the furry fandom about a week ago, although I've known about it basically since I started using the internet (only 2009 but whatever). I've never held a grudge against furries, but, until recently, I never looked further into it. After doing so though, I found that the fandom caters to my interests a good amount. I haven't made up a fursona yet, as I've still been thinking, but I'm thinking of having it as a gryphon cause gryphons are pretty awesome.

So yeah, that was my little introduction post :)

New to the sub.

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 19:30

Helol Internet, TanuRaccoon here.

I just recently stumbled acrossed this subreddit and quickly grew tired of just lurking. So I decided to introduce myself. To start things off I've been in the fandom for a number of years. I just haven't been involved outside of pintrest and a little forum site that I'm barely active on. I'm from Northern California and live in a very small town, so I don't actually have any friends within the fandom. For a while I thought that was ok with me as I am very anti social and often felt there wouldn't be anything I could add to the conversation anyway.

Today that changes! So if you have any questions for me, ask away.

Fursona's with tattoos - odd/unrealistic?

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 18:49

Since joining the fandom a few months back, I've noticed plenty of fursona's that have a wide variety of tattoo's, and I think it just looks really strange on species that have fur. Scalie's on the other hand it feels more, I don't know, accurate?

What do you guys and girls feel about tattoo's on furries and scalies?

The Pull list 06/01/16

Marfed - Furry Comics - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 17:19

Howard the Duck #3 (Marvel) – Zdarsky’s second run of Howard comics definitely improves and builds upon excellent foundations and it wasn’t surprising that my one of my favourite series also had one of my favourite issues of the year by far. Finally Howard and Tara come to face to face (or more accurately Bill, face, muzzle and bill) with Shocket and Linda and I can’t wait to see the interactions between them as they try and shake off the annoying advances of The Wizard and the ever looming threat of The Collector. This title along with Squirrel Girl, which it will soon cross over with, always deliver the prefect mix of humour and heart. Once again the talented Mr Quinones is back to regular art duties after the wonderful single issue by guest artist Veronica Fish last month.

Doctor Strange #4 (Marvel) – Continuing a whole week gorging on All New All Different Marvel is issue four of the Bachalo and Aaron’s run on the Sorcerer Supreme. While last issue felt like somewhat of a re-tread of the first issue in terms of plot it’s still a series I’m enjoying. The slow burn of the whole science versus magic story that the duo have been building over the last three issues, with Strange discovering in the last issue that fellow Sorcerer’s are being killed along with places of magical power. Bachalo’s artwork is gorgeous, in particular the way he presents the astral planes and Strange’s unique view of New York City, teaming with mystical parasites. The washed out planes with splashes of colour are simply striking and hint at even greater artistic flourishes to come.

Rocket Racoon and Groot #1 (Marvel) – Spinning out of the pair’s excellent solo books the gung-ho raccoon and his monosyllabic companion are finally back together in one book, once again written by Skottie Young, also contributing covers for the series. The addition of new artist Filipe Andrade made me sceptical at first after seeing his one off issue from the last volume. The previous two volumes divided art duties between Young and Jake Parker, both of whom did a delightfully adorable Rocket!

It was the only issue I didn’t like, and for me the artwork seemed jarring against the other two artists more cutesy and cartoony take. While a great style in its own right it was just too serious and seemed out of sync with Young’s quick paced, witty script. However I’m big enough to admit when I’m wrong and Andrade seems to have tweaked and softened his style slightly for the new series bringing back in some of the cute. The preview pages have definitely renewed my interest in the title. I eagerly look forward to seeing the mix of his art and Young’s comical hijinks as this issue opens with the pair being mourned by their fellow Guardians!

The Vision #3 (Marvel) – King and Walta’s eerie look at the Vision and his new family continues to spiral out of control as they struggle to stick together as a ‘normal family’ despite the secrets that threaten to tear them apart. Truly the strangest and most gripping book that Marvel are putting out at the moment, even with the post-secret wars shake up putting the Vision in suburbia to explore humanity and normality is really bold and it completely pays off. Despite the title, the standout character of this series for me is Virginia. While all this is going on she battles with her own identity and place in the world. Haunting and shocking in equal measures.

Casual Confursation #4

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 16:59

Hey Fellow Furs! Welcome to the thread series where we talk about the "normal" things in our lives with a uniquely furry twist. Everyone here has different interests and differing levels of activity within the fandom, and that provides a really interesting setting for discussion. We're an overwhelmingly receptive community, and we have a lot to share that often doesn't get discussed here in the sub, so take this as an opportunity to do so! Don't let two people have all the fun - if you have an interest in their conversation hop right in - it's a fun and easy way to learn about new people and interests.

Answer as yourself or your fursona - just keep in mind both the rules of reddit and the sub - and above all else be casual! Be willing to discuss and learn about others or about new topics - whatever they may be.

