It looks like the Pacific Northwest, and Seattle in particular is getting a lot of furry attention these days.  In the past few months, we’ve featured a fursuit maker based in the area, a new t-shirt company is in the area, the “Let’s Pretend We’re Bunny Rabbits” is based there and Rain Furrest is based there, and now, FurTheRecord…

Fur The Record is a Seattle based event production company specializing (but not limited to) electronic music events.

The company was founded by veteran Seattle rave/club DJ and event promoter, Tigon. Tigon began spinning records it his home in 2003 after 3 years in the electronic music scene. He played his first gig out in 2005 in San Diego and upon his return to Seattle in 2007, began working with one of Seattle’s premiere event production companies. With that company throwing less events and focusing more on being a record label, in 2009, Tigon formed Nu Breed Entertainment (http://nubreed.us) and started down his own path.

After working his second consecutive year as the assistant mainstage events manager for Seattle’s Sakruacon (http://sakuracon.org) Tigon discovered the furry fandom, which was a natural fit (see Tigon’s biography at: http://facebook.com/tigonfur)

Having run a weekly club night for nearly 2 years and having had significant role in the production of close to 50 events some of which pulled 2000-2800 people, Tigon has recently grown tired of the traditional rave scene as he feels the newer generation has grown rude and unappreciative.

In early 2011, after taking up post as the Dance Coordinator for both RainFurrest and FurtherConfusion, Tigon identified a growing demand in the furry fandom. That of a vibrant, amd thriving, nightlife. And in April of 2011, Fur The Record was officially born as Tigon threw “Get Rammed: An Aries Birthday Celebration” for his mate, and several other of their aries born fur friends. The invite only event was held at a small local venue in the SODO district of Seattle. Furs from as far as Florida flew themselves in for this little birthday bash and the tiny venue was packed to the gills as over 100 attendees decended upon it. Whether it be sponsoring the dances at a convention, or putting on their own productions, Fur The Record is focused on bringing a new level of production value to electronic music events within the fandom. With an already impressive roster of furry DJs and fursuit dancers, and a viral grassroots approach to promotion Fur The Record is intent on proving that nightlife and dance type events are one of the main draws in the fandom, and should not bee seen as an after thought.

Animal lovers animated characters celebrating in the U.S. city- Pittsburgh / Pennsylvania - Reuters

Gathered thousands of animal lovers of the famous characters in animated films in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to participate in the annual opening of their exhibition, which is known as (Ontherokon) (Anthrocon) and some of them wore a fashion favorite personalities.

The organizers of this exhibition, which opened on Friday, it includes works of art and sell Comics, dances and lessons in the art of moving the brides and discussions about the art of storytelling using the sounds.

And rode many of the pioneers of the exhibition Veola for themselves, and others wore full fashion favorite animal personalities that appear in the animation has been specifically designed them dress up the cost per thousands of dollars.

The Carl Georjensen one of the pioneers of the show, wearing the uniforms of the fur of the animal characters is rooted in his love of the old Looney Tunes characters famous, "I am interested in animation and fun, not one of us likes to watch cartoons?"

Said John Cole, one of the organizers, said he expected that this year's exhibition attracted nearly five thousand people, this will be the largest gathering of lovers of animal characters in animation since the start of the exhibition 14 years ago in Albany, New York.

In Yeaka’s book “Stitches,” there is a place known as Angel’s Institution which lies in a land known as Riizaed. The inhabitants of this land are known simply as Rii, a person with animal characteristics (or “Signs) such as a tail or wings – perhaps also known as a MewMew in popular culture. Angel’s Institution is the primary schooling for all Rii – they are responsible for shaping the minds and futures of each of their students. Encircling the entire land of Riizaed is a giant wall that is nearly possible to see over. The purpose of the “Walls” are to protect the Rii from the lesser beings known as Humans and Terri – humans with pointed ears and no Signs.

For young Lor and her brother Jak, life inside Angel’s is blissfully simple; wake up, attend class, go to bed, repeat. Both Lor and Jak have the same Signs, tabby cat ears and a tabby cat tail. Being second-year students, however, proves much less enjoyable. Forced to endure ridicule from older students and perform exhausting physical tasks, Lor finds herself secretly resenting Angel’s system of operation. Of course, Lor would never think such thoughts or vocalize any disapproval – such things are not tolerated at Angel’s and would result in detention. One day, Jak reveals to Lor that he has met a “Visitor” to the Institution. Lor is shocked to find out how many rules Jak broke yet even more astonished at the fact that an outsider was present in Angel’s. After all, the Walls are impenetrable and no one from the outside could enter – that is what she has been repeatedly told after all. Eventually, Lor discovers this mysterious outsider first-hand. Bumping into the kind and gentle Niki the Terri, Lor’s world is turned upside down and her whole world is changed forever.

