Furry Worries Thread - Week Five (update)

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 13:45

Good day furs, I would like to start off this thread by stating a quick addendum that I feel needs to be made. I realize that many people may not necessarily want advice when talking about what is bothering them, and so I would like to make some clarification.

  • If you are not looking for advice and would just like to receive emotional support or simply get something off of your chest, you are more than welcome to state so. After all, a shoulder to lean can be a great remedy.

Additionally, I want to thank everyone who participated in the thread last week. You all stepped up the the plate, and I was very happy to return and see that as many people as possible were helped and that the thread ran smoothly.

And as always, if anyone has any ideas on how this thread could be improved upon, please do not hesitate to send me a PM. I would love to make this the best place it can be.

This is a thread dedicated to helping other furries who may be experiencing problems and are looking for somebody to talk to.

Users have sometimes stated that it is difficult to express their sorrows or misfortunes on this sub because they do not want to feel burdensome or unwelcome in what is normally a very happy-go-lucky environment. And so, this thread is to encourage furs to open up with their issues and to seek help from others.

If grief has been on your mind or something has been bothering you as of late, big or small, please leave a comment for myself and others to see if we can be of any help, or at least lend a sympathetic ear. Alternatively, if you feel pretty nice about yourself today, don't be afraid to browse any existing comments and see if you can make somebody's day a little better. Maybe you have experience with what that person might be dealing with. Or perhaps you just want to let them know that they have a person to talk to.

However, here are the principles from last week that should be considered:

  • I am aware that unfortunately, misfortune does not have a curfew. This thread is not in any way meant to contain negative emotion on the sub, but is meant to be a convenient place for others to open up and find somebody to talk to. If you experience strife at any other time during the week, do not feel like you must wait until Saturday to state it. Please feel free to make your own post.

  • This thread is not meant to replace professional help. If you feel that you could have depression or any other similar psychological condition, you are still invited to post, but it is highly recommended that you seek a form of professional help as well.

  • Suffering is not a competition. Do not feel like your issues are too slight, or insignificant to post. You are invited to express your problems no matter their scale. Your sadness is just as valid as any others.

  • Last but certainly not least, if you are responding to a comment do your best to be as thorough and insightful as possible. Do not just comment and forget about the other person afterward. While little pick-me-ups can help, do your best to be there for the other person. Encourage discussion and do not be afraid to have more in depth conversations. The comment section is always fine, but if either of you feel that you must talk in a more private setting, do not be afraid to use PM or Skype.

To any of you who are shy

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 10:51

If you are someone who is rather shy by nature, does it upset you if someone else were to try and make small talk with you? Would someone else starting a conversation be welcome to you?

I consider myself highly sociable and will talk to pretty much anybody I happen to be standing next to. I can, of course, discern when someone might be a bit bashful. Sometimes I will try and give us a little conversation, other times I will observe silence. Since it is rather hard for me to think through a potentially socially anxious perspective, I am hoping that, with some insight, I could better see what is going on in someone else's mind. It will also aid me at work, somewhat.

I understand that this matter is different among all people. Thank you.

A retrospective on FARR in 2015

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 06:26

It's been almost a month since the last one, and I've (eventually) been trying to gather up all the art created though the Furry Art Request Roulette into one place (thanks again to /u/Weonix for giving me the idea) to make things generally easier... which meant painstakingly checking through the submission history of everyone who signed up as an artist. The most discouraging fact I realised is that there was (as far as I can tell) around 150 requests that never got fulfilled. Seeing as I found a total of 158 pieces of artwork from last year - having only ~50% of requests completed is something of an unmitigated disaster that desperately needs worked on.

So, the things that I feel I need to change if the FARR is going to continue in 2016 is the following:

  • New submission forms - The old ones are... well... old, and the questions asked need updated. (Not to mention that the sheets of results are a mess and I'd rather not have to look at them ever again and just start fresh with a better format.)
  • Be more picky about the artists who sign up - I might be assuming the worst here, but having artists who don't complete requests makes the whole idea of the FARR fall apart. The event is only possible because of the artists who volunteer time and effort to it. (This doesn't mean the artists have to be especially good - just that they are willing.)
  • Get more feedback - Big one here. This isn't just feedback about FARR itself, but also getting feedback on artists' progress and if there's any lack of communication between pairings. I'll probably ask artists and requesters to add comments to a FARR post, just so I know at the very least they've seen the post and tried to contact each other.
  • Make it easier for people to find information - Currently, the only way to find info is to manually search for it on the subreddit, where all the FARR posts are split up and there's bits and pieces everywhere, including a "master post" which is useful, but no easier to find. My plan is to make a (few) wiki page(s) that can be constantly kept up to date and act as a centralised information hub.
  • Probably asking for help managing it - Kind of obvious, really. Keeping track of everything isn't easy, but adding more people won't help if I keep information in my head or inbox. This one's a "wait and see if I need it".
  • Do more in response to missing artists/requesters - This is related to the "more feedback" point. Whenever a pairing doesn't result in art, something is going to need fixed or someone is going to need reassigned, and this should be done promptly. This is something I dropped the ball on last year and will strongly endeavour to do better at this year.

I'm currently aiming to have the new forms set up to be released on Wednesday the 20th of January, with the first FARR of the year going live on Feb. 4th. I still plan to have it every fortnight, but obviously changing the day from Friday to Wednesday.

Here's hoping that this year will be a whole lot better than the last, and thanks again to all of the participating artists for making this possible.

Furry server :D

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 03:49

So I work at a movie theater/restaurant, we get to dress up for any movies we want as long as well it is appropriate. I don't think dressing as Dr.Frankenfurter would be taken so well lol. Zootopia is coming out soon and I am so serving people as a furry :D This is going to be funnnnnnn! I'll take some photos of my outfit, won't be a full suit for obvious reasons xD

Am I a furry?

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 00:40

I've been dealing with this question for a while, ever since I found some yiff online. Ever since then I have been into it (the yiff I mean), but the idea of fursonas and fursuits isn't really my thing. I do like the art (even non-yiff stuff), and so I was wondering if I was a furry.

I understand that it's up to me, but I don't know if I have a clear grasp on what it means to be a furry. I'm not averse to joining, although I don't really understand (outside of the yiff world) what it means to be one.

Edit: thanks for the great responses. I guess I am a furry, thanks for helping me understand :D

Why are you guys wearing a fursuit?

Furry Reddit - Sat 16 Jan 2016 - 00:22

Hi everyone. I'm not a part of the furry fandom, although I really like it, and I was wondering... Why do some of the people here like to wear fursuits? What is so appealing about them? Also, are the "fursuiters" a huge part of the community? Or a small part? I'm not here to make fun of anyone, I'm just a curious redditor who wants to listen to other redditors!

EDIT: Thanks everyone for responding! I think I got it. Cosplay, but you get to be your own 'sona (or you can buy one for- oh my god $300. That's... A lot.). Also, despite some hate I have seen for this community, you are really welcoming. I hope you are all proud of your awesome community!