Please remember that this thread should be driven by you, the members of the community! Do not feel restricted by just what is being discussed - if you want to talk about something - shout it out!

For this thread, the icebreakers are:

  • College students/grads - what is your field of study and what can you share with us? Anything particularly interesting you have a passion for? Any favorite aspect of your educational experience?

  • Is there a language in particular you have a passion for and want to learn? Does it sound just so cool you need to understand it - or does it have a special impact in your life? Perhaps someone in the sub can give you a few pointers!

  • How did you choose your fursona? Is there a meaning to it besides just fun and creativity?

  • For those who can remember/recognize each other's flairs and sonas - and boy will this get interesting - who on this sub do you think has a creative/amazing fursona? Give em some love and let them know.

  • Is there somewhere around the world you really just need to visit once in your life? Culture is just amazing or the experience is something you want to have? See if there is anyone on this sub who happens to be from around your dream destination!

New Furry Here, ask me anything you desire!

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 16:34

Alright, so I accidentally deleted my last post within the last few hours so i'm posting it again so I can get questions as I love questions. If you saw the post I had last night, I apologize if this is annoying to see it again, forgive me!

So I am a 17 year old furry and from the United States. I have a sona who is a puma/cougar/mountain lion or whatever you wanna call it. I have been a furry since about 2011/12ish and been on FA for a couple years now though wanna join this reddit.

This is actually my secondary account which I am calling my furry account. I have a main account on reddit that I have had since 2012 and is really well known, specifically on one subreddit. However because it is really well known and I post a lot of opinonative/informative stuff on said subreddit, I chose not to use that account to use this reddit but a secondary account. If someone were to somehow figure out my main account, feel free to ask/post it, I wouldn't really care TBH.

I am very extrovert and love talking and being social and being around people. I love meeting new people from all over in person and online. Feel free to ask me anything you like and as many quesiton as you like, my favorite thing is being asked questions about anything

New Furry, just wanted to say hello.

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 16:00

Hello all, just wanted to drop in and say hello, been lurking for a while and finally decided to make an account.

So am 18-year old guy and my Soma is a Fox.

Just a classic fox, White/Orange body, with black paws, black ears and white tipped tail with a black ring. Also blue eyes, his name is Sly.

That's all, I really like this fandom and one day I would like to go to a fur con.

If you're into horror-comedy like Evil Dead, I wrote a popular serial about a possessed fursuit on /r/NoSleep.

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 15:57

Hi there, folks! I used to be somewhat heavy into the furry scene--if you ever hung out on FurryMUCK, I was Harper the gryphon. I would attend Owlhaven Story Night and recite my work, sometimes I hung out in the WCOTP. I don't go there much anymore, but I still have ♥️ for the fandom and the art, and I keep in touch with all my fur friends.

Last month I wrote a story for /r/NoSleep called The Fear Suit and it's about a group of friends who buy a bear fursuit on Craigslist that turns out to be possessed. It was pretty well-received:

  • "I'm really eager for part 2. This is an awesomely funny story, for it being creepy."

  • "this made me feel claustrophobic just reading it. really well written."

  • "Wow. I love this. Its the perfect mix of suspense and humor! I'm on edge hoping you don't murder your friend, but still laughing at the ass handle/tail guy!"

  • "This series is so good! Good luck, OP!"

  • "Fuck, what a great end to this series! One of my favourites I've encountered so far on here. Keep writing, friend. You are very talented."

Some furs didn't like having to read it on the website, though, so I converted it to a Kindle novella. It's currently 99¢, but if enough people price-match it, it'll go perma-free.

Anyway! I hope you dig it. If you're not into Kindle-reading and you just go to the NoSleep post, feel free to leave me an upvote if you enjoyed it.

Can I ramble a bit about how much I love this fandom?

Furry Reddit - Wed 6 Jan 2016 - 15:41

Approx. 6 years ago I learned about this fandom, and read my first furry comic, Circles. It was funny, thoughtful, and allowed me to see different perspectives I otherwise wouldn't have considered. The more I learned about the fandom that spawned this book, the more I liked it. I've never seen such a large variety of people and their stories that coexisted so well together.

At the time, I wasn't unhappy with my life - but I was in kind of a slump with my artwork. So much diversity and creativity in one place got me excited to draw again. And when I shared these drawings with the furry fandom, the encouragement received motivated me to start regularly updating a comic series online. Feedback from other furry artists helped me focus and push towards improving my work. Support from furry fans helped turned making art and comics into a source of income for my family. This past year, I finished my first graphic novel, and now it's being sold by the same folks who published Circles.

I've dreamed of turning comics into a career since I was a kid. Thanks to this fandom and all of you, it's becoming a reality. You fluffy, feathered, scaled diamonds are all fantastic - I'm so happy I discovered you, thanks for making a place for me here!