I originally found this book when I was stumbling around the Kindle store looking for furry themed books. What originally struck my interest was the title itself. After reading this novel, I find the title extremely fitting. Lor’s world is held together by threads, or stitches if you would, that have been woven into her mind by her teachers and lifestyle. As each stitch begins to unravel, and each lie begins to surface, more and more of Lor’s understanding is plunged into confusion; until finally the whole string is ripped away in a dramatic conclusion. Yeaka does a fantastic job in mixing the dystopian world with the imagination and wonder of adolescence. Things previously unknown and unexperienced to Lor begin to appear and, much to her apparent apprehension, she tentatively begins to explore them.

This book is a fairly easy read, containing simple and understandable dialog enriched with hidden meanings. The characters are relatable with their unrestrained imagination, silly behavior, and general confusion with the world around them. Viewing the world around them as children adds a simplistic touch to this story that I have seen in little in other works of literature. I was a tad confused at the start of the story, but my confusion was quickly dispelled as the book started to pick up its pace. The books construction is streamlined, although the dialog tends to venture off on its own after a while. Certainly not as wordy as other books, but it has its moments.

This book contains many classic elements of dystopian fiction. Some of which include: the tight-fisted control of Orwell’s “1984,” the unknown world outside of their own much like Huxley’s “Brave New World,” and the mystery of Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451.”

All in all, this book is delightful and easy. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good chapter book. You can purchase this book in paperback format from Amazon or digitally from the Kindle Store. Both run at around $10.00.

Jose Fonollosa is a well-known comic book illustrator in Spain. For the past few year’s he’s also been working on an on-line black & white comic strip known simply as Meow, which follows that adventures of two domestic cats and their harried human companions. Cat fans, you can follow the strip at Mr. Fonollosa’s blogspot site. Meanwhile, Meow is being introduced to English-speaking audiences in a new hardcover collection from Kettledrum publishing, which is coming this August. You can order it at Westfield Comics, among other places.

This second novel in Wizards of the Coast’s “Gamma World” series is considerably Furrier than the first. As before, the setting is 150 years after a Hadron Collider catastrophe has destroyed civilization, creating a world in which “the survivors of some mythical future disaster must contend with radioactive wastes, ravaged cities, and rampant lawlessness. Against a nuclear backdrop, heroic scavengers search crumbled ruins for lost artifacts while battling mutants and other perils.”

“Red Sails in the Fallout” is not just anthropomorphic, it is flamboyantly and bizarrely Furry.

Found this on the net and wanted to share with FNN’s readers.  This is from a review of the recent NKOTBSB (New Kids On The Block/Back Street Boys) revival concert tour.

This made me laugh:

In the pre-show, a number of the guys had their solo videos playing. All pretty solid. I was pleasantly surprised. The strangest one was A.J. McLean’s video, where he is apparently admitting to the world that he is into the Furry life-style. Who am I to judge? I felt like I knew the message of that video because I spend way too much time learning about the weird side of life via the interwebs (much of which I wish I could unsee). “So A.J. McLean is a Furry. I learned something new and now I feel justified for having gone,” i thought smugly to myself. I do wonder if he was being funny with that video or what the actual deal was.

During an exclusive interview with Collider to promote the TV series, Jason Gann, who co-created and starred in the Australian series, and who is also co-executive producer on the American version, talked about how the concept for Wilfred started as a conversation that turned into a short film and then become a television show, being convinced to put the Wilfred suit back on, getting the opportunity to expand the world by doing almost as many episodes in Season 1 as the Australian series had in its entirety, how much fun he’s had working with Elijah Wood, a rather funny run-in he had with two Australian teenagers while he was shooting in costume in Venice, and how he’d also like to branch out and do some drama work as well. “Sooner Dead” is the first novel (of two so far) based on Dungeons & Dragons spinoff “Gamma World”.

Mel Odom is a veteran writer of authorized-series melodramatic paperback novels who, probably not coincidentally, lives in Oklahoma, “the Sooner State”.

Don’t look for any deep characterization or character development, just non-stop action. The mutants include a lot of talking humanoid animals, which is how this novel qualifies as Furry.
