Ursa Major Nominations Open!
Here we are in a new year, and once again it’s time for all the Furry Fans out there to nominate their favorite movies, books, comics, TV shows and more from the previous year for the annual Ursa Major Awards — Furry Fandom’s answer to the Hugo Awards ™ from Science Fiction Fandom, the Anthony Awards from Mystery Fandom, and so forth. In other words, these are the people’s choice awards, where the fans themselves get to pick out the best from all the material released in the previous year — in this case, January to December, 2010. Last year, more than 1,000 fans around the world voted on the best anthropomorphic media from 2009, and the Ursa Majors hope to top that record this year. Get involved! Visit the Ursa Major Awards web site to find out about how to nominate your favorites. Don’t remember all the great movies, books, video games, art, or whatever that came out in 2010? Fear not! The Ursa Major web site provides a handy Recommended Reading and Viewing List to help jog your memory. (Just keep in mind: Things don’t have to be on the Rec List to be nominated. It’s just there to help you think of things). Nominations are open now in each of 10 categories, and they close at the end of February. Then the actual voting will begin in March. The awards themselves will be handed out at a lucky Furry Fandom convention this summer.

Lugaru faces competition from itself on App Store
Author: GreenReaper
Developers of rabbit-based beat-em-up Lugaru HD are battling to get an unauthorized copy removed from the Apple App Store.
iCoder is offering the game for just $ 1.99. The official verison sells for $ 9.99. [iDuck/Slashdot]
Gaming blog Kotaku reports that Apple are “looking into what happened”, and also hosts a quote from iCoder saying that they “have every legal right to market and sell the software”.
The game’s code was released under the GPL last May while developers focussed on their new game, Overgrowth; however, for-profit distribution of the game’s assets was not authorized.

The first furry camping-style event in Brazil, held near São Paulo, SP since 2008, sees a new high in attendance this year, almost reaching the local infrastructure limits, one month before the event.
Considering the pending subscriptions just awaiting payments, 46 furs will get together for a big camping time, with outdoor activities (such lake swimming, melee, water balloon football), fire camp, party and sleep in tents.
While this number seems small, getting all these furries together is a big step for such a young and still sparse fandom that we see in Brazil.
Abando brought new activities inspired on furry camping on North America such as Camp Feral!, and for the first time a conbook will be distributed to all campers, along with t-shirt and mug. Also, Abando starts to attract the international attention; Among this 46, one Canadian is joining the party, becoming the first camper from abroad attending a Brazilian con.
The numbers are exciting, but at this March 5th, the organization will be challenged at the highest level to provide a smooth and breathtaking event to all campers, to forge the “Brazilian Experience” (as they call on their website), an unforgettable “badge” that furs in the world want to have in the near future.
Rogue coder’s attack takes F-List down
Author: GreenReaper
Furry roleplaying description site F-List is down after an attack from a disgruntled developer.
While the developer’s SSH access had been removed, he regained access through a backdoor. The coder gave all users administrative rights, including access to email addresses and IP logs.
In a maintenance notice, F-List founder Hexxy urged calm:
F-List will be fine. The only interest we have is in bringing the site back up, and ensuring everything is secure. A former coder uses his access to F-List’s servers to mess things up. No permanent damage has been done, but things are a little emotional right now. Don’t do anything stupid, that doesn’t help anyone, it just creates more damage.
Repairs to the site are expected to take at least two days, but a temporary copy is available.

Pretty much what the title says. I see tons and tons of anthro/furry art, but I have yet to see any cg that doesn't make my skin crawl. Is this a one medium fandom, or is it just a case of CG 'fur' has a loooong way to go. (Or rather, the learning curve/available options aren't quite there yet)

Hats Off To Them
Among the many strange, strange live-action TV series brought into the world by the brother team of Sid and Marty Kroft, certainly one of the stranger was a 1973 show called Lidsville. For those not from that era, or who might have forgotten it (or thought it was a funky dream brought on by bad pizza): A young boy named Mark (played by Butch Patrick, better known as Eddie Munster on The Munsters) visits an amusement park and winds up falling into an enchanted magician’s hat (don’t ask) where he plummets into a land of living, walking, talking hats! He also meets a male genie (played by a woman) and an evil magician played by a very loud Charles Nelson Reilly. Told you it was strange. Well, now comes the word that Conrad Vernon (director of Monsters vs. Aliens) will be directing a new animated Lidsville feature for Dreamworks animation. Cartoon Brew has excerpts of an interview that the New York Times did with Conrad about the project. No word yet on a release date. They’re keeping it under their hats. [Sorry...]

Creators of "My Strange Addiction" Casting for more Furries
If you have altered your appearance to look like an animal, exhibit transhuman behavior, or participate in furry fandom, we want to hear from you.

Creators of “My Strange Addiction” Casting for more Furries
20West TV, Creators of TLC’s “My Strange Addiction” is again casting for Furries.
Do you wish you were an animal? Are you more comfortable wearing a fursuit, acting like a dog, or getting tattoos to look like a lizard? If you have altered your appearance to look like an animal, exhibit transhuman behavior, or participate in furry fandom, we want to hear from you.
A reality TV production company is casting for people who have gone to extreme measures to create an alternate identity to appear in an upcoming series. This non-exploitative program will share compelling personal stories. Each half-hour episode will profile two individuals who feel more comfortable living out animal-based fantasies or personas – including dogs, foxes, and lizards or even vampires and werewolves.
To be considered, or for more information about this production, please send your name, age, city, and a current photo to info@20west.tv. Please provide a brief description of your animal tendencies and behaviors and how it has impacted your life.
The ad was seen on Craigslist San Fransisco here.
Thanks to Tenza Aohane (@the10za) for the heads up!
Edit: Looking at the description listed, this may be a show highlighting Furries, Weres, Vampires and transhumanists. Looking at the shows they currently have in production, this would be something new. What worries me is the term “non-exploitative” being used in the text.
Please posts opinions, rants and the like below.

I am one of several co-administrators of SoFurry, and our site is rapidly approaching the beta release of 2.0. I understand that some of our members are frustrated by the lack of usability and convenience with our current layout, and -- as a member -- I can relate to people's concerns and gripes about the site.
I want to make sure that when SoFurry 2.0 rolls around, we get things right -- and so far, we've made tremendous progress. However, before we launch our open beta, I want your feedback regarding how we can improve the site. Please be as detailed as possible and upvote any preexisting comments that personally appeal to you.
If you are NOT a member of SoFurry, please tell me what kind of incentive would have you consider registering with us.
If you have any questions or comments about SoFurry, I can answer those!
TL;DR - I work for SoFurry, and I appreciate any input you can provide!
UPDATE (10:37 PM PST): I'm really happy that people are contributing to the discussion. FYI: SoFurry has retained the art and stories from Yiffstar, but because we have a content filtering system, you will likely not see a lot of it unless you register and modify your settings to see adult and extreme submissions.
UPDATE (02/3 11:23 AM PST): Toumal, the mastermind behind SoFurry, is checking out this article! Thank you, guys, for your excellent feedback. Keep it coming!
